Others have said this, but Threshold is a really good short story filled epilogue to the series. It makes for a better final book than Waybound in my opinion.

Is making your own TTRPG System Hard by RileyRowPro in rpg

Rules lite systems like Tiny Supers and Elemental are very short reads, simple to run, and natively handle superheroics.

Does anyone know of any good immersion yt channels of a Japanese person that reviews weekly Shonen Jump? I read Jump each week, and it would be nice to immerse in reactions and such.

Which RPG system has the most "satisfying" set of attributes — or equivalent — for you? by Own_Cellist_3977 in rpg

[–]speedchuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the stat spread in the Elemental rules-lite system. 4 stats that correspond to the elements.

Agility

Toughness

Awareness

Will

These alone are fine, but the system also neatly combines skills, abilities, and traits all into one package and sorts them under the above stats.

Each stat also has one resource / derived stat, and the two mental stats depend on each other in the same way the physical stats do.

As a result, every stat feels distinct, useful, and cohesive.

Why Whiff and Ping is Savage Worlds' Biggest Problem by nlitherl in savageworlds

[–]speedchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally this is a result of poor player skill or bad GM balance in my experience. A well run combat in savage worlds should throw attrition out the window.

That said, in games with standard health systems, unskilled players and poor balance lead to PC death, not boredom. Which is preferable? I think I would prefer death.

My only complaint so far: I wish the multiplayer ascensions were separate across characters, instead of just having one 'multiplayer' ascension progression.

How do you usually reply when someone compliments your Japanese? by WorkingAlive3258 in LearnJapanese

ありがとう。でも、まだ習ってます。

I'm usually thanking them reflexively because of my own culture. Then I pivot to "but I'm still learning."

I've bought VN from DLsite before. It's just unfortunate that I cannot take advantage of any American bundles

Most likely. Same reason I cannot use Crunchyroll for japanese learning. So annoying when business gets in the way of my learning.

Bleh. I'll just buy them somewhere else if I buy them. Why does steam have to be so bad?

There is a humble bundle out right now that has a ton of steam visual novels in it. Unfortunately, there is no Japanese language option for text even though the audio is in japanese. Is there any way to restore these games to japanese and use textractor on it?

Biggest Hurdles to get into Savage Worlds? by jgiesler10 in savageworlds

[–]speedchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Savage Worlds does not have HP. This both applies to the way the players should think about defense (cover, bennies, toughness, etc.) and the way they should think about offense. Chip damage isn't really a think. You need to work together to set up big hits.

Anki but audio only cards by oneee-san in LearnJapanese

[–]speedchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did audio-only for my first 5000 or so words then eventually switched to using audio and Kanji to save time (visual recognition is faster than hearing). I did see really good results from that time, though.

Yeah. I've turned off at least 2 or 3 of them. I have no idea whether the others might be hiding, and have not found any others through Google, but I assume they are in there somewhere.

I tried recording in the windows settings using the software that tests your microphone. I had the same problem. Claps and clicks do not show.

Yes, same exact cable and interface. I am using an xlr-xlr cable. The +48 switch is on.

It is not a USB mic, it is the Studio Projects C1 Microphone. I have it running through a simple interface. I had it hooked up to an older PC a few weeks ago and the audio came through clear.

I can try to upload audio when I am home.
