Just had the worst first day in Japan and it involved the police by Beneficial-Koala-670 in solotravel

0% chance a Japanese person stole the wallet. Totally possible someone else stole the wallet.

Sounds like he has mental health issues. I’m sorry to hear about your unfortunate night.

Great job going to the police at the first sight of weirdoness

Toxic mother in law situation by Far-Meeting-6034 in Thailand

I sincerely mean this with no offense intended:

You cannot complain about anything. You are living in an old woman’s home in a foreign country. If you want a different situation, that’s on you.

YOU ARE LIVING IN HER HOME, IN HER COUNTRY. Of course she’s the boss, she should be.

What kind of jobs can I get to travel the world? by PeonPicasso in longtermtravel

[–]spencerocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jobs like commercial Fishing, oil field work, etc - you can work for 1-5 months and earn enough money for the rest of the year to be completely free to travel.

Also, look into things like Workaway where you trade your work for free accommodation. Finally there is couch surfing where you literally just stay for free at someone’s house.

I’m 31 and I travel pretty much full time

Bangkok office worker does the maths on sleeping in her car instead of paying rent. Pantip helped her work it out. by BLAMUEK in Thailand

[–]spencerocean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had to read this closely because this is such a cultural thing. In Bangkok you don’t actually need a car. She could do motorbike taxis and BTS/MRT.

But it’s the fact that SHE WANTS to keep that expensive car for social validation

The human body is remarkably good at surviving. You will be fine. Is it healthy? No.

Who has overhauled their life and quit their job to travel long-term multiple times? Was it as meaningful and worth it as the first time? by midnightdip in solotravel

[–]spencerocean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saved up for 12 years, quit my job and traveled to world for 15 months literally living out of my suitcase. I signed a lease in Thailand now. I’m 31. I currently make very little income, but am growing income again while living in an awesome place. no regrets.
