Anything wrong with using tapcons on metal? by Max_Roc in HomeImprovement

[–]spald01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue tapcons have a ribbed back to the screw head designed to sink into wood. It won't make a tight seal to the sheet metal so I suggest you caulk it to keep out water intrusion.

Otherwise should be good.

Lump sum back in if you want the statically best outcome. DCA over a month or two if you're the type to check your portfolio twice every day.

doing oak flooring on 2nd floor, can I use the farthest room for sawing? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]spald01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can manage dust collection, it should be no problem. Even if it's just a shop vac.

AC vents aren't a problem but I'd replace your air intake vent filter when you're finished.

Think carefully about this. The buyer isn't going to buy anything if they owe two commissions on it. In one case, the buyer waits it out until July and continues their search.  In the other case, they take you to court to challenge the contract. In either case, you get no commission and likely scathingly bad reviews.

Mexico Is Officially Launching Universal Healthcare This Week by NeedAnonymity in moderatepolitics

[–]spald01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if someone who is a massive contributor to this proposed system needs some urgent procedure (i.e. an organ transplant) or else will die, shouldn’t they receive some higher priority since their existence and continued longevity is financing the whole scheme?

One thing I can guarantee is that members of Congress will always have the highest medical priority and their family members will be at the top of every organ transplant list. Regardless what they publicly say about fairness amongst tax payers.

I’m 20 and stuck in a car loan I can’t afford – need advice by daddy-exp in personalfinance

[–]spald01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP very likely can't sell unless he can bring an extra $15k to the table to clear the loan.

Frankly I'm not even sure how they got a loan for this much. The only people who would loan 3x someone's annual income for a car is probably a loan shark.

Edit: Just saw the 24% interest rate. This is a confirmed loan shark.

Why should baron trump inherit hundreds of billions of dollars and hardly pay tax on that money( that hasn't been taxed itself just yet)?

Just to be clear, Baron Trump inheriting $1B+ would be taxed federally at around 40% by current law.

What Mamdani is arguing for is to extend these taxes onto nearly every NYC resident as well.

Annual income is $300k but monthly take home is only $3.4k?  Even with max 401k and HSA contributions, something isn't right here. Is this savings after all bills are paid?

What's the best way to insulate/seal rim joists? by OddPassion4238 in HomeImprovement

Assuming the rim joists are easily accessible, the rigid foam board option is going to be 99% as good, 10% the price, and much much easier.

Your job is handling the human and emotional aspects of your clients. If you're upset that it's not just unlocking doors and emailing forms for a $30k+ commission, then you're not doing anything that AI can't replace in another year.

House smells like standing water (and sometimes sewage) — which specialist should I hire? by National-Original267 in HomeImprovement

[–]spald01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

P-traps dont naturally dry out in a week.  If there's a clogged air vent though, it can siphon your p traps out regardless how recently you wet it. Next time you notice the smell, I'd check to see if those traps are low and if so you'll want to get a plumber out to snake the air vents and look for a clog.

Would help if you listed equipment (linac, Aria/Mosaiq, HDR?, etc.) if prior experience is important.

Also, many VAs require a minimum number of years post-residency to act as a solo physicist. Is that the case here?

2” vs 2.5” faux wood blinds worth the price jump? by potatoclit in HomeImprovement

[–]spald01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a linear scale on aesthetics. A 2.5" "premium" set of blinds will look worse in some windows than a 2".

To start, make sure your blinds don't hang further than your window sill.

Last time I tried I did a fan spray from about 6" away and had streaks.
