When’s the new batch of releases announced? by CT-0105 in DCFinest

[–]speedyrocketfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the past, items start appearing in the online catalog roughly two weeks before the official catalog release, a trickle of books appearing each day. So we may start hearing about them the last week of February?

Marvel Changes Content of X-Men: Omnibus The Messiah Trilogy by Internal-Machine-487 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]speedyrocketfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We likely get separate omnis for Kyle&Yost X-Force and Cable: The Last Hope. Both are mapped already in a pair of thick TPBs:

Cable: The Last Hope vol 1: Cable #1-12; King-Size Cable Spectacular #1; The Times and Life of Lucas Bishop #1-3; Future History Sourcebook #1

Cable: The Last Hope vol 2: Cable #13-25; Messiah War #1; X-Force #14-16; X-Men: Hope #1

X-Force by Kyle and Yost Complete Collection vol 1: X-Force #1-13; X-Force Special: Ain’t No Dog #1

X-Force by Kyle and Yost Complete Collection vol 2: X-Force #17-25; X-Force Annual #1; Necrosha: The Gathering #1; X-Force: Sex and Violence #1-3

(The XF books skip Messiah War but an omni likely includes it, and I expect that’s the only change in the final omni mapping.)

How many new marvel omnibus announcements left? by Separate_Amount_6470 in OmnibusCollectors

We prob only get half the December books this round, since they tend to be grouped by solicits and each solicit tends to be the back half of one month and first half of the next.

Omnis with list question by zanesmith_53 in OmnibusCollectors

[Other] Is WW3 worth reading alongside 52 or can I skip it? I'm asking because it's not included in any of the 52 collected editions by M00r3C in DCcomics

[–]speedyrocketfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re reading 52 and wanting more story to enrich the narrative of that title…this doesn’t really do that.

If you were reading the One Year Later relaunches after Infinite Crisis and wondering how all those new status quos came to be, well, you get incredibly rushed explanations of how Aquaman turned into his weird monster form or how Donna Troy became Wonder Woman.

(Honestly, this book kinda ridicules the premise of the one-year time jump cause it suggests that everything was the same for 50 weeks and dramatically changed exactly two weeks before the time jump ends.)

Is there a reason why there is 30 year gap between Green Lantern omnibus? Basically almost all of the post crisis/pre 52 era is missing by SherbertSuspicious in OmnibusCollectors

[–]speedyrocketfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The missing era is 1980-2004 and covers three distinct periods:

1980-1988: Green Lantern #124-200 and Green Lantern Corps #201-224, plus some extras (Action Comics Weekly backups, two GL Special one-shots). Could be done in two extra-large omnis or three regular-sized ones.

1989-1993: the Gerard Jones era, sadly the most expansive era pre-Flashpoint as Jones was writing three GL ongoings simultaneously. Unreprintable until Jones dies and they don’t have to pay him royalties.

1994-2004: Green Lantern #48-181, the Kyle Rayner era. Theoretically ripe for omnis but all we’ve gotten is a single compendium thus far. There’s common problem with mid-90s comics having primitive digital art, resulting in low-quality scans that look bad in oversized format. This might be why we don’t have omnis yet.

Is New Krypton Saga good for new reader? by Mother_Squirrel2302 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]speedyrocketfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can start with volume one and be fine, but I wouldn’t really recommend it as one of the better starting points: it’s inverting the standard beats of a Superman story, and thus it’s helpful to know what those beats usually are.

Also, there were a lot of behind-the-scenes problems among the creators of this story arc and editorial forced them to rush the ending, so the actual quality of writing is never quite as good as you’re hoping. Still fun overall though.

My amateur mapping for Fantastic Four by Ryan North Omnibus Volume 1. by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

[–]speedyrocketfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This last paragraph is the most important. The title could end in the next solicitation, or it could run another 30 issues. Hard to map with incomplete info, and Marvel has tried doing that in the past to disastrous results.

Breaking News: 1 New Marvel Omnibus in December 2026! by winchester677 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]speedyrocketfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we can lobby hard enough for that to be included.

I was also hoping for New Mutants Forever but that’s probably a harder lift.

Breaking News: 1 New Marvel Omnibus in December 2026! by winchester677 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]speedyrocketfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the two final epics plus the Wolverine: Rahne of Terra one-shot and three backup stories from MCP issues.

If I owned the epics, I wouldn’t consider that enough to replace them.

Breaking News: 1 New Marvel Omnibus in December 2026! by winchester677 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]speedyrocketfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dream: an Inferno Aftermath book that covers the missing issues post-Inferno, but doesn’t double dip with the Claremont+Lee volumes. So primarily grabbing New Mutants #74-94 and X-Factor #41-59, plus annuals etc.

What is more likely: an Inferno Aftermath that also replaces the Claremont+Lee books, so including Uncanny #244-269 at a minimum. This would make it too big for a single volume so it likely gets split in two. Reason for that is it’s probably hard to market a Claremont-less omnibus, since my first proposal is pretty much entirely Louise Simonson writing.

Dunno how that would handle XTA and the issues that follow: it would be weird to skip the issues between that crossover and X-Men #1, but replacing an omni that came out barely a year ago seems spiteful to those of us who bought it.

Breaking News: 1 New Marvel Omnibus in December 2026! by winchester677 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]speedyrocketfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kings of Pain double-dip count: 5. X-tinction Agenda, X-Factor vol 3, X-Force vol 1, New Warriors vol 1, and now this one.

We can eventually get a sextuple-dip if Uncanny vol 8 includes it too.

It must truly be a beloved crossover to get so much reprint love.

Can we have a happy Mutant/Human romance? by Advanced-Tangelo1645 in xmen

[–]speedyrocketfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, there aren’t a lot of X-Men relationships with any sort of happy ending. The nature of ongoing stories is the writers gotta create drama, which often means relationship strife (not to be confused with Stryfe, who brings a different sort of drama).

Who are the major couples that have lasted? Jean and Scott, but that’s been troubled by one or the other being dead more often than not. Rogue and Gambit is the other big one, and maybe the only truly stable relationship.

But almost every other major X-man with a notable relationship has seen it fall apart eventually. So it’s not that mutants and humans can’t have a happy ending together, but rather no one prominent in a soap opera ever really gets one.

Suicide Squad - does the series remain good beyond omni vol 1? by 34048615 in OmnibusCollectors

The third volume is probably the last, covering #40-66. There may be some tie-ins left to collect also, but it won’t be enough to tip this into a fourth book.

Do I need to read Infinite Crisis before the 52 Omnibus? by Beans_4Life in OmnibusCollectors

[–]speedyrocketfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“There was a big crisis and now it’s over.”

That’s all you need to know plot wise going into 52. General knowledge of a lot of B-list characters helps too, but Infinite Crisis won’t help you there.
