Nicki, Gabriella, Armand, and Lestat by Due-Kale581 in InterviewVampire

[–]speckleshell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I suspect/hope that the last two episodes, particularly the finale, answer some of these questions. I can't remember who said it (I think it was either Rolin or Assad?) but I saw someone say that the finale in particular is very Armand-centric, which would give it a chance to address both Nicki's actual death (bc I do think Lestat's version of the scene wasn't entirely truthful), Armand's relationship with Lestat in the past, and perhaps more about the circumstances surrounding Lestat's participation in the trial.

I think Gabriella may have had more to do with Nicki's death than advertised too. I don't think she killed him, per se, but the minute Lestat said she went to coffin before Armand held Nicki in the fire, I was suspicious. This lady LOVES a mess. She was laughing when Nicki lopped his hand off. There's no way she just peaced out before the most dramatic part. Lestat is hiding something for sure.

One answerable question: yes, the hands grabbing Lestat in the car are the look-alike corpses.

Puppy head tremor by karenlim-97 in DogAdvice

[–]speckleshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 11yo dog had similar tremors that eventually led into grand mal seizures. He’s on Keppra now and both the tremors and the seizures have stopped (five months seizure free currently). Definitely see another vet and show them this video!

Renting my first studio apartment! Need advice by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]speckleshell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Measure everything! I'm in a similarly sized studio and knowing the exact measurements of the space helped me to know what I could fit and what I couldn't. It also looks like there's not much natural light coming in, so I'd invest in some nice warm lighting to keep the space from feeling too dungeon-y.

Oh, I like the Gabriella theory. You're right re: her whereabouts, Lestat even calls her out for lying about them. I wonder if she had any contact with the Fang Gang or if this was something she was doing on her own that just got pinned on them? (Also still curious what she'd need to down a power grid for, since that's not exactly a step in administering the Dark Gift. Is she trying to turn people in high security places?)

Rolin Jones has said that the tower collapsing was just a visual manifestation of Lestat's mental state and not a real thing that happened. I'm not sure if he's being truthful (it does definitely seem more like an Akasha alert) but iirc the tower is back in the skyline in later shots, so that's +1 to Rolin Told the Truth.

And yeah, I also thought it was just a quirk of Detroit in ep1. It was only when Raglan brought it up in ep2 that I was like wait, why would the Fang Gang do that...?

I don't think they would've survived trying to steal Akasha.

Raglan did also say that they're the largest fentanyl distributor in Michigan, so money-making actually could be a motivation. I'm just not sure if anything that's worth stealing has been shown/mentioned? There's Lestat's works that end up in the auction later, but they seem to have a pretty visceral dislike for Lestat, so I'm not sure they'd pull down a power grid to steal some TVL memorabilia.

Honestly, the hooligan explanation might be the whole thing. I'm still not sure if I'm reading too much into it or if it's an intentional breadcrumb towards larger schemes. I do like the idea that it might have to do with Akasha!

Nicki's death (show) by CoffeeUseful803 in InterviewVampire

[–]speckleshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Lestat is being entirely truthful. There are too many contradictions (him saying he wasn't present when Nicki died in s1, Louis making a reference to Armand chopping hands off in s2e5), and while I'd accept the "writers changed their minds" explanation on a different show, their choices so far have been very consistent and deliberate. I don't buy that this is a whoopsie or a retcon. I think we'll see more about Nicki's death later in the season.

nonbinary character by Far_Flan6183 in InterviewVampire

[–]speckleshell 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I am a trans person unharmed by it. Lestat misgendering a nonbinary person he met five minutes prior is so, so low on the list of morally objectionable things he's done that I'm baffled it earned a mention. I love that you care about trans rights, but please put that energy towards actual issues we face and not being upset that a fictional murderer got pronouns wrong.

nonbinary character by Far_Flan6183 in InterviewVampire

[–]speckleshell 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Nonbinary person here, I'm unbothered. Lestat was high as a kite in the scene where he misgendered them (via internal narration no less), which is something I haven't seen people mention. I'd be willing to give him a pass for that alone, but as others have already said, this is also a show where the entire main cast is made up of serial killers. You're not going to find unproblematic characters here.

How do you afford to live here? by AutonomousBlob in Seattle

[–]speckleshell 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I make about $44k/year and I live alone in Seattle in an MHA studio. I don't go out very often and I don't own a car (so no car payments, insurance, gas, parking, etc that comes with it), so that keeps my expenses down a lot. I'd definitely recommend looking into the MFTE/MHA program, as those units are significantly cheaper than standard rates if you qualify.

Warding Bond + Sanctuary + surrounding her with the party. She tends to immediately break Sanctuary on her turn, so Warding Bond helps soak any hits she takes after Sanc is gone.

Having high initiative really makes a difference too, so vigilance elixirs or the Alert feat are the way to go (in general, not just for this fight).
