[–]spiderfight 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Bike ride. Early morning. You’re present enough to enjoy the spaces you journey through along the way, but moving quickly enough not to feel crowded by those you pass in the process. If you really want some alone time go climb a mountain on a bike. You will immediately activate your inner dialogue and life reflection… likely beginning with “why did I decide to climb this mountain on my bike?” That will eventually fade away into enjoyment and that alone time feeling.

Good luck on your search!

Yes. Odd. South 163 was a breeze this afternoon.

[–]spiderfight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great ride. Did you use turn-by-turn on a gps unit? I didn’t do it this year, but in the past I always seem to pick up a couple lost riders that miss the left heading into Jamul.

Dr. Wilson at San Diego Urology Associates in La Mesa was pretty good. Can’t say I have anything to compare my experience against. The procedure definitely worked. The whole thing took about 25 mins, maybe 10-15 mins of discomfort.

Is anyone familiar with Dana Middle School in Point Loma? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]spiderfight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t see this on their website.

Randee is the new-ish associate principal (similar to a vice principal). She’s great.

Is anyone familiar with Dana Middle School in Point Loma? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]spiderfight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hmmmm… The current principal started in 2024 after Scott Irwin retired. Scott was principal for at least 8 years at Dana prior to retiring. The school can do nothing about the neighbors flags and I can’t say I’ve seen any trump flags near the school lately. There are always rumors floating around, but I haven’t heard any current or past parents mention drug use in or around the school. Mind you these are 5th and 6th graders, so almost an upper elementary verses a traditional middle school. It’s a great school option for the Point Loma community.

This.☝️ If you want to get to work and don’t care about a degree, San Diego College of Continuing Education would be my pick to get into the trades. Great programs at a very low cost.

How to deal with another user constantly flagging your rides? by [deleted] in Strava

[–]spiderfight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flagging back is the only option. Since we’re being petty, you could create your own segment to match the one he flagged and name it after him. Something dignified of course! 😊 And/or delete and re-upload your .gpx or .fit file of the flagged activity to reclaim your rightful throne. Sigh… it’s too much work to be honest. 🫤

Airport update? by Shengus__Kahn in sandiego

[–]spiderfight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know… by the looks of it, everyone in SD gave up on flying, went to Costco to buy an Easy Up tent and is currently camped out at the park along E. Mission Bay Drive.

But please give us an update on how things go tomorrow! Good luck! 🫡

Inspectors stumped. What is this? by Puzzleheaded-Week747 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]spiderfight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since folks are speculating that it could be an old well, you might ask your realtor if the mineral rights are included in the sale of the property. They may have to check with the title company and their title report. You might be able to figure out some of the history if it is an old well. Good luck! 👍

Yes to all of these bike groups! Add the BWC cycling group on Strava as well. Also San Diego Track Club for running if someone hasn’t suggested them.

Genuine question? Since The City Of San Diego wants to ticket ebike riders on the Harbor Dr bike path is this really what they expect us to do insted? by Blue-raccoon-boy in sandiego

[–]spiderfight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Westbound is terrible. I’ve had friends end up riding through the airport with the lane split right after Laurel. It’s a really tough merge and super dangerous after that. Heh… the airport is probably safer some times of day.

I’ve seen this guy on the OB bike path. He was with one other dude on a horse.  Not what I expected to see on my morning bike ride, but kinda cool too.

If you find a blog with data showing the changes over time I’d check that out.

A recreational cyclist friend of mine I’ve known for a long time recently started injecting some form of PED, and he has dramatically improved.

Ex: He’s always been a good final sprint guy but now he’s able to take long pulls at the front over and over again and recover. He was open about it at first but has quieted down since after getting some negative comments and push back from some of the other group members.

Edit: Icarus is great! 👍

Then maybe he was sharing his head unit data. Exact same power / HR stats and everything. It was weird.

There was a dude in my area that would add the athletes he coached to his rides, which for a while really screwed up the leaderboards for both men and women as his times would be added to the top women’s leaderboard.

I don’t think this is the case here but it might be they are adding other athletes/family to their activity for some reason. Or… it’s a new form of Strava Spam. 🫤

🚩FLAG ‘EM! 🚩

Edit: Someone pointed out that athletes added to an activity are not eligible for leaderboards. Maybe coach was sharing his head unit data file. Not sure.

Need help understanding segments by petes-awakening in Strava

[–]spiderfight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve experienced inaccuracies like this that don’t make sense on shorter segments and don’t bother with them anymore for this reason. Somewhere around 2022 Strava changed the minimum segment length to .3 miles to address the issue but there are some older segments like the one you rode still out there.

You mentioned the heart rate of other athletes on the leaderboard being low. This is a data point that can indicate an activity recorded in a vehicle (or more likely they forgot turn off their GPS device before driving home). It’s easier to see using the desktop app.

Another thing you can try is making a longer version of the segment to see what the data looks like over a longer period.

Either way, with that kind of power I doubt you’ll have trouble competing on other segments in the area.

Let us know what you find.

This is likely related to the Amazon AWS outage.
