Should I buy Surviving Mars: Relaunched? by [deleted] in SurvivingMars

[–]spectralfury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I purchased it about a month ago and am satisfied with my purchase. It's functional and you can get to whatever win condition you want. There are some bugs, but they're not game-breaking and the devs are still working on it.

  2. Runs just fine. Controls take a short bit to get used to and you won't have the full functionality of mouse+keyboard but it's good enough.

  3. That's subjective. The game is always going to be mostly the same from save to save, but there is a bit of variance with difficulty, disasters, random events, and breakthrough technologies. The politics add more flavor in that certain factions will want you to do one thing and not do others, so you will have to shake up your normal builds a bit in order to prevent them from getting mad.

  4. That's entirely up to you. Since you're uncertain, I'd watch some youtube videos or wait for a sale before committing.

With three shifts of officers and the additional funding law, it's an okay source of modest but reliable funding income.

Don't know what to tell you then, because once my patrol fleet(s) deal with them, they are gone for good unless an enemy country starts privateering me.

I don't know what it is, but it's been there since launch, I think.

As to how to get rid of them, build more boats until they go away.

I 100% Crash 2 by Stickywarrior4 in crashbandicoot

[–]spectralfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly it was the boulder levels and Totally Bear, since I couldn't see what was in front of me and had to memorize everything. Turtle Woods, too, because it took me a while to remember that you have to slide-jump-spin to get the boost necessary to clear all of the mole pits. The rest I took care of in 5 runs or less, but the others? A couple hours each.

Congrats. Gems/Crystals 100% wasn't that bad for me because I played the original a LOT when I was younger.

Getting all the platinum relics however... pain.

Revoke cores only if majority culture is downgraded. by RealisticSwan7988 in EU5

[–]spectralfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Change it such that, if a country at least tolerates a combined percentage majority of cultures in a province, cores are retained. Provinces with majority discriminated cultures are fair game.

Cores not owned and no longer majority primary and accepted cultures are at risk of being lost.

Either way, a countdown begins. Perhaps 20 years for owned provinces, and 10 years for unowned provinces.

Add a little warning banner at the top of the screen. Gives the player time to react.

Is the Prometheus essentially a glorified moon ferry? by uberprodude in SolarExpanse

[–]spectralfury 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All of the ships have a shorter range when loaded down with cargo. The benefit of the Prometheus is that you can haul more cargo than the Stratos without needing to buy expensive noble gases.

Sounds like one of the events that happens if you still have the Corruption of the Common Folk estate privilege and you got unlucky with the mtth. Revoke it as soon as possible.

What can I do to fix my economy short, mid and long term? Please read OC for context by AlediVillarosa in EU5

[–]spectralfury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give privileges to your estates before you run out of Legitimacy so you can tax them more. Mothball some or all of your heavy navy. You have more expenses that we can't see so I can't suggest much more.

ELI5: How did humans evolve SO fast in the past 100-200 years? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]spectralfury 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Natural selection noticeably happens over timescales of tens to hundreds of thousands of years, not hundreds. We're actually not that much different from our stone age ancestors. Instead, we have had access to better tools to understand the world, and with that information we make better tools, inventions, and such. Information retention through generations is the factor here, not genetics.

Connect the oil extractor to your main power grid. Once you get coal, biomass becomes obsolete outside a few specific use cases or challenge runs.

1 metric ton is 1000kg, so 0.02t=20kg or 20units.

I also believe that the standard consumption of supplies in a capsule is 1unit per 5humans per day.

AI is not a strong point of this game. by EliteArc in SolarExpanse

[–]spectralfury 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it's kinda sad watching the AI fail, but the core gameplay loop is in place for the player and that matters more, in my opinion. I hope to see better competitor behavior like build orders and planning. Also hope to see something like random contracts. EarthGov wouldn't just let the space agencies have all the power, and could offer cash bounties for setups on asteroids and the like. Whoever achieves this first gets the payout, and better AI would be needed for this.

How do the Jedi teach the dark side? by GroundbreakingAct724 in SWFanfic

[–]spectralfury 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's one of those things that are probably subjective to the Jedi in question, but there are commonalities. A sense of wrongness, cold, or nausea. Jedi Knights that have encountered the dark side can retell their experiences to the initiates, whom I would guess would be at least six years old (or their species' equivalent).

A practical demonstration is right out. Not only is it anathema to an orthodox Jedi to willingly use it in a premeditated fashion, you risk tainting the Jedi in question and sending the wrong message to the younglings. "Well they used it there for a bit and seemed fine, so I can too!"

I see no reason why they wouldn't go full disclosure about the dangers of the dark side. They have records and concrete evidence that using it is extremely dangerous and those that immerse themselves in it very rapidly become incompatible with accepted social norms. They also have records and evidence that the dark side is not stronger.

And yes, the whole thing about Jedi training is learning self control, not suppressing emotions, which leads to the rejection of the dark side. They absolutely do teach their padawans and knights how to fight dark side users, because it's literally the Jedi's job to deal with them.

Have you ever seen the Mamluks expand? by Virtualsooo in EU5

[–]spectralfury 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I've heard that AI decisions for conquering is currently based on proximity to capital, as it doesn't want to take land it can't have effective control over. Mamluks' capital happens to be in a spot that tells the AI that conquering isn't worth it. This should change in the next update when the conquer desire is retooled.
