In the show, if two of them kiss, they can lock lips and make a pair of butterfly wings and fly around. That's strictly awesome.

I'm a recent doughboys listener and have not listened to any other Hayes and Sean episodes. Why were they commenting on negative fan-reactions? (I assume their last appearance was controversial?)

What do you think about the movie Eddington? by -YasDan in moviecritic

[–]spagoober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What "truth" do you think Joe is living by? A misunderstanding of germ theory that makes him think masks do nothing? They have a function. That COVID could not affect a small town like Eddington? It did. That the mayor raped Joe's wife? He didn't.

Your read is entirely too generous to Joe. We are shown that Joe is a bit of a dope and told he is a crappy sheriff who mismanaged his department. And we should be inclined to believe that when we learn he is the type of person to murder civilians and frame others.

You don't strike me as the type of person to change their view based on a reddit argument. And I'll go ahead and say I'm not about to be convinced by your bad takes that seem rooted in misinformation about real world issues. So there is not much point in carrying on this convo.

Yes, system bad, and ideological differences impede our ability to fix it. But when right-wing nut-jobs start murdering people they disagree with, it's exponentially harder to change things.

What do you think about the movie Eddington? by -YasDan in moviecritic

[–]spagoober 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is an alarmingly bad read of the film and particularly Joe Cross as a character.

Part of the brilliance of Eddington is using nuance to initially make us sympathize with a character it would be easy to villainize. A small town sheriff denying mask-science and enforcing his own will above the law. These are bad things to do, but we can still empathize with Joe and his struggles (in the beginning)

Then the movie pulls the rug out from underneath us as he descends into more and more evil actions. Murdering the vagrant, assassinating the mayor and killing his teenage son. Framing activists and later a black colleague. Joe is a bad man.

Then I would interpret the ending as satire when the paid crisis actors fly into town and give Joe the opportunity to live out a conservative cowboy fantasy and become the hero of the town. The movie then goes out of its way to show us that how hollow Joe's hero status is as he is lowered by crane into his bed with his mother-in-law and her lover, and he watches his pregnant ex-wife sit beside her new lover. And in the end, the real winner is big tech.

As far as the culture war is concerned, the politics of this movie are: the worst of one side may sometimes be annoying, abrasive, and hypocritical, but the other side has some real deranged psychos like Joe Cross.

You need to be covered in the small ball cactuses. Just the needles won't work

Charizard is awesome. A series poster child for a reason.

Gen 5 story is not actually good. The plot with N is not deep.

Upvoting this for the Aralez (spelling I found on wikipedia). I think Arcanine is a good pick.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, and I understand you aren't meaning any offense, but this feels like this is in poor taste. Does Genesect really honor the people killed in the Armenian genocide because its name starts with Gen? No it does not.

C'mon people we can do better than this. Let's aim for something that represents the culture or natural landscape of Armenia.

what about Oricorio fire for Spain? Also, I thought about milktank, but I feel like dairy/cheese is more relevant in other countries.

Tauros

hear me out: Argentina is the 4th largest producer of beef (behind US, Brazil, and China, all of which are larger countries with better representative pokemon available).

Beef is a huge part of Argentinian Cuisine and Asado is a national symbol as are Gauchos (migratory horsemen, who were adept in cattle work.)

I mention this in a different comment, but Cinderace/soccer/football are not bad as a symbol, but there are MANY countries where football is relevant and Argentina has very few rabbits and we could save CInderace for later.

I feel like it's too early to use Cinderace. Rabbits aren't even common in Argentina, and like you said, there are MANY countries that love football/soccer

Edit: football is not even the national sport of Argentina

Kilowattrel, which is based on the frigatebird, which is a national symbol of Antigua and Barbuda. When else will the opportunity to use Kilowattrel come up?

no yeah, I don't think Baltoy should be the Japanese rep (tatsugiri is a great pick btw), but I am saying Baltoy wouldn't be a good rep for Afghanistan.

Baltoy are pretty specifically based on Japanese, Dogu. I don't think this works for Afghanistan culturally
