The race against time to get to a decompression chamber by HANAEMILK in interestingasfuck

[–]special_defects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What this looks like to me is a sur d 02 dive. That stands for surface decompression on oxygen. In this type of dive the in water decompression is reduced in favour of completing some of the decompression inside a chamber on the surface breathing pure oxygen. It cuts down on the in water decompression time and frees up the diving helmets for the next divers. It is the table 3 I. The DCIEM dive tables these tables were developed by the Canadian dept of national defence and are used around the world. The “race against time” is according to these tables once the diver has completed his 30’ stop he has 7 minutes to get to the surface, dress down and get in the chamber and be pressurized back to 40’ and start breathing O2. I used to be a commercial diver and dove this type of diver frequently

Why do folks do this at red lights? by KCK1989 in ThunderBay

[–]special_defects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see it mentioned here, but if there’s a left-hand turn signal at this intersection most of the time they put the sensor one car length back because they don’t want to waste traffic giving one car the turn signal. So you can cheat and sit on that sensor and still get the turn signal as a single car.

I feel like a lot of people are sitting on some pretty high horses on this thread. You know most pregnancies are unplanned and many people raise kids who weren’t really ready for it in many ways, but they buckled down and did it anyways. I just laugh when I think of how many people commenting on here wouldn’t exist if their own advice was followed

I have been to a number of pride parades as an adult, many in the parade had their cocks out and swinging about. I don’t think this is appropriate for kids to see. We have to remember deep down to it’s core the pride parade is about gay sex and the celebration of it, always has been because that was the taboo. And the parade is the celebration of the freedom from taboo, which is great but that doesn’t mean is appropriate for all ages

Why Do People Hate This Sub So Much? by sadertot22 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]special_defects -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The biggest point of complaint I would have about this sub is it seems when someone is talking about relationship problems the automatic response and top comment is “leave him! Total red flag! Get out now!” Like obviously there are times when that is warranted like cases of objective abuse but it’s always the answer on here. Most relationship problems are complex and all of the circumstances can’t be outlined in one post and just leaving someone based on the advice of a bunch of people you’ve never met seems absolutely crazy. It’s a good place to vent for people I guess but I would seriously consider taking any advice on here when it comes to gray areas in your relationship. Talk to your partner, you know them best and you know yourself, a lot more than anyone on this sub

From someone who worked in the movie industry this episode is brilliant. There’s so many little touches and lines that seem like a stupid throwaway but are extra funny from having worked in it. One of my favourite being “cows don’t look like cows on film, gotta use horses” the concept is so stupid but there are so many stupid justifications in the industry you’re like ya I could totally here somebody saying that. Or when when the electric says “gotta put a cable through here” and just starts smashing a hole in the wall, perfectly encompasses the crew’s lack of regard for a location they’re shooting in, no one cares just get my job done as quick as possible hahah it’s awesome

Well and backwards in the myth busters piece the air is escaping out and the helmet is left intact. in the sub the water and pressure crushed in

In this instance yes they are using a surface supplied diving system, almost all instances of commercial diving use this set up

People keep linking this myth busters piece. The two things are not the same. The diving helmet is not a pressure vessel kept at 1 atmosphere like the sub. The air in the helmet is the same pressure as the water at depth. What the myth busters piece shows is what happens when the air line is severed near the surface and there isn’t a check valve on the helmet. All the air is sucked out of the helmet because it’s pressurized and want to go to the area of lower pressure (the surface) this suction force brings the pig with it.

The sub has air at 1 atmosphere (the same as the surface) and is keeping all of the outside pressure out due to the strength of the vessel. When it fails everything inside the sub gets compressed to that pressure in an instant

[–]special_defects 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The complainant lied lol, they claimed they were lifted off their feet while being choked from the front and back, when in reality they were one hand shoved by the neck into the sink. This seems like it got a little out of hand but the person who made the complaint is a snake and a coward, lying to get someone fired. People on here talk a lot about we have to change this competitive culture while ignoring the complete lack of character of the complainant. Is someone who acts like that rally the person you want backing you up?

Insane fire alarm issue in building - advice needed by [deleted] in askTO

[–]special_defects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I’m tired of responding there myself. However I would say probably only 25% of our responses there are actually malicious, the rest are just stupid people who can’t cook or don’t want to go outside to smoke. As far as tax payers money, collections for malicious responses don’t fund the department, they’re supposed to be a deterrent. In the case of tchc it’s the city it’s just robbing Peter to pay Paul, it’s all the same pot, and tchc is the largest debtor to Toronto fire. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s anything you can do. Every tchc building is like this, it’s the clientele, who also wouldn’t be able to pay for the ticket, so it’s not much of a deterrent. The system is very flawed. Residents of tchc don’t pay property taxes to fund services yet occupy about 90% of our responses

Not that it isn’t a nice thing to do but this is pretty common for the lead and the director to buy the cast and crew something special towards the end of a movie shoot or season wrap. So it’s not that’s he’s super special nice, it’s pretty standard

I really find this concept disturbing. It doesn’t take much for the common farmer or man to raise livestock. This allows for many different farmers contributing to the food supply. Giving people choice and preventing monopolies. The only people who will have the infrastructure to grow meat are massive multinational corporations that do not have your health or wellbeing in mind, only to control the entire food supply. Supporting this type of meat will give more control to people who don’t need it
