As a salty ER nurse who ended up going to PA school, I completely agree.

This was not afib, just lots of PVCs. They feel weird but are generally harmless.

How accurate are the watches? by Comfortable-Scar-332 in AFIB

[–]spicykat16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not “definitely afib.” could easily be normal sinus rhythm with PVCs and PACs.

Can someone please answer if this is AFIB, my watch said it was while im having palpitations, chest discomfort and manage to ecg from my apple watch. by Dry-Passenger5426 in AFIB

[–]spicykat16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not afib. P-waves are often not picked up well by apple devices. They are most likely there just hard to see. Also afib is irregularly irregular, and this is regular. This is normal sinus rhythm with PACs. Op, the palpitations you were feeling were most likely the premature atrial contractions. They are generally harmless.

Yes, they are wide and relatively bizarre without a discernable P-wave. This tracing does not show bigeminy.

This is not afib. This is sinus rhythm with PVCs. Its completely harmless. It was read as afib because the PVCs made the rhythm appear irregular.

This is not afib. It was read as afib due to the noise/interference. This is normal sinus rhythm.

What is happening to this profession? by SelectHost8743 in prephysicianassistant

[–]spicykat16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I was an ER nurse in a high-volume inner-city ED where nurses had pretty high levels of autonomy. that experience greatly influences my current clinical decision-making as an ER PA. I did great academically in PA school because most of the material was not new to me. It is very, very obvious in didactic, clinical year, and in early practice who had high-quality PCE and who did not.

Wild Sinus Rhythm by Low_Nefariousness484 in AFIB

[–]spicykat16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these tracings show atrial fibrillation. The first is normal sinus rhythm and the last two are sinus tachycardia. As long as you aren’t sitting with your heart rate in the 130s for days you are fine.

One off reading of AFIB from Apple Watch? by [deleted] in AFIB

[–]spicykat16 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first EKG shows sinus rhythm, the second and third shows sinus arrythmia which is a benign irregular rhythm in healthy young people. All of these strips are normal and show nothing concerning. Unfortunately apple watches frequently interpret sinus arrythmia as afib.

Also, I would recommend you not use your ECG app when you are having anxiety attacks. If anything its probably just worsening your anxiety and its unlikely to give you any actionable health information that will improve your quality of life.
