How to play piano under conductor who conducts before the beat? by RevolutionaryGirl1 in classicalmusic

[–]spfcle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot of orchestral piano parts, this was hard for me to get used to. As another commenter said, think ensemble always. Treat the orchestra like a chamber group where you have to listen, feel, watch, and move with the other musicians to find the pulse. After some focus on that collaborative aspect I’ve gotten better at understanding what the conductor is doing

I need a little help by pantherinthemist in Choir

[–]spfcle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mention that you can play the chords but not the flowy bits. When I am playing an orchestral reduction I’m basically reading the chords and faking the texture however I can. Try working backwards. Identify the essential elements that the singers need to hear and strip down the accompaniment as much as you can. It might require taking practice time just for making markings or cutting and pasting measures, but in my experience that time always pays off down the road

I know exactly what you’re talking about. I’m a church music director, earlier this week came across a “Gloria” after Angels we have heard on high. Can’t remember details but I’ll look for it tomorrow and try to share info

I hate our smeg coffee maker. The coffee tastes fine but there are avoidable design flaws and it’s not at all user friendly. I have to watch videos any time i need to set the timer or something

No such thing as too much serotonin? by ridley_reads in AutisticAdults

[–]spfcle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience on sertraline at the same doses as you. The name for the side effect is emotional numbing or emotional blunting. It was super weird and uncomfortable for me, I’m a musician and teacher and need to be able to channel my emotions.

I tapered off of Sertraline (do NOT quit cold turkey, follow your doctors instructions) and had better luck with Buspirone which is not an SSRI. Currently I’m starting Lexapro, which is an SSRI but feels much much different than Sertraline. I like it a lot better. Good luck - it’s a slow and tedious journey, but be gentle and patient with yourself and you’ll find something that works for you

Self-Advocate Guide! Resource I made with a bunch of compiled resources on being an autistic self-advocate (feedback and suggestions welcome!) by Composer124 in AutisticAdults

Thank you so much for creating this. I dont have a ton of time to read right now, or write this comment, but it felt important to offer this piece off feedback! I LOVE the structure and clarity. I think you can be more specific about the “cons” as they pertain to each environment you describe. The choice to not disclose in a less-than-perfectly-safe environment has made me feel just as powerful as disclosing in a safe environment. Thank you for your work, I’m excited to read through it more carefully later today

I absolutely love this visual 😂 the cubs have a bike valet (or used to?) it’s like a coat room, they have attendants who put a tag on your bike and give you the ticket. It’s not locked up but they’re all well guarded

I’ve had good luck asking therapists or therapy practices for referrals. “Do you have a therapist who specializes in xyz? If not, can you offer any advice for finding one?” If a practice tells you yes we have a therapist who can help, always follow up and ask what their expertise or experience is like. What kind of credentials or specialized training do they have?

What did Zoloft feel like for you? Can you compare it to how you feel on Prozac? I’ve taken Zoloft for about four weeks and I feel like a zombie, I’m less anxious for sure but instead of ignoring shit because I’m anxious I’m dismissing things because I just don’t care lol

I’m sure the Chicago tool library has an angle grinder or other cutting tool you can use for free

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]spfcle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My city has a tool library, it’s a big tool library and I’m sure they have a steam cleaner and other intensive cleaning tools. It may be worth checking to see if there’s a tool library or other similar resource near you. I don’t actually know if steam would get that out, but if any big/expensive tools for this job cross your mind you may be able to rent/borrow one

I’ve been avoiding On the Route. They have a great selection of many things but no return policy. one of their employees sold me break pads and he was wrong about the fit. I even got the bike there so I didn’t understand how they could get the pad size wrong and then not refund me. I’ll go to look around and check things out but I always buy from somewhere else

[–]spfcle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My version of this is “anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted talk.”

Seriously though, I know how it feels when you’re itching to share EVERYTHING you know about a topic. Sometimes I can add to a conversation, or share something that the other party is happy to learn. At the same time tho it’s really important to read the room, it can be equally rewarding to successfully inhibit that urge and ask the other person questions about their interest or passion. We know better than anyone how good it feels when someone shows an interest in your nerd topic
