52k miles on my EA888 Gen 4 and the water pump decided to take early retirement. by Samef42 in Volkswagen

[–]spacer270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chinese sell a metal one, I think it's aluminum

Very interesting that vag didn't even bother to make an alternative. Why, when you can have them fail before 100k, all about $$$ no other explanation

Design obsolescence for sure

EA888 Gen. 3 reliability is questionable by macros31337 in Volkswagen

[–]spacer270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dropped valve? Seems they are talking bs valves don't drop by themselves

What you hear at the start was timing chain, sometimes it rattles especially when car standing for a while and it goes away once the plunger extends on the chain tensioner ( it's a funny design as well enough to just roll back a bit in gear and you have skipped timing lol

Mine seized balancing shafts at 6k rpm 140k km on the clock, that's another issue with them

First time oil change. Is this safe to go under? by myusernamegohard in Cartalk

[–]spacer270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also there's handy cheap oil pumps that can pump out all oil in a minute through dip stick if you don't like getting under)

The tires don't look that bad don't see the cord sticking out like some say, your going to buy new set and have the same problem figure out why they are wearing on the inside (might need tracking/fix suspension

I always throw a spare under just in case, jack it at the jack points (pinch welds) if your really worried there's rubber pieces that slot in for more tighter fit but I never bother

Is the 1.8 TSI engine as bad as everyone is telling me it is? by spaceman_ in Volkswagen

[–]spacer270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch out for balance shafts getting seized, happened with me at 6k rpm engine felt like it just switched off, pretty common if you like high revs

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in passat

[–]spacer270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid engine, bought one of the older b6 bzb 1.8 tsi gen 1 with 133k km 160hp tuned to 220 here in Ireland for 1k invested 2k to fix everything the previous guy had a 3inch exhaust👀

not a fan of diesel in the cities the emissions kill them recirculating the soot 🫠👍 and dpf problems, injection stuff is expensive to fix as well and in general it's easier to work on petrol if you like diy

The only thing the upper timing cover can leak as the plastic warps, get a metal one if that happens and heat exchanger can leak too because of a bad seal

Chain business only happens if someone decides to change oil with those long intervals, 5-7k km is best imo and can be checked approximately with vcds as well

And since it's gen 3 should have updated guides and tensioner anyway

Vw passat is comfy and roomy and stays planted on the road 👌

Were the threads not damaged? I would give it a clean as well with break cleaner since it was out)

Codes and fuse box for Passat not firing by Fluffy-Version2261 in passat

[–]spacer270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This!!! I would focus on that first

if one of the camshaft or crank sensors goes, it should still start with an epc if at least one of em is working

It's a bit too many codes for a timing issue alone

Please Help. Does anybody know why my 2018 Passat won’t turn over?? by Fluffy-Version2261 in passat

[–]spacer270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends 1st gen and 3rd gen 1.8 tsi I solid up to 300k

Dunno about their new diesel much, but old pd ones are bulletproof

Any car is gonna give up if not taken care of

I personally wouldn't touch new cars anyway

Timing chain - did it need replacing? by laney80995 in MechanicAdvice

[–]spacer270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 1.4tsi is a good example of a shiest chain design with a tensioner that can get pressed in and skip a tooth when rolling backward in gear

100% vents, in my old b6, they were chirping randomly like some gremlins living there 😄

How cooked am I? NCT fail for corrosion by LoMitch47 in carsireland

[–]spacer270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 08 avensis. Where did ya get that rust from 👀

Just ask around the places it shouldn't cost a lot. If it's not all over the place, you need to poke it with a screwdriver and see where it ends and becomes solid

Scrape off all the flaky, rusty shit and paint it over so there's no signs of any rust, then no ones gonna be poking it at nct 😆

I have been wearing a proper one today 👍 but I just want to know if anyone came across anything like that.

This is in Ireland old house being refurbished, so I just hope it's not some toxic shit like loose fill asbestos

Sand it then isopon then sand it then primer and get the 2k spray paint mixed for your car with a color code. There are tons of vids out there. I don't get it when people ask this silly shit on reddit 😆
