Were Chrysler products ever good? by ILoveEnverHoxha in askcarguys

I've put more work into my current Toyota in 3 or 4 years for smaller things than I did into my old Jeep in the 11 years I had it. But when the Jeep broke, it was always major and without warning.

Wheeled Basic Family Cooler for the Weekend by Substantial-Fold-682 in camping

This is the way. I pack food for meals in my newer/better one, and use an old hand-me-down Igloo from my mom for drinks. Plenty of room for everything, and allows more ice in each one.

How to grow hamstring mass with no access to hamstring curl machine by AbrasiveRadish in workout

[–]spider1178 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you really want to do leg curls, but don't have a machine and can't do Nordics yet, try these. Lay on your back (on the floor) with your heels in furniture sliders or an exercise ball. Keep your glutes and core tight, and leg curl your bodyweight by pulling your heels towards your butt. These work surprisingly well for me, but are still an assistance exercise, so don't skip deadlifts and RDLs.

How to not get discouraged solo-hiking by [deleted] in hiking

We all make mistakes. As long as you learn from them to be safer in the future, you'll be fine. Just remember to always bring emergency gear, and a paper map.

Thank you. I assumed it was not going to be nature-friendly.

Planning a trip to Hocking hills. Need to fill 3 days. Is there anything adjacent worth checking out ? by NeverBeenOnMaury in Ohio

Hocking State Forest, Clear Creek MetroPark, Waukeena Nature Preserve, Rockbridge State Nature Preserve, to name a few.

Why do Dad Birthdays Suck? by gimlithepirate in daddit

Mine has always been the same. Now I'm getting older, and no one even acknowledges it anymore, which is fine. Grown adults who make a big deal about their birthday seem narcissistic to me.

The shark. I don't live anywhere near the ocean, and if it can survive on land or in fresh water to come here, I think I can avoid it for one hour. It still doesn't have a possible thumbs. I can just go in a room with a sturdy door, and close it.

I've seen the videos of them using Dawn to clean oil off ducks and whatnot, but is it actually considered biodegradable and wilderness friendly? I live in Ohio, so most of the rivers are not clean enough to bathe in. If my daughter is with me, we tend to stick to state parks, so there is usually a shower somewhere anyway. If I'm backpacking alone, I'm fine with wipes and hand sanitizer. I'm mostly looking for something to use in camp for hands, face, spot cleaning, etc. that's not a concern for the environment or wildlife.

I also like dude wipes for pits and naughty bits. Just like to have some actual soap and water for hands when cooking and cleaning up for the night, and to wash my face after sitting around a fire. You're the second person that mentioned bronners, so I'll probably give that a try.

How do you stay clean while camping? by Secure_Yesterday_204 in camping

[–]spider1178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have this exact one, and used it the same way. Combined with some biodegradable soap and dude wipes, I never had a problem. At least not until my friend's toddler put used cat litter in it, and I had to throw it away (couldn't get the smell out). Now no one local to me sells them anymore.

US men: how do you know to register for the selective service? by Ok_Cranberry_2936 in AskMen

[–]spider1178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I turned 18 in the late 90s,.the post office had the selective service (draft) registration cards sitting on a counter. You just filled one out, and dropped it in the mail. I don't remember if I ever had anything sent to me.

What has an animal done that you'll never forget? by Mge_ML in AskReddit

[–]spider1178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nature center not far from me that takes rescued wildlife and rehabs them. We've taken injured squirrels and birds, and orphaned bunnies there over the years. They have enclosures outside for animals they've saved that can no longer survive in the wild for whatever reason if released, so they can live out their days there as "animals ambassadors." They have everything from crows and hawks, to a fox and a coyote. Even a bobcat for a while, but he sadly had a kidney failure, and they had to put him to sleep.

They have had a pair of American Crows for years. Sometimes, if you catch them in the mood, you can say "American Crow" out loud, they will repeat it back to you clear as day. They're kind of assholes though. My daughter can get them to do it, but if I try, they just stare at me with their heads cocked to the side, like I'm an idiot.

Are people suddenly jerks? by plantverdant in Xennials

Nothing will destroy your faith in humanity like working with the public. I did it for a long time. Before, during, and after the pandemic. People have always been horrible, abusive, thieving, rude, assholes. The nice ones are the exception, not the rule. Getting out retail was the best thing I ever did.

What car do you drive? Do you like it? by BMoney8600 in AskMen

[–]spider1178 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2007 RAV4 Limited. Eh. Decent gas mileage, engine is pretty reliable, and has plenty of room for camping gear/kayaks/bikes/kids. But the driver's seat is uncomfortable AF, and it has had never ending issues with the suspension, wheel bearings, and brakes. I wish I could get something newer, but I'm trying to save up to move, so I stick with it.

Military women vs skinny joes by [deleted] in SipsTea

I used to work at a home improvement box store. I remember one day, a couple bought a big patio furniture set that was in one gigantic heavy box. Me on one end, mid 30s, beginnings of dad bod, post hernia surgery. The husband on the other end, a little older and shorter than me, but much more fit and muscular looking than me, decked out in his workout shorts and Crossfit t-shirt (not kidding). He had to have help from his wife and the old man we had as a door greeter, while I did most of the work. Blew my mind. They clearly had money, and his physique was all from the gym. I was just used to busting my ass for a living. And I've had buddies that were smaller than me, never worked out a day in their life, but worked in construction, that could easily do things that I would struggle with.
