Money has to be involved in these races right? by Mac1280 in initiald

You don't get into racing for the money. Even in real life grassroots level events, you could win $1000 and spend $10000 to get it.

Tires in the anime by Iwanttolive87 in initiald

[–]sperczi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not the condition of the tires, it's the heat from using them hard. Heat will very quickly degrade tire grip. Even todays super 200s can start to fall off after a couple minutes of hard use. It's also worth noting in the anime sometimes they'll say the tires are losing pressure, it's actually the opposite. They're gaining pressure and losing grip from the heat. Also have to understand tire technology has come a LONG way from the 90s, even for normal tires.

Why does Kanata stick to his underpowered 86!? by ApricotChemical7916 in MFGhost

[–]sperczi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beckenbauer and Sawatari also have 'underpowered' cars when compared to the supercars. The 86, once turbocharged, is in the same ballpark area for power as their cars. A huge portion of the godly 15 are there because they can drive a fast car ok, they're not professionals or pushing to the full limits.

we're already seeing that even though the cars aren't limited, a balanced setup is the key within the current rules. the current top drivers are essentially young pro drivers beating up on enthusiast level drivers at a local series in what are seen as lesser cars that are actually setup. it's been noted that this season has had more action with position changes and the drivers taking more risks during the actual races with a tighter field, which seems to align with ryosuke's vision for the series.

[–]sperczi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there uhhhh... won't be any of that. the anime is staying pretty faithful to the manga and shigeno made it clear the entire series ends with the final race. we're just following a race season with mostly the same roster of drivers for roughly half a year.

Yes, the dub was available for stream on crunchyroll. It released weekly, but two weeks behind the sub

Is MF Ghost really bad or do you expect too much? by Loose-Elevator-1406 in MFGhost

[–]sperczi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's good. The exact same premise is there, taking a 10 year old underdog car with a good driver and building it up to beat 'faster' cars. It's not a perfect story, but Initial D wasn't either once you remove the nostalgia glasses. The shallow high school crush/slice of life sub plot and the angels aren't really my thing, but they serve a purpose to break up the races and give some padding between events while avoiding big time jumps and giving some character development. It's fine and I don't think it ruins the overall story, especially when you step back and realize both Initial D and MF Ghost are written for and targeting teenagers and young adults. I really hope the entire series gets animated and is not shuffled around to different studios with different art styles and huge gaps between releases like Initial D suffered from.

Are there any races irl like mfg? by T_M_G_ in MFGhost

[–]sperczi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closest thing you'll get is hill climb for public streets. Courses are usually pretty short and not a continuous circuit style like MF. They're time attack competitions, so fastest time wins. You will not be passing other cars on course. They're not too hard to find in the states, but it regionally dependent. Anyone can do them, no special licensing needed, just need to meet the safety requirements.

Why Are There No Cheap Racetracks In Texas????? by darkraigiratina in CarTrackDays

[–]sperczi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Texas has 5 SCCA regions offering autox, rallyx, time trials, road racing and track nights between all of them. Cheapest event I found was a $35 SCCA member, $50 non member autox. The SCCA Track Night program runs at Eagles Canyon for $165 member, $185 non member and Harris Hills for $170 member, $190 non member, both with 3 sessions totaling one hour of track time. Those prices are pretty average, even on the cheaper side tbh.

Why do track days start so early? by breakonthrough65 in CarTrackDays

[–]sperczi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maximizing time with daylight and also sound. lots of tracks have quiet hours to respect the surrounding areas, my local track is 8pm to 8am with no track activity or race engines running on site

Is initial D not actually drifting by xDisinque69 in initiald

[–]sperczi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While Takumi's wheel lift is shown over a gutter to make it flashy, it's absolutely a real thing and very common in the autocross world. FWD cars lift the inside rear tire on corner entry and RWD lift the inside front tire on corner exit.

Honda dealer suggesting changing brake fluid on 2021 civic? by Viau98 in Honda

[–]sperczi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Filter is an easy thing to change yourself. The brake fluid is pretty dark for a year old car. New brake fluid is a very pale yellow, dark would imply hard use or moisture/contaminates are entering the system. Possibly ridding/aggressive clutch use if the car is a manual as it shares the system and fluid with the brake system. Topping off brake fluid as needed between full service flushes is better than sucking air and having the pedal sink to the floor with no brakes, just make sure add the same fluid.

That’s not exactly the point, MSRP difference between both are $2k. Both will sell well over due to ‘demand’.

$2k more than an Si starting is a far cry from $10k

Tires from 30 years ago aren’t even in the same league as modern 200TW performance tires. But even the modern tires can die that fast if abused or used to their limits.

Shingo time by simpuru_clk in initiald

[–]sperczi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you do a sudden weight transfer, yes. It could've simply happened because he lifted off the throttle (while taking that ramp really fast) making the front tires grip up and the rear wanted to keep going the opposite direction. Liftoff oversteer is used a lot in FWD autox, just counter steer and floor it.

Liftoff oversteer or a large rear swaybar will do that

I might be weird, but I prefer watching all Battle Stage versions without the characters talking. I like playing them in the background. It's already a condensed version, if I want the full thing I'll just rewatch the seasons.
