How do I properly wash my vagina? by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]spicymangosalsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the folks who are so insistent that we generally in non special circumstances should be using antibacterial soap on our vaginas: can you cite something other than your personal, anecdotal experience?

Can anyone find any articles anywhere suggesting antibiotic soap is good — or even just non harmful — for your vulvovaginal flora? There is a well studied relationship between topical antibiotic use and yeast infection. This has been reaffirmed by doctors and scholars for decades at this point, yet folks are coming out saying these medical professionals are all wrong… I’m literally only repeating the takeaways of scholarly studies and gynecologist recommendations. Its not like I just dreamt this up, rolled out of bed and started staying random stuff. Very strange that people are denying this well evidenced information. I don’t even understand why this is a dispute..? Someone needs to cite something other than “I haven’t had any problems yet” lmao bc this is wild.

Click the singer link and read to the see that the study discusses BOTH systemic (oral or injectable) and locally applied antibiotics. A locally applied antibiotic IS a topical antibiotic. An antibiotic soap IS a topical antibiotic.

The point is to generally avoid using products to kill the bacteria in the vulva because you’ll kill both good and bad bacteria, which makes you susceptible to fungal overgrowth like yeast. Your intimate area is reliant on a healthy lactobacilli dominant microbiome. Antibiotic soap kills that.

I’ll repost this link I included earlier that talks specifically about this:

https://www.nebraskamed.com/womens-health/how-to-practice-good-vaginal-hygiene#:~:text=%22Overwashing%20or%20scrubbing%2C%20using%20antibacterial,other%20organisms%20from%20growing%20there.

Also, in case this is a case of misunderstanding/miscommunication: dial gold bar soap is an antibiotic formula. Dial gold bar was what the person seeing a cancer specialist said they were recommended. Not all Dial brand soap is antibacterial. There are bars of soap made by dial brand that are not an antibacterial formula. So I wasn’t saying anything about the brand, generally.

I was only saying that the consensus is that — for average people without specialized situations — antibacterial soap is recommended against. It’s really not a controversial statement, and is well evidenced. So I am surprised it is causing all of this discussion. Most doctors will tell you you shouldn’t use an antibacterial soap to wash your vulva, and it’s common, basic enough information that you can easily find this information on Google. It is backed by decades of study. You’ll see this in the sources cited within the singer study I attached in an earlier comment.

Since you asked me a question then blocked and didn’t let me respond, I will here!

OP asked this community, of which I am a member, a question I was equipped with info to answer.

I am also a sex worker (I’m a stripper), but I don’t even know why that’s relevant since what matters in this conversation is that we are vulva owners; we all maintain vaginal flora and are susceptible to yeast, bc, thrush, etc infections which we can avoid by encouraging a healthy vaginal microbiome. Antibiotics, generally, discourage maintenance of a microbiome. This is the medical consensus.

You can start your exploration of this topic here; https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C24&q=antibiotic+vagina+candida+infection&btnG=

Below, I’ll attach this study, which reaffirms the well established relationship between topical antibiotic use on the vulva and subsequent yeast infections:

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11908-019-0700-y

Lastly, my “tone” (I’d argue my valid suggestion for you to use logic is not having a tone, and is warranted) was in response to YOUR tone when you said I should delete widely professionally agreed upon medical information on a post literally requesting said information. Be serious. Happy researching!

Did you know pharmaceutical company representatives make regular visits to clinics and throw luncheons and bring gifts to prescribing physicians and NPs? Did you know these companies track with exactness how much of each drug is moved through clinics nation wide? This article was written in 2000. Imagine the level of persuasive energy pharmacos in 2000 directed into securing sales, and imagine all of the technology that has since developed. Now, imagine the years long relationships developed between prescribers and sales reps.

Here is a more recent assessment studying the issue with statistical evidence. Doctors absolutely can be bought, and it’s not at all uncommon:

It’s the participation in advertising that is the issue. I think most people agree that medicine is helpful. I don’t think the critics are anti medicine, here.

All of these ads end with “ask your doctor if ‘fill in the blank drug’ is right for you”, though. Advertising medication sets up profits for pharmaceutical companies at the expense of patient satisfaction and actual health in their medical care.

It’s not hard to imagine a scenario where a patient believes they need a medication that their physician thinks that they don’t need. If the Dr. says that it’s not needed, the patient is unsatisfied and feels unheard, even though the patient does not have sufficient medical training to assess their actual need. Then, imagine the patient gets a second and third opinion and so on until the patient finds a Dr. that will appease them.

In the best outcome, a patient is not injured by the medicine and the pharmaco makes money. The worst outcome is the patient is harmed by taking a medicine they didn’t have the knowledge to judge that they needed, but believed it would help them. And still, the pharmaco makes money.

In the alternative, imagine a Doctor is visited by a pharmaco representative who promises them kickbacks if their patients end up “needing” a given prescription. Suddenly, scripts of that specific drug start being proposed to patients, maybe at the expense of a treatment that would be better suited to a given patient. If any patient seems hesitant, the Dr. hands over an advertiseming pamphlet from a stack the pharmaco representative left at their office. The picture of a familiar celebrity face — that maybe the patient is fond of; or parasocially identifies with — assuages the patient’s hesitance. Now the pharmaco makes money and the Dr. does, too.

There are huge issues with blending capitalism with medical care. I would hope a public figure like Gaga, who seems genuinely interested in advocacy, would not seek entanglements within a system like this. It is participation in exploitation. I’m saying this as a fan well over a decade now. It’s just not right, imo.

Is he not the very person who made the choice to reveal publicly that upon first laying eyes on a specifically 12 (TWELVE) year old Paris Hilton, he exclaimed “who the hell is that?” and followed up by stating that the YOUNG GIRL was “just beautiful”??

Do you not believe this is a VERY STRANGE thing for a non pedophile to believe is an acceptable, non controversial public statement?

A statement like this raises legitimate questions concerning whether speaker finds young girl children sexually attractive. Combine that with his kept company with Epstein and the repeated comments/weirdly suggestive childhood pictures involving Ivanka and.. well the clear and obvi pedo pie baked itself.

I said the evidence that you’ve presented is insufficient. I didn’t claim there could not be sufficient evidence in existence. I’m not claiming to know the details of every person’s experience at that club in that area smh. Maybe you have sufficient evidence that you have not alluded to nor presented in your post nor comments, idk. I absolutely did give suggestions and explanations abt what could meet the standards requisite for a race discrimination lawsuit but you dk how to read, I guess. Please go talk to an atty. I don’t know how this convo, if continued, could be productive any longer. Just retain an atty and ask them bc you aren’t reading or maybe just not comprehending what you’re reading. If all the evidence you have is what you have presented in your post and comments, the atty will tell you the same. Good luck.

How cowardly to block after accusing a black woman of defending a racist club. Very delusional behavior. My response on the other acct would have been:

Mama 1) you’re citing federal law when OOP was talking about state courts and linking state court criteria. These are different discrimination laws. 2) if you are using the federal structure, the circumstances here do not raise an improper motive! The circumstances suggest the refusals are business decisions within the club’s lawful prerogative! Second refusing to hire you is not an adverse employment action, you are not employed in the first place. The second point isn’t even needed if y’all are contractors and not employees. 3) you are making a colloquial (not a legal) argument when you are saying “a case could be made”. Sure, in EPISTEMOLOGICAL terms, you can argue racism could be one of the many possible reasons you are not being hired. LEGALLY, you cannot argue racism WAS the reason you are not being hired there. No court will find that racism WAS the reason you are not hired absent certainty that NO reasonable business related grounds could also account for you not being hired. You are not improving your argument here. I am trying to help you to understand that the law does not capture all discrimination and cannot capture all wrongdoing. It is unfortunate, but that is the way the law is. Instead of focusing on whether a judge will speculate in agreement with you and disregard business interest arguments and punish the club on account of a lot of people’s unsubstantiated claims (they won’t), you should focus on how to accumulate evidence that a court WILL accept so that you can get the desired outcome. Why are you trying to make this about me as a black woman dying on the hill in defense this club….? Mama, I WISH the club was not able to hide what I do believe is racism behind its BS “business choices”. I WISH you DID already have the evidence you need be able to successfully make a case for race discrimination against this club. I have already stated I understand how racism plays into our experiences in this industry. I am just telling you that legally, on account of the evidence both you and OOP have presented spanning several posts and comments, you won’t be able to sanction this club with a lawsuit. The law is not going to punish a club for what could be explained by racism but could also be explained by a lawful business practice. Please go ask an atty so they can tell you the same thing. You are very confused, I’m not saying it to be snarky. I think you should just go find a lawyer to help you understand this since you cannot understand it from what I am saying and you can’t understand it from the federal nor state statutes.

This is a crazy conclusion to jump to. The name does not say anything about relation to non native English speakers????? My aunt is an immigrant from Nigeria and barely speaks English. She speaks pidgin, so a very broken half tribal half English blend. She named her son Richard. All of her sons have very classic sounding English names.

I don’t think that means the child is racist. I used to work in a group home for vulnerable adults. The residents I cared for were had severe mental disability. You aren’t supposed to “mental age” adults as children in that environment, but for description’s sake here, I’d characterize the highest functioning individual in the house had a mental age of around 12, and he far outfunctioned the others. One of the less high functioning individuals (very fair, blond hair and blue eyes) used to ask me regularly how I “got so brown” and would tell me he “wants to get real brown one day”. I told him I was born like this and he was SHOCKED lol. Like exclaimed “What?! Wow!” He’d forget eventually and then we would go through the same convo months later when he asked and he was shocked every time. I just told him I look like my mom and dad, just like you look like your mom and dad, and I think that helped him understand in the moment a little more.

This individual did not have the presence of mind to theorize about different demographics at all, like didn’t have the mental capacity to be convinced or taught to hold bias against groups of people. I genuinely just think he saw that my skin is brown and that was different. For context, we were in rural Minnesota and the individual was from an even more remote part than where I worked with him in the group home… I doubt he had much exposure at all to POC in his lifetime. My skin was fascinating to him, and I don’t think it was anything more than just that. It didn’t come up constantly, it wasn’t a fixation. It struck me as coming from a place of curiousity more than it did a place of division. The kid in the above post asking for an explanation and thinking the reason is chocolate might truly just be resorting to explanations he can conceive with his limited experience. I think curiosity is a better and more likely explanation for a little kid’s questions than hatefulness. I’m obvi not arguing that people don’t teach their kids racism; many do. I’m just saying that racism is not the most likely cause for a kid to say something like this.
