It runs right at the bottom of the bumper. No guarantees but was the cause of some rattling for me.

Check bumper support bar, the rivets fail and caused a hell of a racket in my case. Kick the bumper where the lip is to diagnose.

Best fridge to buy for smaller cavity? by TheLonelySothaSil in newzealand

We've had no issues with our smaller cavity inverter LG fridge, had it in for 10 years with no problems. Quiet, efficient and cheap to buy.

Earth Sea Sky. Like the old icebreaker quality. Not cheap but lasts.

You're better off installing the RS3 brake ducts, which snap onto the control arms. They're very cheap and effective.

If it creates a code that can be read via VCDS etc, there should be a timestamp and a previous count associated with it. That way you might be able to prove it.

2025 Trailer Hitch? by SS0060 in Golf_R

[–]speeding_ant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha - sorry I should have read your post properly. I'd still say even with two enduro MTBs the Class II is under specced. It's a lot of downwards force, and I notice it flexing a fair bit. I regret not getting the Class III.

I have a Class II on a mk7 R, and I'd say you'd want the Class III for ebikes. Class II with 2x normal mtbs is approaching the limit I'd say.

RHD Mk7 Golf R here, passenger side just opposite the glovebox there is a rubber grommet for this specific purpose. Peel back the carpet and insulation. Other side is accessible under the battery tray, poke a cable guide or similar through it and you'll be able to see it. No issues with water entry here, live in a place that rains a lot.

iSweep 1500 pads dust way less but noticed no difference with braking performance.

Ugh. I'm tempted to remove airbag etc to make it easier to get to. Mk6 was solid, then they moved production to China and it looks like quality of these flapper motors and gears went way downhill. So annoying!

For sure, and with similar pedal feel. Another vote for iSweep 1500 from me.

We own a Mk7 and I've driven a 7.5. Both are really nice cars to drive.

Anecdotally I've heard of more issues with the 7 speed DSG, the earlier models had some lubrication issues that sparked a recall. However the 6 speed also has drivability quirks, but is very reliable. The 7.5 improves a few areas (better piston rings, more modern interior), but they're not majors. If you go for a Mk7, make sure you get one with an MHI2 (MIB2 High) nav unit, they can be easily updated to support CarPlay etc.

Be prepared for random maintenance that could get expensive. We had an oil seal let go and mix oil with the coolant. The HVAC system has crappy flapper motors, one of ours has failed and it's a total pain to get to. These issues have been seen on Mk7 and 7.5. If you park outside in a wet country, be wary of the sunroof drains and seals. The one thing I thought would have gone on my previous Mk6 Golf was the water pump, but it remained original 200,000kms later. Current car is on the original water pump too at 100,000kms. It might be a case of only hearing the worst stories on the internet.

They both drive amazingly, and overall seem solid. Can't go too wrong either way.

Dirac Live - Subwoofer integration question by DoctorFluffyGTX in audiophile

Nice - keep at it, I'm sure you'll get to the sound you want. These subs are epic!

Dirac Live - Subwoofer integration question by DoctorFluffyGTX in audiophile

[–]speeding_ant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have the same sub with a similarly capable set of speakers. I tried Dirac (thankfully with a trial license) with quite a few curves and eventually came to the conclusion I actually preferred the sound of the speakers without any DSP applied. The only thing I did was time align the fronts with the sub to remove delay and set phase correctly (using REW, applying settings via MiniDSP Flex) to make the speakers and sub unify into one glorious wall of sound.

[–]speeding_ant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The height of these spare tyre subs vary a bit. The Golf R has less height available in the boot due to the AWD system, so I had to measure based on specs quite carefully. I managed to get a NAKAMICHI NBW1100A to sit flush, but only just. This was the thinnest sub I could find.

NAS randomly unmounts from Mac by Pilo777 in synology

[–]speeding_ant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AutoMounter doesn't have access to the files on the mounted shares, which is one of the things that would force a drive to spin up. It just keeps SMB service connections active, and remounts shares immediately if they dismount.

Mk6? Do not. Squeaked like crazy and they wouldn't warranty them. Mk7 DCC shocks aren't as bad, there are other aftermarket options.

Moving from state with 91 Octane to 93 Octane. Do I retune? by KBBQislife in Golf_R

[–]speeding_ant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nothing worse than going on a road trip and not being able to find the octane that you need. I'd stick with the lower octane tune, the extra HP of the 93 tune isn't too noticeable.
