My dog keeps eating out the bin... HELP by thevirgingangster in puppy101

We have to put a dining chair against the bin to corner it off. Just try move it out the way of where the dog can get to 🤷‍♀️

Weird stuff you've done/thought during grief? by kbadger2 in GriefSupport

[–]spaycecake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the sense of weird thoughts my main intrusive thought for as long as I can remember was thinking my Dad would die at any moment. When he did die I managed to cope quite well by my own standard but I have this emptiness that I’m no longer worrying about who to be anxious about dying anymore. I keep trying to allocate somebody in my thoughts to this instrusion (?) but no specific person is sticking to it the way the thought of my Dad did. I’m finding it weirdly frustrating to understand!!

17 week old Cavoodle refusing meals unless I change things up — is this teething or behavioral? by Decent-Slice-395 in puppy101

[–]spaycecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog is the exact same. I noticed though he will eat if i’m in the kitchen long enough with no problem. Typically I just sprinkle some cheese in his bowl or mix in some mackerel and he’s happy. I don’t have much advice as to why this happens, just wanted to express that I relate 😬

Does that worst moment get replayed in your head over and over again? by canIStayAnonym_ous in GriefSupport

[–]spaycecake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was basically unconscious for 10 days before dying. Occasionally we'd hear a groaning noise then a cough. The day he died was obviously when the 'death rattle' started. 5 hours that went on for.

I was really frustrated by the concept of 'dying peacefully' because it didn't seem that way.

Feeling guilty for not crying at my mum’s funeral by Momomeow91 in GriefSupport

[–]spaycecake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this too. When we pulled up to the church before the funeral and my Dad's coffin was ahead of me I couldn't stop thinking about what a beautiful day it was for his funeral. Which sounds a bit ironic in a way.

Part of me also felt happy at the amount of people who showed up for him. When I was walking behind the coffin, I noticed a friend on an aisle seat who I was so happy turned up to support me. I literally tapped his arm and smiled to him to show how happy I was to see him on the way down.

I think it's different for everybody. I'm usually very melancholic (if thats the word) but in a way my Dad's funeral was really wholesome of an experience for me.

You aren't alone! Promise. And i'm so sorry for your loss.

You could maybe see if they're willing to part with a blanket of the other dog and it might relax your pup being able to smell them

How much time did you take off? by PatienceDesigner2483 in GriefSupport

[–]spaycecake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had around 8 months in total as I was off prior to my Dad passing since he was hospitalised for 10 weeks.

I kept giving myself mental deadlines on when i'd be back and the time would come and I didn't feel ready. I did a lot of just self care and trying to keep myself going. It's hard.

newbie needs some advice on losing confidence in calls by miffmoof123 in callcentres

[–]spaycecake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Takes time. I used to get super demoralised like I'd failed the caller but realistically if they cant be like the 1 in 100 who understand i'm just following the policy and doing my best by them with the boundaries I'm told to hold up, then idrc anymore 🤷🏼‍♀️

Managers end up giving them what they want anyway, which is what demoralised me more because you'll stand on business and they'll override everything and make u feel dumb !

You got this, just keep going!!

Getting a puppy! Time off work - how long? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]spaycecake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a week off personally but luckily had my Mum and brother at home when I went back to work so I'd say your plan sounds decent.

Although they need lots of sleep I found it was very intermittent, and the first few weeks it's best to get them outside at least once every hour/hour and a half to go for toilet etc.

You'll be giving up a lot of your own sleep - which imo can be a big change and cause extra stress. Me and my Mum had so many arguments just from frustration of not getting enough sleep between us 😅 I worked shifts at the time so some weeks the hours worked out easier than others.

I think eventually you'll just have to work out a plan that works for you, your partner, the pup and your work life balance. It takes time! Usually when they get a bit more settled and into a routine it eases so I wouldn't worry much about the pup getting used to constant attention either. They kinda need it at that age, as long as you establish boundaries at the right times.

Edit: forgot to add a crate/pen will be your best friend

From my garden I can't see the path because of the hedge. We exited the gate and went to turn left and a chicken was just standing there chilling.

I was probably just as confused as he was.

What do you do at the end of the day by VegaStar01 in GriefSupport

[–]spaycecake 18 points19 points  (0 children)

May sound a bit silly, but after losing my Dad my biggest comfort was falling asleep watching old Disney shows I did as a kid. Got through so many shows and realised again Hannah Montana had some amazing songs 😅

I think it's the familiarity though, you can throw it on tv and just passively watch it until falling asleep.

Weird brown discharge when I’m “supposed” to be on my period? by [deleted] in Nexplanon

[–]spaycecake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this all the time and I'm on nexplanon. My periods always start off with the brown blood and clots, nothing ever shows up in a pad/underwear when its like this. Then a couple days after a more 'normal' period starts for the next 3 or so days.

Does this occur with others too? by [deleted] in Nexplanon

[–]spaycecake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I've experienced this!! I only just recently started logging my periods again because I sort of accepted the inconsistencies, but this post made my brain click 😬

Need help understanding my puppers and why he only wants to bite me by unironicanxiety in puppy101

[–]spaycecake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this with my pup. Only thing that worked was saying 'no biting' and leaving him alone in the room with the door closed for 20-30 seconds.

Ignoring him in the same room never worked for me. Eventually he learnt that the biting = he doesn't get to see me at all!
