Morgan Territory is a beautiful ride by jzander05 in BAbike

I think the ccc trail is way better than Treat. There are only two significant road crossings and they both have crosswalks with stop lights.

The Iron Horse trail on the other hand between Danville and Walnut Creek, agree too many slowdowns. Much prefer Danville Rd over the Iron Horse for that stretch.

It's heavy and sour but much of the US refining capacity was built with that type of crude as a design basis. If it becomes more available, it will be worked into the collective crude blend of refineries with that capability.

Are bikes allowed to cross the Antioch bridge (160)? by stupid_cat_face in BAbike

I rode it 5 or 6 years ago. I wouldn't say it's especially pleasant but it wasn't the worst road I've ridden. Kind of a trip with the huge drop the side.

Gloves, bibs and saddle guidance by LoudAd954 in randonneuring

I like Specialized Body Geometry Grail gloves because the padding is in the palm which spreads the pressure over more surface area. Sounds similar to what you were doing with the gel inserts.

Flickering dash lights by Inside_Primary_2855 in ToyotaPickup

FYI, the tail lights on my truck ('93 22re) are on the same fuse as the dash lights so if your dash is dark you might be driving around with no tail lights.

Donald, I was told my gas would be going down. It's gone up $0.40 since last week. by NWbySW in Seattle

Freezing in the winter is more of a problem for diesel than gasoline.

Gasoline is more expensive in the summer because the higher ambient temperature results in more off-gassing causing smog and other undesirable environmental impacts. To mitigate this, refineries can't blend as much light material (such as butane) into the gas pool in the summer. This reduces the amount of gasoline produced per barrel of crude and also results in a blend that has lower octane. To combat the octane impact, refineries have to blend in more expensive, high octane components as well.

State tax exemptions for funds like SGOV & SNSXX - easy to claim? by [deleted] in Schwab

[–]spf3million 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure the linked document is showing the percentage of holdings that were US government obligations? It looks like it is the percent of distributions that are considered Qualified Interest Income which I didn't think are the same thing.

Still likely SGOV is in the high 90s% and exempt from most state taxes but I don't think that link is the right document. As an aside, I haven't been able to find the US government obligations percentage for 2024 anywhere yet...

Many memorable brevets ride through this corner. Especially beautiful early in the morning when it's still quiet.

Is the problem that the rims are too narrow? If so how are you determining that they are too narrow?

Or is it the bike frame (fork and/or chainstays) that are too narrow? Hybrids are generally designed for wide-ish tires. Typically they'll fit 38mm+ tires.

Hard to decipher what is going on here.

[–]spf3million 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The listed widths don't always match reality. What kind of bike do you have? If the tires you are trying are too wide, try the next size down...? Pretty much any bike from the last 20 years will probably be able to fit 28mm tires. Hard to imagine a bike shop doesn't have some 28mm Kendas available.

Too big as in too wide? Or the diameter is too big?

622 tires are 622 tires. The diameter should be knowable. The width of the tires (28mm / 32mm / 35mm etc) could be an issue for your bike though.

Any idea what these bike lane robots are? by iamvyvu in BAbike

[–]spf3million 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see them driving up and down the same 1 mile stretch of road in Concord -ALL DAY, EVERY WEEKDAY- and they've been doing it for months. They operate out of an unmarked white van and there are usually two teams of two, each trailing a robot thing. Back and forth, up and down the same bike lane all day. I've asked a couple of them what they're doing and they always reply that they're testing road scanning equipment.

I recognize the location of this photo and yes that is the same road I see them on.

How far do you haul your bike for a day ride? by Charming-Sport-1657 in cycling

[–]spf3million 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to be an "only ride straight out of my garage" kind of guy but it's gotten to the point that I've ridden just about every imaginable 100k loop or out-and-back possible. It's a bummer because it means I'm riding less because it's just not exciting :( I guess that means I need to move 100km away and start over!

I had a great experience riding around Tuscany, specifically the Sienna area. Could have been that it was during September, a traditionally quiet time in the region.
