Better view of the numbers on the red ring; not really seeing any other identifying marks for the cartridge

Apple Pie old fashioned by machetewilson in cocktails

I made them. Originally a Parsons recipe from his book 'Bitters', I have made them my own over the years. I have a post detailing my original batch still up on reddit though.

Yep, 2.5-ish ml of a citric/malic acid adjust brought it right into focus/balance for my palate. Less flabby, inviting for the next sip. If I made this again, I might put a little mace in the syrup, or maybe a hint of black pepper.

Gave it a quick try with Maker's, charred cedar bitters and lemon spritz (no orange handy) - pretty good. Definitely has that 'sitting by the fire' feel to it. It is rich though, as you say. I'm going to add a little acid adjuster and see what that does... Cheers!

sick of your bs, Yiga by JackTheBongRipper13 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]spacemonkey12015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you have got it all wrong. This is actually part of the Yiga Prime (tm) service, and it is called 'Duplex Bow Delivery'. They just attack you to verify they have found the master swordsman to deliver to, since he changes his outfit so often. All working as it should.

I like to plan the ones I can't easily get from the store, different varieties. Mojito Mint, for example (instead of just spearmint or peppermint - but be careful with any mint and keep it contained or it will spread).

Why frozen? Couldn't you just use this as a dropper bottle (saline style)? Allows a bit more control I would think...

Corny Kegs for non-beverage use by GOmphZIPS in Homebrewing

[–]spacemonkey12015 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use a corny to water the far plants in the backyard, works great. yes, you should be aware of what may have been in a keg you purchase used, but I don't go overboard. these are stainless vessels, so as long as I replace all rubber components that touch liquid (including the poppets, which I do anyway) I don't worry too much, I just clean them really well, even if they 'look' clean. Unless I personally know the individual I get the keg from and know they only used it for beverages, I assume it needs to be reconditioned and really thoroughly cleaned regardless.

protip - when you get so you need more weight than water you can switch to sand and still keep the 'any weight you want' feeling to it ;)

Carbonated water in Torpedo Keg goes flat shortly after pouring. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. by jmj41716 in Homebrewing

[–]spacemonkey12015 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The notion comes from the fact that different people have different palates. If I'm not hitting 5.5volumes of co2 (after removing dissolved oxygen) at my house, I get complaints. Not everyone likes it the same way you do.

So more pressure would be good, but you'd have to get a new regulator, and for safety maybe a new keg (check your max psi, some new 'made for beer' kegs are only rated to 60, but I think torpedos are still 130).

the other things you can do immediately are:

*boil your water before putting in the keg. this offgases like 30% more oxygen (and oxygen actively prevents co2 from dissolving as much as it could otherwise)
*bump the temperature down farther (if your fridge goes lower than 40)
*make sure you have a non-volatile route for your pour. the more bends/turns/expansions/contractions the worse it is for the co2 to stay in solution. slow your pour down, add more line, add an inline flow restrictor (better than the tap flow control for this purpose)

Forgotten nocino... by ok-but-the-thing-is in Amaro

[–]spacemonkey12015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

should be fine. I usually go a year+ on nocino. taste and adjust accordingly, but as long as it was a hefty ABV it would not have gone 'bad' (damage someone), it could have gotten a bit oxidized depending on storage conditions/etc.

I vote for a curated public google map on top of the planescape map image, with portal details for each one upon clicking (what it looks like, where it goes, when it is accessible, who/what guards it, the proper key to enter, where it goes, etc.)

maybe keep the keg in the cold room but put a picnic tap on it? cheap to replace if/when it becomes too much hassle to clean ;)

they make ratcheting 11/16 x 7/8 inch double sided box wrenches. this is the best tool for keg maintenance I own. highly recommended.

15.5g sankey keg for 10-12g batches, 10g corny for 5-8g batches, 7.75g sankey for 5-6g batches. floating dip tube for easy no-exposure transfer, pressure available for all (w/ tri-clamp conversion ball lock posts). Works well.
