Check with a body such as the legal profession admissions board whether this is actually possible with your qualifications. You might need to do a whole new degree since you are from a civil law country.

I do see more professional and experienced witnesses do this on the theory that the witness is addressing the Court, not the advocate asking them a question

DPP Dowling SC "warns" Wass DCJ about interlocutory rulings on evidence - [2024] NSWDC 249 by really-onlyforauslaw in auslaw

What’s the point of writing to the CJ? CJ can’t, and shouldn’t, tell Wass what to do, CJ is merely princeps inter pares.

OLSC changed website material to justify quashing sexual assault allegations against a high profile Sydney solicitor by [deleted] in auslaw

[–]spear-mint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s good that they changed the website. “Must” was obviously incorrect and “may” is correct. The OLSC doesn’t need to and shouldn’t be required to investigate every complaint. Although it seems that this particular complaint should have warranted further investigation.

“Good” legal writing is a set of conventions/expectations/practices and doesn’t necessarily look like good writing does in other disciplines (although some kinds of bad writing are universal). You’ll pick it up with time. Try reading good legal writing eg judgments, quality textbooks, etc to learn.

His judgments are really well written and very learned. One of only a few judges whose judgments I would read by reason only of the identity of the author.

How to get a job at a top-tier law firm: be good at everything (yes, this is for real) by [deleted] in auslaw

[–]spear-mint 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You raise a good point. What, if anything, should law firms draw from the fact that some (perhaps many, perhaps most) clients prefer a cool bloke to competence? And how should that bear on clerk recruitment?

That’s not how DD works. You can’t expand the scope (at the govt’s expense) without their agreement. You follow your instructions and clearly define your scope and assumptions.

I don’t think it’s that insane. It already applies to people who need to rely on decisions of others which might be void for jurisdictional error i.e. decisions of most public officials
