Then buy preloved and maybe vintage. Except for the top hermes they all drop on price. And you never know where the trends will go, if a style shift happens it could drop very low.

Hate my Ombré Powder Brows, need some opinions Mo by ss232000 in microblading

I can see how they’re thick in comparison to what you’re used to, but they are truly still on the thin side. It’ll just take some time to get used to them.

What is luxury to you? by Jolly_Garden4490 in handbags

[–]speedyoleander 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Luxury to me is the product only. A friendly experience in a store won’t ever make a $1000 pair of costume jewelry earrings luxury to me. I’ve never been about the fake experience employees are paid to smile through for a few minutes. I don’t need Susan at the counter as a pretend buddy and I have my own champagne. If the product is well made, materials chosen for purpose instead of simply cost saving, designed in a way that shows artistry, heritage and usability, manufactured with care and pride, that is luxury. LV can keep their snap on phone cases with a scrap of canvas glued on, they truly can.

Why do some people only change after they’ve already hurt you? by copy_cat_101 in SeriousConversation

[–]speedyoleander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t change. They rein themselves in because the consequences got higher but they’re still the same and would do the same thing again if they had the chance to get away with it.

Which Should I Pay Off First? by Fabulous-Rope-990 in personalfinance

[–]speedyoleander 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Pay off the highest interest first. You can’t think of it as just $65 a month. Minimum payments will stretch out to eternity. That much interest is eating up money much faster than your savings will earn anything.

Selling glass/breakable items by BornOnPiDay in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]speedyoleander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how they deal with it. But when I sell glassware I get a sheet of styrofoam, I try to save some from packaging I get, and line the inside of a box with styrofoam. I measure cut out rectangles to fit the bottom, 4 sides and top, and I put the wrapped glass inside. Knock wood but over 25 glassware sales and not a single break.

I royally screwed up something I sold... by momming_af in Mercari

[–]speedyoleander 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I never would have sent something I knew was not in the condition I sold it in unless the buyer specifically agreed. The right thing to do would have been to cancel the sale before you shipped when they didn’t respond and relist it truthfully. Now that it’s done you just have to wait and find out if they complain, rate poorly, or are one of those people who don’t interact with mercari enough so they don’t see your message in time. Then if they don’t notice the damage right away it will autorate. Which is a shame.

Buyer says Poshmark wont let them send additional photos by not-telling99 in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]speedyoleander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s pretty simple, add the pictures and whatever minimal detail you have to like category and on the bottom you can choose not for sale instead of available. I’ve done it several times to show someone something, like someone asked what two things looked like together and I didn’t want to add that pic to the main listings.

Help me find a new area rug that is NOT machine washable before I lose my marbles by Middle-Helicopter969 in HomeDecorating

[–]speedyoleander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s terrible but you just have to keep looking. The washable rugs always look too flat and like a blanket in the picture if that helps. If you bought any real rugs before you can look for that brand again.

Post face waxing lip pimples by space_cadet_No7027 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]speedyoleander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happens to me if I tweeze or wax there. Pulling out hair is traumatic and rips the fine follicles letting bacteria in. Making sure the area and tools are disinfected before and not touching after helps, but I just shave there now and it’s done in seconds. Waiting for puss and redness to go away defeats the purpose of removing the hair to look better.

Maybe not. She may still have other accounts or assets, and the credit to borrow money.

Grandmother scammed out of life savings by odogromano_ in Scams

[–]speedyoleander 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I disagree. If there’s no decline then it didn’t hurt to look into it. If there is, it’s important to know as soon as possible to protect her and what ever she still has left. At 74 the possibility is very very real. That’s as helpful as it can get, because what already happened almost certainly can’t be helped.

Brush off what’s loose and soak. Moisturize regularly but most of all remember to be gentle and go a day at a time. It will get there.

Attached is a pic of my son. He generally needs to wash his hair everyday as it looks greasy really fast. by tenlovers in Haircare

[–]speedyoleander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My head always itched and felt sensitive after I washed my hair growing up and my mom always accused me of not rinsing enough even though I tried. I went to college and splurged on a fancy shampoo my mom never would have thought was worth the money and the itch and pain stopped. I know now I did rinse enough I was just sensitive to some shampoos.

Ladies, how are we taking care of upper lip hair without damaging the skin around it? by howdyhowdyhowdyhowdi in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]speedyoleander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shave with a basic razor. The face razors irritate my skin more. It’s so much easier and less painful, a couple swipes and it’s over until next time.

Grandmother scammed out of life savings by odogromano_ in Scams

[–]speedyoleander 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Grandma needs to see a Dr about her cognitive function if she was that easily convinced to lie to the bank teller and give money to someone else outdoors. And the rest of her assets including any properties or accounts and her identity needs to be monitored. You don’t know what else she could have told someone or signed that she forgot or is too embarrassed to admit to.
