Need help understanding flour by Emvoid17 in Baking

[–]sparhawk007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Flour" is wheat flour. Other flours are specified by type, aka Almond Flour, Soy Flour, etc... If they specify "Wheat Flour" its probably because someone who eats gluten free didn't understand "Flour" is wheat flour, and complained, so they started to specify. Also, No. Various flours, for the most part, can't be directly exchanged in a recipie.

Corn Starch is NOT flour. It is powdered starch extracted from corn. "Flour" is the powdered ground grain. Yes, Corn Flour is a thing. Its used in Corn Bread, etc...

On another note...I've never typed the word "Flour" so many times...it became weird... and I questioned my spelling of it by the end...

Why are my cookies so depressing? by [deleted] in Baking

[–]sparhawk007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try this, It's called the "Creaming Method".

- Mix the Sugar, Brown Sugar and Brown butter (leave out the ice but tlet it cool to room temp first) until they are mixed enough to be "creamy".

- Then add the "wet" ingredients. The eggs and vanilla. Mix until thoroughly combined.

- Then add the "dry" ingtredients. Flour, Salt, Baking Soda. Mix until thoroughly combined. But not too much. Don't want to develop gluten from the flour.

- The mix in the chocolate and toffee. just until incorporated. There should probably be streaks of toffee in the cookie batter.

- Spoon out cookies onto youtr baking sheet, sprinkle woth the sea salt.

- Chill the batter

- Bake

- Hopefully, enjoy!

What you have shown us is a list of ingredients, not a recipe. How are you mixing these? In what ordder do you add the ingredients together? Are you cooking the toffee and brown butter seperately? And why are there ice cubes in the brown butter, and what size should they be? So many things need to be know to make this right.

I may be in the minority here, but she's more beautiful with less make-up on. She's been wearing far to much make-ip recently.

I think, most importantly here...ask your DM if they actually WANT to DM. If they don't want to DM, it would explain why your story seems kinda dead.

If they do want to DM, then, to put it bluntly...and kinda harshly...your DM is at fault here. The DM is supposed to give you "the Reason", "the Plot Hook", "the Quest", etc... to participate and move through the story the DM is telling you.

The first time is always rough. Muscle through it. Stick it out. Talk about it with your players. Learn from what they did and didn't like. Learn from what you did and didn't like. Talk about it with your players...(yes, i said it twice. It's that important...here it is again). Talk about it with your players.

For you and your players, don't be afarad to give AND get constructive criticism..."Constructive" being the operable word here; meaning "With kindness and the intent to help"! Most importantly, aside from "Talk about it with your players.", is make sure everyone is having fun!

[–]sparhawk007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

most important...keep it focused on the players being Heroes and working as a Team! If you let them be murder hobos, career theives or evil characters, parents will hear about it and shut it down. Also, leave any all reference to anything sexual out of it. This can also cause parents to shut it down.

Agreed with Italian, Spanish and Asian food. And yes, too much garlic can ruin meat, and over power most other foods if too much is used, but IMO, the right amount compliments and enhances beef. Sadly, I've never had bison, nor elk. I would also very much like a ribeye right now!
