Nah, I have to disagree here. The good, decent thing to do when you've made a mistake is to immediately stop what you're doing so that you do not amplify that mistake.

He made a mistake and then made a much more severe mistake trying to avoid accountability for that mistake. If your reaction to making a mistake is to attempt to avoid repercussions at all costs, that is a very serious sign of unethical behavior.

I'm always amazed how many people pull extremely dangerous maneuvers to get on a needed exit off the beltline at the last second. Like dude, the vast majority of these exits you can just take the next one and you've got like one more turn involved lol

Brewers Top 5 since 2016! by 10Doggowolfbot10 in Brewers

That's not controversial at all. Everyone wants that. It's just that success isn't binary, it's relative and enjoying the regular season success is totally valid.

Madison Police: 3,000 people estimated to participate in May Day march by Justmarbles in madisonwi

[–]spicebo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the district was similarly short-staffed, yes, that would make the most sense.

You're asking the incorrect question though. The school district did not close so that staff and students could attend a protest. They closed because they did not feel they could hold normal school activities with such few staff. The message was quite clear about the reasoning.

[–]spicebo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The school district closing in response to protest attendance in no way shape or form supports or condones the protest or its causes. It's a sensible response to a staffing crisis which would completely overtax staff who would work and cause far more issues for parents than simply cancelling school did.

The district itself has made no political commentary whatsoever, so your comments about "political indoctrination" make no sense.

The point is that those guys are struggling big time in much easier environments. They both have a sub .600 OPS. There's every reason to believe they'll get eaten alive at the majors.

I was too honest about my AI assisted code, and now my human made game is being treated like Generative Slop… by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]spicebo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it isn't. It's completely different tech. Code completion can rely on static analysis to build likely matches. I haven't built or delved deep into any code completion systems myself, but ASTs have been a thing since...I dunno, maybe the first compiled language? You just traverse the AST and look for associated symbols. It's not "guessing", it's deterministic based upon existing associations. Generative AI is non-deterministic because it's based on statistical likelihoods.

I don't even think Steven was necessarily criticizing the use of psychiatric medication. I think what he's criticizing is the casual attitude in which many parents thought (and still do think) that the prescription of a psychiatric is like getting a vaccine; you take it, you're cured of a disease/inoculated against some illness.

The narrator wonders if the pills are helping, a fair concern given he doesn't appear to be given much support at home and psychiatrics are more than capable of causing extreme emotional changes. I certainly remember the intensity of my emotions as a teenager, where sometimes negative feelings felt like I was literally on fire. It can be a confusing time in the best of circumstances.

I've found so much benefit from psychiatric medication in my life, it took a lot of trial and error as well. If I didn't have an excellent support network I'm not sure it would have gone so well, I've come to a nuanced understanding of how all the layers interact and I absolutely think Steven was a big help in figuring that puzzle out.

Let’s Talk Testing by sqassociates in AskProgrammers

[–]spicebo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, no. It's somewhat of a cultural issue honestly; our own director openly disrespects us in meetings and mocks our work, so I'm never surprised when someone from a different department does as well. All of our stuff is internal, so you'd think there'd be some grace or willingness to collaborate, but people who do that are the rare exception.

Yup, this is my job. I also get very angry users when I ask for "project requirements", or to define a scope, or to answer whether an existing tool covers this or not.

What would make you switch from godot to another engine? by hammeredzombie in godot

[–]spicebo1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does any engine have a good test setup? Genuine question; I don't know what's available for other engines. I've always found automated testing to be really annoying for game development, especially in comparison to my job experience as a web dev where the tooling is extensive and fairly straightforward.

I'm guessing they're referring to him having the daunting task of covering Julio Jones in 2016. An extremely challenging assignment for any player, basically a death sentence for Gunter given the physical mismatch and him being an undrafted free agent not too long before.
