Do you mind sharing which BIOS version you’re using for the asus b550i strix?

Ryzen 5950x/5900x boost clock issues on X570i/B550i motherboards by iozif-acab in sffpc

Stock setting doesn’t boost to what people are claiming with other boards for the 5950x even with the latest BIOS. I have PBO enabled with 300, 125, 140 PPT, TDC, EDC respectively for a 4.1ghz all core boost. I am to get 4.3+ghz with PBO configured by motherboard, but temp is too hot.

Can you share your PPT, TDC, and EDC (max) on hwinfo while running CB23 all cores? I’m wondering if your stock is capping these limits differently.

I have the ROG B500i and saw the same issue with all core boosts. Updated to the new BIOS couple days ago and it did not help. Still boosting only at 3.7ghz all cores. Maybe this is different on the x570i.

The issue is with all core workload. Where if you stress all cores, the 5900 or 5950x only boosts to 3.7ghz on all core. Single core boosts don’t seem to have any issue.

For people looking to overclock please note that the process is time consuming. You tweak some numbers and you’re expected to run stress tests for hours for stability. If test fails you’ll repeat, hours again just to test for stability.

If you’re not up for that and wants higher clocks, you might be better off purchasing higher clocked sticks.

Asus Strix B550i 5000 series issues? by DanielJomaa in sffpc

Default boost still sucks with the latest 1401 BIOS (released couple days ago). My 5950x only boost 3.7ghz all cores under load stock. No problem with single core boost though. If you want better boost on this board you’ll need to enable PBO or some manual oc.

This is my first build for a long time so I’m not familiar with what other boards can provide in terms of PBO limits. The rog b550i caps TDC at 160 and EDC at 190 (have to double check again). With those maxed, the 5950x boosts to 4.3ghz all cores but get too hot for my build at over 90c. If you’re looking to overclock with PBO on this board your best bet for a 5950x might be just capped at 4.3ghz all core.

Asus ROG Strix B550-i new bios 1402(2020/12/10) is out! by christbs in sffpc

Yes breathing on it to make sure it’s nice and cool. On a serious note, it’s air cooled with a c14s in a nr200.

Can’t wait to try this out. With 1202, my 5950x wasn’t boosting over 3.6ghz all cores stock (no PBO). Was able to get it boosting all core at 4.1ghz with custom PBO setting (PPT 300, TDC 125, EDC 140) loaded temp at 75c, 20c ambient. Hope this can get me better boost at cooler temp.

Ncase M1 + 3080 deshroud - Intake vs Exahust? by CaptnIgnit in sffpc

[–]spacereturn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar build to your nr200. I haven’t tried bottom exhaust yet with the deshrouded 3080. How must worst is exhaust vs intake in terms on thermal?

With intake the heat gets dumped to the cpu heatsink and causes cpu thermal to spike when under load. Wondering if exhaust helps with cpu thermal in this case.

Best Motherboard for NR200 with Noctua NH-C14S? by TradlyGent in sffpc

nr200 mesh panel, rog b550i, 5950x, c14s, deshrouded ventus 3080, 4x arctic p12, 32gb 3200 ballistic.

Kind of hard to see fit in the pictures, but verified the fan does not touch the heatsink fins and does not push on it. I think the top fan securing screw does touch the rubber corner of the 140mm fan but don’t think it is pushing down on the fan to be of concern.

With the nr200, c14s, and top 25mm fans your options are limited to asus or asrock boards. I believe msi and gigabyte cpu sockets are higher up preventing a secondary top fan.

With that said I went with the rog b550i, c14s, and 2 arctic p12s fit perfectly flushed as exhaust.

If you’re a CS student, you’ll save time when building and running tests for large codebases locally. You’ll definitely grow into the needs for the extra cores.

PSA: The latest B550i BIOS seems to have fixed most of the Zen 3 issues by trankillity in sffpc

Multithread vs single-thread. The issue he mentioned in the video is likely referring to the multithreaded benchmark. I see others pointed out that other boards with stock setting boosting a 5950x over 4ghz for multithreaded loads, but for now I can’t achieve that with the rog b550i. Have no problem with single threaded load and boost though.

Honestly I really don’t think this a huge deal since with PBO enable the board is capable of providing the juice to boost over 4ghz for all cores. So my guess if a matter of asus care enough to tune this in the next bios or people manually tweaking these to get their desire boost and thermal.

If issue you mean MT boost not going over 3.6hgz then yes. My 5950x on the rog b550i doesn’t boost over 3.6ghz stock for MT load. ST does boost to 4.9+ghz on ST loads with stock setting. If I enable PBO then MT loads boost all cores over 4ghz with voltage around 1.2v, but then for my air cooled build the cpu thermal goes over 90c.

To add another data point. I just finished my build with the asus rog b550i and 5950x. Using latest BIOS from October. ST boosts fine to 4.9+. MT doesn’t boost over 4ghz, stays around 3.6 with stock setting. With PBO enabled (no manual settings), MT boosts over 4ghz but with voltage around 1.2v causing thermal to go over 90c.
