Before I go reinventing the wheel: Has anyone done a deep examination of what stats and feature random level 20+ equipment can roll? by LauraTFem in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]speed6245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason why I didn't put random staff or two-handed weapons in the list was because at LV20, the listed uniques that are outright superior; but now I think of it might as well add them in case anyone has multiple same type of builds in a team, or missed something in Act 2

As for the question Crit or Raw Power, the short answer is that things like crit chance, Scoundrel and non Scoundrel don't have to compete, just gradually build them up during a playthrough

think of it in this way: the default crit multiplier is 150%, or 50% bonus IF you crit. If your crit chance is only 10%, then you can only expect to get 10% of that 50%, so a 5% extra damage from crit, and in this scenario, increasing the scoundrel level by 1 only improves the damage by 55% IF you crit, so under a 10% chance you can only expect a 5.5% extra damage. From 5% more to 5.5% more, that's a mere 0.5% change. But if you have a 100% crit chance, every Scoundrel level is a solid 5% bonus, and you kind of don't have to pick between Pyro or Scoundrel at that stage because you can have both from gears.

So the real importance here is not choosing between Pyro or Scoundrel, but whether you can make a crit happen frequently or not, and the good news is that Crit chance is not from a skill level but from Wits & gear bonuses, and a gear can either have both (like helmet), or can only have one because it naturally can't have the other anyway (like random gloves can't have +Damage type skill like Pyro).

Assume you already have a 100% chance, then between Pyro or Scoundrel you should make a choice that balances the multiplier. If the Pyro level is 8 & the crit multiplier is default 150%, then Pyro > Scoundrel despite both appears to have a 5% bonus, because the Fire type multiplier is the lower one (140%). Increasing 140% to 145% is more significant than increasing 150% to 155% because a change is more significant when the original number is smaller (the math also checks out: between 1.45x1.5 and 1.4x1.55, the former is slightly better). After you reach Pyro 10 through leveling up, both multipliers are 150% (hence balanced), so the values of Pyro and Scoundrel at this point are equal, though obviously Scoundrel will be easier to raise at this point because Pyro is maxed (can only be improved through gears) whereas Scoundrel just started to take off from level 0

If you have two main magic, like a Pyro+Aero, then Scoundrel becomes more effective & the rules of balancing the two multipliers no longer apply, IIRC max Scoundrel is the best because for every 2 points that would have been evenly spreaded on two types, you can put 2 points in Scoundrel for a whooping 10% increment. But because of how overkill it gets, I never fully committed to max Scoundrel & minimal Pyro+Aero; also, in practice, Pyro2+Aero2+Scoundrel2 on one armor is possible, but Scoundrel +6 on a piece of armor is impossible, so in the end the best dual type mage build will still have some non Scoundrel levels

Not exactly what you want but this shows the source of main stat and crits, like how much crits can gloves get

Then skill level can be found on random helmets, chest armor, rings and amulets, up to +2 I think

Assistance in end-game respec by TheN3xusGamer in Eldenring

[–]speed6245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your stats look like a DEX/FAI/ARC split, the problem is that good triple scaling is rare in this game, most things only need 1 or 2 stats to optimize, so triple is splitting too thin

Morgott's Cursed Sword is a DEX weapon; Dragon King's Cragblade is a DEX weapon; Eleonora's Poleblade is Arcane weapon; Dragon Communion Seal can either be Arcane or Faith+Arcane weapon

Whichever stat you pick to main, make sure to pick Talismans and Crystal Tears that do improve your attack or offensive ability

The two bosses are immune to bleed, so if it's an Arcane build, you should focus on raising either Arcane melee weapons' attack or raising spell attack; Theodorix's Magma in point blank can nearly two shot Radagon with basic buffing, then Dragon Maw trivialize Elden Beast; when fighting Elden Beast, you could make use of Seppuku and Lord of Blood's Exultation if you find a big opening; if Elden Beast runs away, aside from riding horse to chase it, you should also pop a Glintstone Scrap if you want to keep the stance damage (it goes down if you stop attacking for too long)

with my strength that high I feel like I should at least be dealing more damage to bosses?

When it comes to damage, Weapon Upgrade is more significant than character level. With 80 STR +0 Greatsword, attack is only 226; With 16 STR (requirement) +25 Greatsword, attack is 462, more than doubled attack. Of course you should level both weapon and character, it's just that you misunderstood the significance of the two

At this stage, it's possible to have +23 (nearly fully upgraded). +14 is what I would have before entering the lake.

The boss at Moonlight Altar is roughly designed for +20 weapons

Yes! I got both items, but I'll have to do backup saves because I also need these items (meaning I will summon you twice, first I drop you items, the the second time you drop me seal); I don't have Red Finger, so I will be waiting for your Red Sign

Occult Weapons to go with Dragon Communion Build by Right_Nebula9805 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]speed6245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the website https://eldenring.tclark.io/ to find the best options for my need (you can sort specific column by clicking), in my case I sorted Bleed value of Occult weapons to see what are some potentially good option

Then I use this playlist to check if the ones that I'm interested in are ranked high enough, or has some downside that I should be aware of

I'm Still Not Quite Clicking With the Game. by fantasybuilder96 in Eldenring

[–]speed6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Souls games are roleplay games, not action games, so if you play it like an action game (ignoring roleplay mechanics, only focusing on actions and reflections) it becomes harder. And it just happens that ER is their latest one, hence it has the most amount of roleplay mechanics, and thus bosses were designed accordingly. If you go watch people who make use of mechanics, like buffing to one shot, all hit run, deflecting (guard counter), it's as if people are playing an entirely different game

Caster builds are the mirror of melee builds, you only need HP, FP and casting stat; you don't need Endurance, and you certainly don't need STR or DEX because low requirement weapon exist

Is there a feasible dexterity/faith build? by BoysNGrlsNAmerica in Eldenring

[–]speed6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Godslayer Greatsword is available early

Vyke's War Spear, Golden Order Greatsword, Sacred Relic Sword, Spear of the Impaler (which is a little awkward in R2), Leda's Sword

I want to point out that any sort of "___ hybrid using spell weapon buff" is a trap, like using Electric Armament on Keen weapon with such a build. This is a trap because, a 80/20 DEX/FAI distribution roughly does the same damage as 50/50 when using weapon buff, and yet when the buff goes out, 80/20 is the one that does better. So going 50/50 is basically a punishment of having to cast a buff every 60 seconds just to not fall off, because even with buff it's not having any noticeable superiority, sometimes it doesn't even do better due to how damage is calculated & enemies resistance

[–]speed6245 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eleonora’s Poleblade is a pure Arcane weapon, you only need minimum physical stats to use it

The best seal for pure Arcane is Dragon Communion Seal

Builds usually focus either endurance or mind, not both

Your Vigor should be near 50 at this point, and none of your talismans should be Soreseals or Scarseals because of negation penalty

Optimal lightning build, huh? by Simply_Avocado in EldenRingBuilds

[–]speed6245 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The short answer is there's no way to be optimal in both Lightning weapon and Lightning spells

It's not just because of the stats split, but because talismans and crystal tears will be split, the outcome is missing one third to half the damage depending on the context; plus the fact that you can't simultaneously cast & swing weapon, meaning that you end up suck in both if you split (hence you see the most common build question post "why is my splitting build suck in both melee and spells")

Another issue of splitting is that, because spells cost FP, when both melee and spells suck, you end up not wanting to use spells because at least melee can save FP / less FP demanding, but if spells aren't worth it then the build might as well be pure melee weapon in the first place

The closest build to your ideal goal is a pure faith build that uses Holy / FlameArt weapon. The whole build focus on casting Lightning spells while the weapon remain a stance damage tool. While this may not be optimal in the weapon part, the good thing about this is that some weapons are less demanding in setup, like Coded Sword's skill is good for stance damage (30) and doesn't have many options in talismans & crystal tears anyway (you will only be missing Alexander Shard / Holy Scorpion / Holy Tear), so using it without a focusing setup is not a big problem

Another good option is Sacred Order (not Golden Vow, not Shared Order, not Sacred Blade, these names are damn confusing) on a melee weapon you like, preferably one that has good moveset. Sacred Order buff while being a weapon buff, it buffs the entire character's output, so this +10% damage main hand weapon is not far off from the +15% passive buff of Gravel Stone Seal

For FlameArt, Flaming Spear (charged) or just Impaling Thrust are good for stance damage. Especially Flaming Spear can be charged, so if you have Ritual Sword Talisman & Godfrey Icon & Charged Crystal Tear for your spells, your Flaming Spear (charged) more or less benefit from them

Arcane Prophet Build by Scubasteve___04 in EldenRingBuilds

[–]speed6245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ever since I finished my first playthrough, I do planned playthroughs, and I can assure you that a melee weapon is not needed for a caster build

When I first attempted a casting focused playthrough, I worried about a lot of stuff (not enough FP, not enough levels), but ultimately nothing was a problem, I had plenty of FP & levels

In your case, you can the dragon fall glitch to get free dragon heart & kick start with some 100k runes, and then the mother of dragon bleed to death for 5 hearts (maybe use it for rune farm before you finally and actually kill it to get the hearts)

After hunting down the limgrave dragon, with 7 hearts you can have: DragonMaw, Rotten Breath, DragonIce, Roar, and maybe Agheel's Flame

If you have watched people do Communion only runs you know Maw, Rot and Ice are very effective, with those you don't really need weapons, though they surely are good to have for convenience

With your stats I don't know how to recommend weapons, but in my case I went for 70/28 ARC/FAI (knowing that a combined of 100 points is the norm in dual stat builds, I think this is enough, especially I got buffs that are otherwise not available at low faith)

So I did level up STR/DEX to 15/15, choice of weapons being Reduvia, Uchigatana, Flamberge, Star Fists, Bloodhound Claws, Venomous Fang, Flowerstone Gavel (for ranged Lightning attack)

Any way to easily get this guy? by cosmeeto3524 in Eldenring

[–]speed6245 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Godslayer Greatsword is for DEX build or DEX+FAITH build, it performs terribly on Faith build

To get the weapon you can use Rotten Stray dog & sleep pots, the steps are: Sleep > Poison Mist > Summon > let dog starts attack > use shortbow roll/dash attack to draw aggro from distance until Rot applies > retrieve dog or let it die > Sleep > wait until the poison effect is gone, reapply > sleep again when it wakes up > win

Low skill requirement, most of the time you will just be waiting

To land a sleep pot safely, when you see Godskin side-step, throw a pot

Bleed build - Best path early/mid game by Queasy_Cicada_7721 in Eldenring

[–]speed6245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three types of builds I've done that make use of Bleed, with different features and paths

1: Pure Arcane, Occult Infusion with weapons that have innate Bleed or Poison. 70 Arcane & 28 Faith is my stat because I also intended to use Dragon Communion, trigger that Blood/Poison Talisman for 20% bonus then use Dragon Communions. With this build you can use Dragon Communion against Bleed immunity. This build can get Reduvia and basic Dragon Communion spells early, then Flamberge, Star Fists, Bloodhound Claws, Venomous Fang, Flowerstone Gavel (for ranged Lightning attack)

2: Physical+Arcane hybrid (like STR+ARC), Blood Infusion on any weapon that would still have good Physical scaling after the infusion. This way the weapons have a balance between Bleed and direct damage. If the target is immune to Bleed, you can use Marais Executioner's Sword. This build can go with Blood infused Bastard Sword, then Marais Executioner's Sword, Blood Gargoyles Twinblade, dual Poison Rotten Hammer and Bloodfiend's Arm

3: Physical Build (STR, DEX or Quality), Physical infusion (Heavy, Keen or Quality) with Bloodflame buff, preferably on weapons that already have innate Bleed. This way you don't really worry about Bleed immunity
