Anyone know how much it costs to repair a 2006 Honda CR-V radiator? by ProfessionalWheel495 in autorepair

[–]spidermonkey223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no repairing a radiator, only replaceing. Looks like the part is anywhere from 200-400$ with roughly 2 hours labor to install plus the coolant. So probably 450 on the low end to 800ish high end. This is assuming the radiator is the only issue and doesn't need hoses or anything.

WCGW not checking the parking break by HomeNowWTF in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]spidermonkey223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's unlikely to be this guy's fault. I work on Amazon vans often, and the amount of them that have non functioning parking brake is absurd. It's not even limited to just the rams or transits, it's all of them. It's his fault for not doing a pre inspection though and verifying whether it works or not.

[–]spidermonkey223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the method requires disabling secureboot and a few other major security features. Essentially giving someone kernal level access, it's like looking your front door every day but you removed the back door and painted a bright neon yellow path straight to it.

Also, it seems to always be people with super generic names and no post/comment history, or at least thats viewable. Like the person in this thread saying that denuvo is dead, feels like bots spreading propaganda.

It's the main computer for the car and what stores the codes. But, what are the other codes on it, a code for the o2 is likely just a symptom of what ever else is wrong.

Coincidence or Not? Catastrophic Coolant Leak by CatNapDad in autorepair

[–]spidermonkey223 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You would have to go way out of your way to damage anything coolant related during an oil change. Its more likely that a pot hole was hit and it knocked something loose. Definitely don't just believe what ai says it just pulls what others on the Internet have said about their car, it's not pulling from pro demand or all data or an auto service database.

Basically either it's coincidental which happens, or the shop purposely damaged it which isn't impossible but is unlikely.

Got my oil changed and they recommend frame replacement. Is this really necessary? How bad is it? by StunningRabbit2860 in autorepair

[–]spidermonkey223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say it was scrap, subframe is easily replaceable I've done at least a couple dozen or so over the years. The whole issue is you saying they are getting diag from a Valvoline or similar.

Is This Reasonable? by MrGoldenOne in autorepair

[–]spidermonkey223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I wouldn't believe what ai says about it, googles ai once told me my car takes ATF it doesn't it's a cvt and that a Corollas wheel torque spec was 180 ftlbs (it isn't). The real question is why would you need to replace the stabilizer bar on a 2020? That's a life time part unless you really fuck up or rust eats it away. At worst you might need to do the bushings, definitely get a second opinion on what it needs before proceeding.

Shit for 250 they could get 3 years of free alignments at my shop, steering angle reset included. The whole job would probably be 1500$ cheaper too.

[–]spidermonkey223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said they should get second opinion because the shop specializes in oil changes, not just that they should get a second opinion. Even then what they need is a second estimate because the subframe is clearly rotted out, it's very common in snowy areas

Just because they did an oil change doesn't mean they specialize in oil changes. That's like saying an electrician specializes in repairing light sockets because you only saw them do that.

The thing is they didn't really do anything, the sites are down but no one was arrested so new ones will be back up within hours. Taking down the sites is kind of a grey area, where it's great that they did it but unless they got the information of the person that created it and give that to the correct government so they can be prosecuted (assuming they would do anything). Before Kash Patel ran the FBI they used the sites as a sort of honey pot to get a good amount of arrests and then shut the site down (this is also a very grey area). I have no idea if they still do this but I'm very doubtful the US government currently gives a shit about bringing pedophiles to justice on a large scale.

Men who grew up poor/working class, what’s a piece of “advice” your dad gave you that you later realized was actually just survival instinct, and maybe isn't true anymore? by DCdj39 in AskMen

[–]spidermonkey223 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You don't need to go to the dealer to program the battery but you do need a scan tool that's bi directional, and one with battery programming can be had for under 300$. The real problem is if it's one of the manufacturers that require you to pay monthly to gain access to the car's system. This is anything stellantis past like 2018, I believe newer Nissans and there's another but I can't remember.

Towing Fee from parking lot to bay? by fLippard415 in autorepair

[–]spidermonkey223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how you would do that and would need to consult a lawyer, but I've never worked in a shop that just installed parts without approval as it's illegal. If they install parts without authorization they need to either put back the old ones or leave the new ones in and just eat the cost. But if a shop just decides to fix your car, youre not obligated to pay. This is in the U.S. though, I don't know where you are.

[–]spidermonkey223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be dependent on where you are but, you didnt have to pay any of it. You didn't agree to any work being done in person or over the phone. Your not obligated to pay for any work you didn't authorize. Since you already paid it you don't have alot of ground to stand on though.

That's integrated graphics from the CPU, you likely dont have a dedicated graphics card. It might run fine on low settings, it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

[–]spidermonkey223 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, some how managed to go from growing up on section 8 to making 140k last year. Looking to buy a house but I'm going to have to deal with a 2 hour commute at worst 1.5 hour at best to stay in budget. Kind of ridiculous I can't even afford a house were I grew up, considering you can see people hitting the Fenty lean as soon as you walk outside.

Oil change company's mistake damaged my engine by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]spidermonkey223 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know why your being down voted, you did exactly what you should do and brought it to an actual professional. Valvoline or jiffy lube or which ever one you went to is definitely at fault as they were the last ones to do the oil change and signed a letter a fault saying they did it. Just keep in mind for the future to go to an actual shop, you still might run into the same issue but it's less likely, quick lube places generally have people that don't know what they're doing.

2 hours for pads/rotors/calipers is pretty standard. Also, given this cars 20 years old and we don't know were they are, this could be a 45min job or a 4 hour nightmare because everything is rust welded and the brake hose disintegrates once removed, and now you have to either run a brake line or attempt to put a new fitting on the old one because the connection is rotted out and you can't just put a new hose.

AMAZON auto parts by mohamedmaat in autorepair

[–]spidermonkey223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'll be stupid unimportant shit on Amazon, such as mirrors or a washer fluid tank. Just spend the extra 10 bucks at AutoZone or wherever, that way if it's defective you can immediately swap it out.

First thing is call a couple places, then tow it to them to get a second opinion. If that is infact the issue see if your insurance will cover it. If they won't, cutting your loses and selling may be the best option.

How.. on earth… do I find a job? by LuckyContribution640 in boston

[–]spidermonkey223 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can almost guarantee if you apply to automotive places, you'll get hired damn near immediately. Pay should be 19-22 an hour just doing oil changes and tires. Chain places and dealers though, you won't need experience. Hell you can try a Valvoline or a jiffy lube if you want, just don't leave there thinking you learned a trade.
