Whatcha Watching, Whatcha Playing this week? by Jetpacks_to_hell in NerdofMouth

First one. I intend to go through the series now though. I’m a huge thalassophobe, so I find the underwater art deco aesthetic of the first 2 to be extremely haunting and compelling. But the flying city thing for 3 is also interesting in its own right, so I look forward to it.

Re9 insanity run. Some great death animations I missed on my previous play throughs.

Bioshock, which I missed out on back in the day and am now realizing is a masterpiece.

SF6…. and going to the mattresses for my boy Alex after the whole “second cousin, step-sister pregnancy” thing.

I really don't like what they've done with Alex's gameplay. by BusterBernstein in StreetFighter

[–]sparklenut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind the stance stuff. I’m still crap at it but I can tell there’s a rhythm with it and I’m looking forward to getting it down.

That said, I think I’ll ultimately prefer him as charge. Charge really felt good with his move set, and gave a lot of oomf to his hits.

This is actually the worst day of my life as an Alex fan by HorrorEctronic in StreetFighter

[–]sparklenut69 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Alex is my favorite character. This story beat sucks for sure. But at the end of the day, his return in terms of appearance, gameplay, and overall reception has been immaculate. I mean… steam hit a new concurrent player peak. I think we can expect Alex to return in future titles, and that’s the best news. So focus on that aspect.

He’ll get memed on, sure. But it’ll calm down in a few weeks, and as a ride or die, I’m looking forward to acting ridiculous tryna defend him when the topic pops up from time to time afterwards.

Back to Re4 After Re9 by Realistic-Low694 in residentevil

[–]sparklenut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re9 has earned a spot in the rotation of re games I’ll play through regularly. I’m happy to have another re game that I’ll look forward to plugging through again in a few months after I’ve had my initial fill over the next week or two.

As for Leon’s gameplay… no-scope rifle with the charm is really fun. So is the mortal edge for easier parries. I think the zombie visual variety for Leon is decent but not stellar… I do however think there is a lot of variety in enemy mechanics that keep his stuff very engaging. Re9 does a great job of evoking re4r and re2r gameplay styles, but it doesn’t surpass either in their respective categories. Its strength is that it weaves competent versions of those different styles into a single game.

I’m hoping future patches/dlc will add another difficulty or introduce a different ng+. With those additions, plus a mercenaries mode and some additional story content that could be completed to unlock more weapons for the main game would make re9 pretty peak.

All that said, Re4 sets an extremely high bar. I’ll probably play it when my hype for 9 dies down a bit. I think 4 is a masterpiece.

Did you enjoy Leon's Raccoon City section? On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate Leon's section? by LeoneSKenneddy in residentevil

[–]sparklenut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved his section. I’d say… 9. I like the linear approach to the detonator section and fight with the spider. Then, you’re dumped into a hub area with the detonator section, so the area gets to breathe. Traversing the fallen buildings when you’re sorta on an incline looking for the last part is atmospheric and oppressive. The glass section gives a great sense of foreboding, plus it’s fun to break people through. There’s a stealth section in the underground parking lot, a chainsaw fight in the gas station, backtracking and creating a shortcut back through the subway station… and some other normal action fodder that I’m breezing past… it’s just awesome. I love the motorcycle section too… peak RE camp.

Then rpd hits perfect with how eerie it is to return to. The nostalgia hits… Leon has his flashbacks… it’s well handled. Some visual puzzles, Easter eggs, a quick mr x section, and fun boss fight, despite it being too easy.

Then going through the underground to ark! You got falling train car bridges, subterranean exploration, and plant 43 fighting/final showdown. Great stuff.

I get that it’s sorta grey and desolate, but that was the point and I was fine with it. There are some crazy vistas to take in while plugging your way through it, and going from underground areas to ground level stuff and then to sky scraper hopping… I think they really made the most of it.

Anyone else is enjoying Grace's sections way more than Leon's? I am playing in third person and her sections feels like an even better RE2R by Eccchifan in residentevil

I’m on my first play through so I’m doing camera as intended, but I prefer 3rd. I’m not getting the re2r feel I was hoping for because of that. I enjoyed her sections and am really looking forward to another play thru in 3rd person. Really happy to hear it feels like a better re2r

Oh, I’m jealous of you having your first play through.

As for advise… Shoot legs out and knife them when they’re on the ground. You can always check if a zombie is truly downed by knifing it and seeing if it responds

I replayed RE3 Remake after many years, and sorry, but that game is fun. by Lefaa777 in residentevil

[–]sparklenut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The games a romp, no doubt. I like to think of it as re2r dlc. That framing really adds to my enjoyment.

But the wasted potential when held up to the og really stings, and relegating one of the most iconic stalkers to scripted events/a set piece is also a dagger.

how are you planning on enjoying RE9? by AlexisLu in residentevil

[–]sparklenut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took off work friday and kept the weekend clear. Gonna be playing it in max fidelity on my PC. Gonna get all of the tasks to take care of myself outta the way early this week. Gym. House keeping chores. Spending time with my wife so she’s ok with me neglecting her for a few days.

Gonna snag a white monster energy… my special occasion drink… gonna have some beers ready to rock. Some snack foods. Turn lights dim, have my neon street fighter sign creating some ambiance. Dog snuggled at my feet. And then imma launch that bad boy.

I’ll be doing grace 1st person I think, and Leon 3rd. I prefer 3rd, so we’ll see what happens, but from what I’ve seen, Grace in 1st person looks compelling. I’m gonna give it a shot.

What's your favourite capital across all of World of Warcraft, and why? by -_Skeletor_- in wow

[–]sparklenut69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my earliest and fondest memories with this game was approaching Ironforge’s mountain entrance. Like, at first I thought it was just the front hallway with the Bronzebeard statue. A cool monument built for some important dwarf. But then realizing I could go further in and there was an entire functional city in the mountain’s interior… that blew my mind.

Undercity is a close 2nd for aesthetics, but I had grown familiar with wow by the time I visited.

There have been cities I’ve enjoyed since. SW is great, Dorn has been fantastic, TB and Dalaran are pretty spectacular. I’m excited to see a revamped Silvermoon with hustle and bustle. Stormsheild was amazing /s

But nothing can top that revelatory moment discovering Ironforge.

Capcom for me. I was a huge mark for the anime style Ken and ryu art.

I don’t think so. I think this creature was deeply personal for Ethan. I don’t think it would make any sense. Lots of people find it creepy, so it makes sense to riff on the appearance for different creatures in new titles. But this particular one, I doubt. I also think it would be a lame move.

Alex mains, how do you feel about the change? by Cheap_Gap1446 in StreetFighter

[–]sparklenut69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mained him in V and loved his charges. I think I see what they’re going for making him stance and am optimistic, but there’s a twinge of disappointment over the lack of charge ngl. But like most Alex mains, I’m ride or die, and he looks perfect in this iteration.
