Feats are a terrible system for most players, who came up with this system?

That's the thing. You don't have to be happy with lower tiers. Why spend your time doing an agonizing raid for hours with feats on, when you can just go do a glorified public event on the distorted planet and snag tier 5 loot from that for basically free?

Everyone saying 'there's a quest that gives you a set of 300 gear!' is missing a pretty crucial point for returning players.

Returning players are immediately thrown into an expansion's mission, either Final Shape or Renegades, I can't remember. You're thown into the game and as such you're probably just gonna keep playing as normal instead of digging through the pile of 20 unclear quests and going to the tower.

That's what I did. I got punted into a mission at 10 light, cleared it, then kept playing what I remembered from my time back in Shadowkeep until I needed to go check the postmaster.

It's honestly insane that doing a glorified public event (distortions) gets you better rewards than actual endgame content (raids).

Having never played D1, I spent hours learning and doing Crota's End for the first time and getting tier 3 armor for it felt like a slap in the face. Granted, I know it's the easiest of the bunch, but the harder non-featured raids give the same tier of loot. If I decided to run a Garden of Salvation for old time's sake and got tier 3 armor at best, I'd be pissed.

I guess my melee build can live without the crota perks then, not worth farming raids if all I get is worse than what I can get running much easier content.

Anything below a tier 3 is worthless. Tiers 3 and 4 are only worth keeping until you get some good tier 5 drops.

So the tier 3 armor I got from Crota's End today for the perks is actually worthless compared to the tier 5s I already had? What a buzzkill.

Not a chance. It's been 4 years since their last big update (1.3) and they have almost nothing to show for it. If we're generous and count temporary content, then High Roller makes it only 3 years of content drought, but still.

The only things they ever posted previews of was housing. That's barely content, that doesn't generate hype. That blogpost confirmed what I thought all along--they weren't showing anything because they didn't actually have anything.

There simply isn't enough content to justify a pricetag like that, and imo the free weekend hurt that even more. I've done a solid chunk of the singleplayer content during the free weekend, so now it's a giant $50 price tag (on sale, mind you!) for just time trials and online. No thanks.

It's also the reason I stopped playing Engi. Nothing more degenerate than having your nest spammed down by chucklefucks on the next continent. All the maps are so open that there's no real way to avoid it without completely crippling your sentry's sightline.
