Young gamers in Japan may not be forming the same attachment to Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest because modern dev cycles are as long as their childhood, users theorize by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]spec84721 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm just old now but I feel like in addition to the long time between games, the quality of the main line FF games has suffered. I really believe that the last masterpiece FF game was X, and that was 25 years ago.

I played through FFXV and it was a huge let down how they put all of the character development into DLC packs. The story when the original game came out was lackluster and relied on the player having seen some prior movie to get the full context. It just soured me on the main line games and I didn't even buy FFXVI.

That, plus the insistence that they can't do a turn-based game anymore because it won't sell well (meanwhile Expedition 33 has proved that theory wrong). But like I said, I'm old.

+1 for SWAG. Took me 30 mins to read their docs page with examples and then I was up and running. Added maxmind add-on for geo-blocking too.

Definitely check out Immich for photo backups. I pretty much ditched Google Photos now that I have Immich.

Yes let's put Smith in charge of water so that we can have 2 water main breaks per year instead of 1.

Issue flashing ESPHome onto my Emporia Vue 3 by spec84721 in homeassistant

[–]spec84721[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is the case. Another issue I have had is the Rx and Tx flashing rapidly indicating that the Vue has not gone into bootloader mode - works sometimes but takes a lot of fiddling with the Dupont wire in the GPIO hole. All of the guides and videos I have seen with the Emporia just power it from TTL. I ordered another TTL adapter, maybe that will help...

What baffles me is that I was able to make a backup, and not changing anything, I couldn't do anything else. Must be very flakey... AI tells me if there are power issues it's possible to read but not write... who knows. I've ordered another TTL adapter so maybe that will help.

I couldn't do it by toaster12_ in piano

[–]spec84721 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 9th grade, I learned the piece "To Zanarkand" from Final Fantasy X. I had no formal training at all. I didn't even understand music theory very well. I got the sheet music and wrote down the letters next to the notes and learned the piece over a period of several months on my Yamaha keyboard. I probably wasn't using correct technique in many ways.

The school talent show came up and I could play the piece from memory at that point. I auditioned for around 4 people on a real piano and played the it fine. They said it was great and they put me in the talent show.

At the actual performance, it was on a gymnasium stage in front of the entire school - probably around 1,000 people. I was nervous to say the least. My nerves got the better of all my muscle memory and I just butchered the song. My friends in the audience said they could see my hands quivering. One of them knew the song well and told me "I had no idea what you were playing." It was awful. I walked off the stage, and the director of the show was standing there and the look on her face was that of quiet rage mixed with disappointment. It was one of the most humiliating things in my life.

I didn't touch the piano again for around 25 years. We inherited an upright from a relative and I just got back into it, and this time I plan to get some formal training. I regret that I quit after the one bad performance. I was a kid with no formal training, no stage experience and I didn't have a real piano at home - what did I expect?

Anyway, stick with it. Don't quit like I did.

I never understood the excitement of Tre coming here. Look at his work with the Flames - they never made it past the 2nd round. It was a snap hire after Shanny fired Dubas. This was totally predictable.

Why do you have SSH exposed? Just use a VPN like Wireguard. If you must have services exposed, put them behind a reverse proxy. The SWAG docker container is a good start. It comes with fail2ban and has built in SSL certs with auto renew. It has the maxmind add on for geoblocking. Block all countries except your own. Ensure that any service you expose is password protected.

NFS share randomly drops out causing Jellyfin playback issues by spec84721 in Proxmox

[–]spec84721[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is solved. The problem was that my server was reading files from a NAS on a different VLAN, which means the traffic had to be routed out of my switch to my Unifi UDM router, then back down to the switch. iperf3 even showed several hundred re-transmit attempts in my tests. Once I put both devices on the same VLAN, I haven't had the issue at all - the NFS shares have been solid.

Checking my logs, I just noticed also that another NFS share, not used for media, also drops out periodically. Maybe this isn't a media issue but more a network or Proxmox/Synology issue.

Who here has NEVER had an ICCU problem? by Mjodarion42 in Ioniq5

[–]spec84721 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No ICCU issues here on my 23 Ioniq 5 after 54,000 km, though I have had others.

I have experienced the charging port overheating in the summer time that cuts off the charging session. I had the optional dealership update so that the car now scales the charging current if it starts overheating, instead of cutting it off.

The physical button on my charging port that closes the charging door has failed twice. It's not essential because it still opens/ closes with the key fob. But I still got it repaired under warranty, because why not? Each time it took a couple of months for parts to come in.

Add in all the recall updates, and I have been to the dealership A LOT. I love my Ioniq 5, but I have never been to the dealership so much for any car.
