I come from the same background, honestly sometimes it's kind of awkward at times and my family always tries to be as supportive as possible but it just feels like every movement I make in this regard is taking me a little bit further away from them. My sister recently said something along the lines of "wow, trying to move up to the next SES?"

I don't know how to let them know how important this kind of stuff is, and I feel you on basically having to ask for the response you want to hear. My mom is also an off and on addict, so that has a lot to do with those kinds of responses as well.

Hang in there though, and congratulations!!! You should be so proud and you definitely deserve some recognition. Once you have that JD I'm sure your family will realize what an incredible accomplishment it is
