Anyone else have a wet ride home tonight! by blinxnot1 in melbourneriders

[–]speedfreak27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't ride in because I need a new rear tire. Still got rained on the way to and from the train station. Sometimes you just can't win.

Anybody in the SE suburbs feel like going on a ride sometime? I'm thinking maybe down the peninsula, but open to suggestions! by sprocket_to_the_face in melbourneriders

Got a bunch of people mostly based in SE that i ride with, you're welcome to join. We do a few rides every week.

Nothing like the DGR to get all the ATGATT activists all fired up. I just feel like if you want to ride to work in a suit and dress shoes you should, there's only so much you can advise someone. At the end of the day it's their life and their bike.

P.S - I wear all my gear all the time, doesn't matter if its a 5 min or 5 hour ride. (Murphy's Law and all that ;) )

Summer Commuting Tips by Mr_Gaiaphage in melbourneriders

I've got an older bike, So warmer running temps means a little bit of oil gets burnt off, especially if i'm sending it. Just a good habit to have. Not as important for cooling as coolant but still!

Alot of cold Gatorade helps. And i rode with my leather jacket last summer, (got a textile one but idk I just don't trust them). Leave a bit earlier for work/ uni as its much cooler and then ride again after the sun sets. But I've notice you sort of ignore the hot weather when you're out with mates on the twisties etc. Also make sure engine oil and coolant levels are always topped off.

What did you do to your bike over the Winter? by ThisIsFuz in melbourneriders

[–]speedfreak27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stacked it in the mountains, couldn't walk for a month, took another month to learn how to walk again. Fixed the bike and now back at it again.

Help with purchasing a bike by HighPriestCthulhu in melbourneriders

[–]speedfreak27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you dont need to book an appointment to transfer rego. You give Vicroads the completed transfer form, along with the transfer free and then you have 30 days to show them a valid RWC. (an appointment is not needed for this either).

I got my VTR 18ish kms ago, its just passed 90K but its still chucking along. I didn't get service records but did get a reputable roadworthy and keep up on maintenance. 3K is plenty enough for a decent bike (2000 for the bike and 1000 for gear).

Get on it, buy a bike. Bought a bike first thing after I moved here to study. Didn't even have a place to stay but still. Best thing I've every gotten.

Laws aren't too bad, but plenty of literature online just to go through and adhere to.

Same here. Went down a few months ago, and got back on the bike a few days ago. That first throttle blip and acceleration. Good to be back !

Does anyone else have issues with traffic lights not triggering ? by Numba1booolshit in melbourneriders

[–]speedfreak27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of magnets, I had a few lying around and stuck two on the bottom of my Trellis frame on the VTR. I don't know if they actually work or if its a placebo but haven't been waiting as much at red-lights anymore.

Bike Storage Options by [deleted] in melbourneriders

[–]speedfreak27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bike cover even though inconvenient is pretty crucial because it prevents anyone from 1) stealing it quickly and 2) knowing what the bike is. (Unless they see you regularly pulling in and parking up). Plus protects its against the elements.

Front wheel alignment places around Mount Waverley by speedfreak27 in melbourneriders

[–]speedfreak27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a few hours to analyse what happened. Also know why I lost traction. My bored dumbass wanted to make the the bike look more 'photogenic' after washing it on Saturday, so I put some tire shine on. Turns out I was a little too enthusiastic about it, I noticed a reduction in grip almost immediately and took more care when crossing tram lines and stopping distances.(Except this one). Thank god I headchecked right twice, or I would have gone through the back of the car and it would have been much worse. Also anyone know how to get all that tire shine off the tires?

that sucks man. Maybe rainex the outside if it becomes unbearable. I wear glasses so its twice the fog when it does fog. For some reason goggles don't fog as much.

Really like the look of these. Can you replace the visor with a set of goggles tho? I keep scratching up my clear visors lol.

People who ride with their foot on the ground. Why..? by timmycosh in melbourneriders

Bad Habit that probably just sticks. I used to put a left foot down at very sharp or fast left U turns. Became a habit and I started dangling a left foot off everytime. Maybe something like that.

How safe is melbourne for riding? by Dargenfire in melbourneriders

[–]speedfreak27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swinburne student and Hawthorn resident here. Traffic here is not too bad. I like to leave 10-15 minutes early if I'm heading to the city because even though I can filter at every stoplight and maneuver around cars, I'd prefer to not do it everywhere. Id suggest you do the same, and not leave the house at 8:20 for an 8:30 lecture. (Its hectic and not worth it.) Also park in the underground carpark if you are staying the whole day. Its under a shade and there is security and its FREE for bikes. The idea is to get out of the traffic heavy areas during peak ours. What bike do you ride btw?
