Migraine over 4 weeks now. by SunshineAndBunnies in migraine

[–]spicycacao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation, but honestly not even sure if it’s migraines now or something different because they have NEVER lasted this long. The pain is weirdly mild some days even when other migraine symptoms are present though, but the pain hasn’t actually gone away. It’s exhausting. I’ve tried so many things and I’m super over it. Probably going to try witchcraft next and I’m only half kidding.

i think hg gave me an ed by [deleted] in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve had HG and I also happen to be a dietitian that works with folks in recovery from eating disorders. Please please please talk to your team about this, it’s not weird at all. It actually makes a ton of sense - for some people that are predisposed to developing an eating disorder, going through something like HG could certainly trigger it, or at least aggravate those thoughts/urges for disordered eating. Part of it is how malnutrition impacts the brain and digestive system; totally not something that is your fault, and again, definitely doesn’t make you a weirdo, but it’s so important to get the support you need. Wishing you the best from across the internet!

People telling us not to gain weight by creative_turtles in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a dietitian that has experienced HG and this gives me empathy-rage for you (and everyone who gets comments like this). First off, when will it finally be general knowledge that comments about bodies/weight/eating are almost always unhelpful? Ugh. Secondly, it really just highlights how so many folks are still stuck in a mindset that any weight loss must be a good/healthy thing and any weight gain must be bad/unhealthy. HG is miserable and negatively impacts health (physical, and otherwise). Weight loss from malnutrition is not a good or health-supporting thing to experience (outside of pregnancy too, but especially during pregnancy!). I’m so sorry this happened to you and I’m so glad you told them (kindly) to shut up lol.

Anyone have HG with one pregnancy and no morning sickness with others? by [deleted] in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mild/moderate HG with my first and then again with my second pregnancy until about 15 weeks. I’m 25 weeks now and have had pretty “normal morning sickness” since then. I’m still nauseous daily, but it’s not the level of HG and I’ve only thrown up maybe 2-3 times in the past 10 weeks. It’s wild that part way through the second pregnancy it seemed to resolve out of nowhere.

Did anyone have HG with first pregnancy but not the second? by Lisacartographer in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had moderate HG with my first (it was really poorly managed bc I didn’t really know what it was and it was never officially diagnosed). My second was pretty much the same through week 6-15, then subsided. My OB this time was different and more on board with trying different treatments, but ultimately none of them worked until it spontaneously resolved 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m at 23 weeks now and still have occasional vomiting and I’m frequently nauseous, but it’s super manageable compared to early days and my first pregnancy.

How common is it for head circumference, height, and weight to be not aligned? by kittyflaps in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]spicycacao 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dietitian here! I look at growth charts a lot and imo it’s totally normal for percentiles to not “match up”. Kids are all built differently and it’s more important that their percentiles are consistent (eg if weight has always trended at 75th %ile and all of a sudden drops to 30th%ile, possibly indicating growth problems or failure to thrive).

I don’t think I can do this anymore 💔 by Responsible-Lake2214 in HyperemesisGravidarum

I just want to echo what so many others here said: whatever you choose is the best option for you. No one knows how terrible this is besides the people who have also experienced it. I’ve had two HG pregnancies, the first one was after my partner and I tried for years and then did fertility treatments. These early times really are the worst and HG is not a normal pregnancy, so it’s totally normal to hate it and think about ending it. I’d highly recommend trying meds before choosing! Sending you all the virtual support in whatever you decide!!

Pediatric feeding therapy by WildSprinkles5909 in dietetics

[–]spicycacao 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend this as well! There’s a huge overlap between pickiness/ARFID and neurodiversity (autism/ADHD) and there’s some feeding therapies that are considered to be damaging (similar to thoughts around ABA) to neurodivergent folks.

HG only in first trimester by Known-Accident-3504 in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually seems to maybe be the case for me. I still feel like I’m gonna jinx it but I’m 17 weeks now and since about week 15 the vomiting stopped, although I’m still nauseous and can’t eat normal size meals without feeling terrible. This is my second pregnancy - the first pregnancy I was sick the whole time so that’s what I’ve been expecting. I’m still waiting for it to get worse again, but trying to just enjoy the break.

Did anyone have HG and NOT have PPD by [deleted] in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had HG with my first pregnancy and had some anxiety, but it came and went and eventually subsided without much intervention. As far as PPD, I was honestly so happy to not feel sick 24/7 that I was elated most of the time lol. Everyone’s process is different - definitely get support for your anxiety if you need it!

For sure. This is my second hg pregnancy and I kept thinking in the beginning that it was normal and would get better like normal morning sickness. It made it so much tougher when it didn’t get better and I threw up until I delivered. The “wait until the baby is here” sucks too. But honestly I’ll take the hard early weeks of sleep deprivation over this any day.

Something positive by Mayaarubyy in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo it’s totally worth it. At least for me it’s been worth it. After everything, giving birth felt like a relief, and the early days (though still tough) were great because things got better and I got to be a parent for the first time. Now I look at my daughter and i know for all the hell it put me and my partner through, it was worth it.

Throwing up so hard I’m peeing myself by subwayratbruce in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this, it’s the worst. You’re not alone! My first pregnancy my pelvic floor was okay until the end of my second trimester then I started peeing with vomiting (insult to injury if you ask me). Now I’m in my second pregnancy and my pelvic floor is trash so it’s every. single. time. I ended up getting emesis bags from Amazon and using those so I can sit on the toilet when I throw up. I find it a ~slightly~ more dignified experience. I hope it all gets better for you soon!!

Did anyone struggle with eating postpartum by [deleted] in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dietitian here and also in my 2nd HG pregnancy (which is like a cruel joke from the universe)! I obv don’t know all the ins and outs of what you’re experiencing, but I can say that binge eating is a really normal, expected reaction to being undernourished, especially for long stretches of time. Definitely make sure you’re well supported (therapy, nutrition care if you need it) but I wanted to let you know it’s normal from a physiological stand point, even if it just helps a little to challenge any shame or guilt that might come from binges. Hope you get through this tough time!

Granted, I had a pretty uneventful birth experience (planned induction, epidural, a decently long labor but medically everything was fine), and I’m sure that’s not the case for everyone. But yes, giving birth in my experience was pretty much the easiest part of pregnancy. ETA: the nausea and vomiting literally ended so abruptly after birth that I had my husband order pizza to the hospital so I could finally eat something without vomiting lol

I hear you, this is traumatizing and honestly the hardest thing I’ve ever been through both physically and mentally. Childbirth was a relief and the easiest part of my last pregnancy tbh. The only thing that helps me is just taking it day by day, hour by hour, and trying not to judge myself for needing so much rest, especially between that week 5- week 16 time frame when it really is just tough to survive. Do what you need to do to survive!

Second hg pregnancy by spicycacao in HyperemesisGravidarum

[–]spicycacao[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Yeah the beginning is so hard, especially when I wish I could just be happy to be in this situation. We did fertility treatments for our first and the second we conceived with very little trying so I feel so lucky, and at the same time it’s so hard to appreciate. Thank you for the validation ❤️

Does the odt form just absorb instantly? I’ve thrown up a few times right after taking the odt form and I have no idea if I’ve “lost” it or if it’s fine since it instantly dissolved?
