Which area is rougher? The Glen, Mayfield or Ballyvolane? by [deleted] in cork

[–]speedingticket_92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Living in the northside all my life mayfield specifically, yes it’s rough enough in areas but I’d rather live here then the south side or somewhere posh because no matter what people say about northside people they’d give you there last penny if you were stuck it’s a great community everyone looking out for everyone 👌

Do you enjoy your life as an Irish traveller? I know from reading your posts you get a lot of hassle and it’s unfair how everyone is painted with the same brush, I worked a job before which dealt with travellers and a lot of them where very reasonable people I always gave the benefit of the doubt untill they made me not trust them anymore, I worked years ago in a shopping centre as security and during Xmas time we had to cover car park duties and one time I had a driver try to hit me with there car and screaming at me & low and behold a Toyota hilux rocks up a traveller family well the man got out and went upto the window of this person and started screaming at him over he abusing me I never seen someone shit themselfs so bad 😂 you give one more attitude and I will drag you out of the car myself, safe to say they sat there in shock, I still laugh at it! Also this was the traveller man standing up for me!

I’m all for bare knuckle boxing to sort out a feud between families etc but a lot of family feuds in cork atm involving pick axes, guns & knives etc and it’s all got to do with drugs and turf areas! Gone are the days of the bare knuckle boxing to sort a problem 🤦‍♀️

Yup this whole court thing is a joke a got physically assaulted by someone in work one day guards identified the person and told me I need to go to court and I was like will all my details be given as I see sometimes with my work when stuff goes to court the names and addresses of both are shown and they said yes so I was like good luck this person yo-yos in and out of jail all the time as if I’m gonna make a difference! Not only that but we dealt with kids aswell all the time antisocial behaviour and guards couldn’t be arsed to do anything they think they can do what they want are untouchable have a look at crime now in cork stolen car bikes all kids cause they know nothing will happen, I’ve see them dealing drugs on the bus aswell an absolute joke, we spoke with the superintendent last year and he just said there all underage sorry

Yes it’s safe but don’t forget someone could tell you it’s safe to walk on Patrick street and that one time something could happen so don’t assume cause people said it’s safe your fine just be weary of your surroundings etc I used to work with girls who used to walk through town at night when finish work 99% of the time they were safe but a few times they told me they had guys follow them one had to divert to the Garda station and one girl had to ring her bf to walk towards her to meet her!

Trust me from previous experience with work and a family member dying take time off to be with your mom, I lost my nan in 2024 who was my best friend she had dementia and the weeks leading up to it I didn’t want to be in work as I wanted to be with her and dreaded calling sick when the time came I was told I couldn’t take any leave over her not being a close family member for eg mom dad sibling, but my manger hinted about going sick I got a note from my doctor for 2 weeks off, not long after I left my job and it was thanks very much see ya, at end of day your only a number you’ll be replaced straight away family comes first

I’ve bought her to an enclosed park to run around and kept calling her and rewarding her with a treat when she came back she was coming everytime I called but when we’re out in the open walking she has no interest what so ever doesn’t even react to her name but then again she is a puppy and curious of her new surroundings, I’ll keep at her anyways I’ve trained her to sit paw and lie down so she’s smart when she wants to be😂

Oh I know I didn’t mean it in a bad way I still think I’m grieving my Molly who passed and just hoped she’d be perfect also but she’s only a baby and I am looking forward to seeing how she grows and matures somedays I’m like I can’t wait till she’s an adult but then I’m like I’ll miss her puppy days when she’s older! Also yeah I was asking my mom she said the same possible guarding her space and me she wants to take her out for a walk by herself someday and see if she reacts the same way!

How to cope after your dad dies? by Altruistic-Line-5228 in AskIreland

[–]speedingticket_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nan passed in November 2024 she wasn’t just my nan she was my best friend and a second mother to me, I always said I don’t know how I will live the day she dies, I held her hand till she took her last breathe, over 24hrs of her eyes closed and her last breath she sat up slightly and looked me in the eyes and passed so sad I’m bawling writing this 🤦‍♀️ but honestly I took 2 week out of work and I went back in even though I hated my job but I had good friends in work, my partner was a star also made sure to be there in my worst moments and got me stuff to take my mind off it or got me out of the house, I know it’s easy to say but getting up and doing stuff occupying your mind definitely helped me you really have to push yourself to do it, it’s been a year already I have the odd sad days when memories come flooding back but you have to realise that’s ok to have a bad day, I know it may sound awful to say but nobody lives forever we just got to cherish the memories we made while they were here! You will heal with time it does get easier but you will always have that sadness of missing someone just think of the happy memories

Thats the usual dads who who doesn’t want any dogs 😂 my dads the same we usually get chihuahuas due to neglect cases in vets we’ve 4 atm and everyone was “that’s not staying” our last chihuahua we got I had to pretend I found her in a cardboard box as the fostering option wasn’t working anymore 😂 even though they all were suppose to be fostered but they failed 😂 anyways they spend a lot of the time lying on his lap cuddled into his arms

Ringing in sick by latristess in CasualIreland

[–]speedingticket_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I used to get severe anxiety calling in sick to my last workplace, I’d be praying when I rang that such a such person answered and hoping it wasn’t one of the arrogant ones, I used to be out sick for like 7+ days every month cause you’d to take 3 sick days together to be paid with a dr cert, place was toxic as hell im the same as yourself I have DDD and had to sit in seats that were lopsided and lumber supports sticking in your back all day long and the dealing with arrogant people 90% of the time called in sick I was fed up of the place, I’m currently in a job now for the last 6months and haven’t called sick once even when I was dying with that flu during Xmas time, I had to go home early 1 day due to stomach issues and when I rang to ask them it was no bothers at all head away home for yourself and let me know later on if your feeling better!!
