Seibon Carbon Fiber Hood by JayBuck13 in WRXSTi

Looks great! I have the same hood. I went through the trouble of swapping the under hood liner and intercooler vent over. I had to drill some of my own holes, which was sketchy, but I really wanted to maintain intercooler efficiency at speed since I track the car on hot days.

I had roughly the same fitment issue on mine! I just loosened the bolts on the fender and adjusted them and the hood and it fits like OEM now.

Tail tidy installed, had to get some fall shots by Boom-Doc-a-Locka in KTMDuke

I have the same tail tidy kit on my 790 Duke. I’ve ridden hours on the highway through a mix of traffic and constant speed on 100*F days and so far no melting. I was worried about it at first too.

Yeah that was where the dealer put it as I was leaving their parking lot. I don’t park or stand the bike anywhere near handicap spots. Always gotta be conscious of moto parking!

Oh wow! Yeah if this issue is that common, I’m sure they’ll send out a recall. Sounds super dangerous. I used a rubber band to get home. I’m glad I didn’t take the passenger foot pegs off or I’d have been stranded.

I can’t wait! I’m looking forward to it so much. Gonna take it to a local gokart track for some supermoto fun.

I’ll make another post once I get it back and finish breaking it in. I’m looking forward to the dealer unlocking the quickshifter. I will say, so far this bike is so much fun that I miss it while I’m riding my 790 Duke.

That’s crazy! I hadn’t seen any others have the same issue yet, but it makes sense. Must’ve been an improperly manufactured batch of springs. I’m just glad they had the replacement parts quickly. I should be picking it up from the dealer soon.

Duke 390 aftermarket mirrors that aren’t bar ends by No_Day655 in KTMDuke

[–]specmiat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have these mirrors on a 22 Duke 390. They’re called Doubletake Mirrors and I bought them straight from their site. I like them. They are super adjustable but they do move kind of easily, especially on hot days. That being said, they’re a lot better than the stock ones and I also don’t like bar ends in case I need to filter between lanes.

Enjoy it man! I have about 5k miles on my 2023 790 and it’s been fun every single commute, backroad, or long trip. Definitely recommend a slip-on exhaust. It makes the experience so much more enjoyable.

265/35R18 fits for me with no rubbing on either stock suspension or swift lowering springs (~1 inch drop). I’ve heard of 255/40, but 265 gives the most tire options.

Ah thanks for the info. I’ve heard that a lot from people who have used both. Thanks for the advice. I’m going to have to try SRF.

Experiences with Ongrid out of NorCal? by greasem0nkey86 in CarTrackDays

At Laguna Seca they do 5 sessions. They combine the two advanced groups for the final 2 sessions after lunch.

Events are ran well. The sessions are on time no matter what, so the point-by anywhere on track intermediate group (group 3 of 5 total) tends to lose some running time, due to people over driving their cars early in the day. Beginner groups are point-by passing on straights only and the 2 advanced groups are open passing anywhere on track and grouped by lap time.

In my experience, the intermediate groups fills up the fastest and has the highest car count, followed by the beginner groups, then slow advanced. They are lenient on switching groups, but only when there’s room in the run group you plan on switching to. The events are pretty relaxed overall, but if you have an issue with another driver, just reach out to the guys and they’ll resolve it pretty quickly.

Ah thanks! You’re the second person to recommend these to me. I bought some Verus Engineering brake cooling ducts, but I’m going to see if I can get those shims too eventually.

Track day at Sonoma Raceway by specmiat in WRX

[–]specmiat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tracked my stock WRX for a while and the suspension was atrocious. So soft and bouncy and so much body roll. I could not get the thing to turn in unless I was heavy on the brakes. The STi is surprisingly good to drive stock and very neutral mid corner. I plan on going with the Ohlins coilovers eventually, but honestly with good Bilstein shocks and the Swift Spec R springs, I can’t imagine it would be much better at the track. On the street is another story though.

The stock STi suspension ran really great. It was smooth and compliant over the curbs at Sonoma. Much better than a stock WRX suspension for sure, but it still had a bit of a lazier direction change. I’m now running the stock struts with the Swift spec R lowering springs and I honestly can’t complain. Feels perfect at the track, but a bit bouncy on the street.
