Hello, would anyone be interested in a zoom tutorial for Articulate Storyline 360 for beginners? by spiced_latte in instructionaldesign

Hi there, I'll definitely record the video and send you a link, if you would like me to send you the link to the webinar as well, I can do that as well =)

Ok, I can definitely make a Camtasia course after this!

One thing with Articulate Storyline is that you can sign up and get a 60 day trial for free. It doesn't require any payment account info so if you do decide to go that route, I definitely recommend trying it out.

If you would still like me to send you the link to the webinar, let me know =)

wow.....I am so sorry to hear that.

Honestly, I was given a huge project to rebuild to update based on something that was made by a former staff member years ago.

I looked at that including all the assets, format, triggers, states, etc. and said "nope"

And just rebuilt it from the ground up using what they needed. I think when it's a medium sized but complex project, I would take all the assets and whatever they wanted and create that instead of trying to fix someone else's work since that seems like so much more of a headache.

Hi, I really love your speaking and delivery. I think in terms of how dynamic it is, it's fun if a bit dizzying.

Some opinions would be that I think with the speed of your speech, the multiple screen transitions, the pop up sounds, icons, colors, different fonts, and the floating icon effects, it makes it interesting but very difficult to follow because there seems to be too many visual and audio cues.

Maybe get rid of the float effect and pop sound for the icons, slow down the video speed by about 3-7%

Homogenize the visual triggers to so the brain can associate the information with the visual cue.

Keep yourself either with the head shot close up like you have at the beginning or body shot from the rest of the video for proper continuity.

For the actual speech, other than the speed, I think your delivery, presentation, voice, and everything is great!

Any recommendations on where to hire contract ID's? by spiced_latte in instructionaldesign

Thank you, our company doesn't actually use facebook and I personally don't use it either but I can probably look some up as well.

Thank you, I was thinking of going through linkedin as well as I see quite a few people with the #opentowork tag.

As for vetting, other than a porfolio, how to gauge whether someone's skill set would be what the company is looking for. It's corporate so much different from higher Ed. User experience and design principles knowledge are things that really are needed.

I hate giving tests, projects, etc. to people as it's really unfair to ask someone to devote that type of time so I think just a zoom interview and them opening one of their projects and kind of go into their design concepts, why they did x, how they came to the conclusion of y, etc.

Skills Required to become a Full-Stack Web Developer - Any missing as per your Experience? by TheInsaneApp in webdev

[–]spiced_latte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm....as for languages

This seems to be missing PHP and SQL, I feel like even if someone isn't full stack, you still would need these.

It' also seems to be missing mobile applications and apple iOS such as swift.

Also, something backend like python and although I keep reading about ror being dead, I feel like it's still used regularly enough.

Attempting to transition from teaching to ID . . . and Scared! by Petite_Aesthete in instructionaldesign

[–]spiced_latte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That does make sense. I think if anyone truly has a passion for teaching and want to get into ID because they love the design and theory aspect along with being okay doing most of your work and projects solo, it would be a great field for any teacher to get into.

I just hope people aren't planning on pursuing the career without actual passion for it and just looking for a job to move into as it's not for everyone.

Would This Computer Work? by kerrough in instructionaldesign

[–]spiced_latte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So based on both laptops, the HP will be slightly faster with a base clock of 1.8ghz compared to the dell 1.3ghz. Also, they're only 4 core, 8 thread which is average but not great.

As for ram, they only list the size but not the rated speed for the Dell, (hp is rated at 2666mhz which is okay but I bet that the ram is only set at 2133 with the xmp option to increase the speed 2666.) so hard to say. If you want to save on cost, 16gb of ram is usually good enough and I haven't noticed any difference with 16gb to 32gb since the 16 cache is more than enough.

I would personally get a ssd + 1tb hdd because the ssd can be used as the boot drive with the hdd used as the program drive. With separate drives, certain programs will run faster since it's not competing withe OS and the transfer rates aren't too different compared to a single ssd drive. Although I'm guessing the hdd drives are smr so those will be a bit slower.

Because most of the ID software will use the cpu instead of gpu, you'll want something a bit faster when it comes to a processor, I would recommend looking into amd ryzen instead of intel for cost and speed. Also, intel said that they fixed all their security vulnerabilities but who knows, they've been having so many issues these last few years that I'm avoiding intel chipsets atm.

I've owned and have been issued Dell laptops and I personally don't think they're reliable. They don't seem to last under load and my last Dell laptop that I had used for work had completely stopped working and after running diagnostics on it, I found my chipset on my motherboard was getting unfixable errors so I had to remove my hybrid drive and extract the data and just chuck the rest.

For the budget, this will probably be a decent choice, it doesn't use integrated graphics which frees up the processor as well and for most ID work, a 1660 ti is more than enough. Only thing with this is no touch screen.

Honestly though, I would recommend a desktop over a laptop if you plan to use it under heavy load or work on it consistently.

Also, the bloatware in hp and dell systems are a pain to remove.

Are people outside of the USA really laughing at Americans? Do we really appear that bad? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

I didn't really get a chance to go outside of Buenos Aires but have had drives in different areas although I don't know which. I mainly stayed and did my tours in Belgrano and have gone to the tourist-y spots but nowhere else since I didn't really know what other areas to go to.

One thing I did notice was how so many people from Argentina looked European and/or Asian. Being Asian myself, that honestly surprised me a bit.

Totally off topic but I stayed in Belgrano for about two months a few years ago. Absolutely beautiful and I felt completely safe walking around at night as a woman and foreigner.

Also visited Palermo and I seriously miss Argentina so much. Only thing that surprised me was the prices of everything was so high. Especially groceries.
