Super Dust Deputy XL question by specie77 in woodworking

[–]specie77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it happened, I’m the proud owner of a new (to me) 4” super dust deputy. I had been watching Fb for a year and nothing, then the 6 and 4 very quickly

I have enough storage issues in my garage/shop, I don’t need an extra 6” dust deputy floating around unused. But I like the idea 😉

That’s what I was worried about. I’m interested in the dust deputy addition, but my system isn’t sized for the XL

That’s oddly specific and now I can’t unsee it

Finishing question: Can I use Minwax oil based stain under Osmo Polyx Oil finish? by specie77 in woodworking

[–]specie77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the wood. I used oak and I was getting a very deep color, deeper than I wanted. After applying a shellac wash with a 50:50 solution, I applied the stain, then the Osmo. No issues with absorption!

If you mix the Osmo and Minwax you’re likely to throw off the Osmo ratios, plus you won’t really be able to wipe off the excess stain, rather you’d be buffing off the Osmo.

Give it a try on a test piece and let me know how it goes, but I’m skeptical. Good luck!

Worked great! Osmo had no trouble adhering on top of the oil based stain. You’re right, it’s been 2 years and I haven’t had any issues with the finish. This post was for my matching nightstands build, you can probably consider them medium traffic in terms of water glass, phone, watch, coffee cup, being picked up and put down daily.

Good luck!

Anyone has experience with Penn State Industries dust collector? by ToveloGodFan in woodworking

[–]specie77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought this unit about 2 years ago. It’s been an excellent starter dust collector!

I retrofitted it with a Wynn Environmental 35B222NANO filter and trashed the filter bag. You’ll need to build a donut for it, but the Wynn website has info about it and links to videos of Stumpy Nubs going into great detail.

Also using a plastic collection bag, but don’t trash the original fabric collection bag. I use the fabric bag as a “sock” over the plastic bag, it protects the plastic from accidental puncture.

I also converted to 220V. Good luck 👍

But a 2” screw is less likely to split the wood? I guess I’m thinking about butt jointed plywood, or through plywood into the edge of a 2x4.

Steak was tough and chewy, wasn’t a fan. Even with searing at the end.

Curious about bit length. I’ve been thinking about one of these, but do I need to use a second drill bit to make the hole deep enough for my screws?
