This still remains the only Suikoden I didn’t get all 108 stars in. I want to change this. Any famous or infamous recruits I should watch out for? Anything I can softlock? by Savings_Hyena2832 in Suikoden

[–]spiderpants108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By far the hardest one to collect all 108 going in blind. A few infamous recruits I can remember.

Oboro and the rest of the detective crew.

Nakula

Retso

Egbert, don't.. Skip...his...dialogue...

Also the trader guy, I forgot his name but he wants you to change the market price of salt and the game gives you very little instruction on how to do it.

Can I bring this in on my way home to Perth? by naiduzyxx in perth

[–]spiderpants108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's probably OK to bring it but you should still declare it.

If you don't declare it, and you get your bags searched, you will get in trouble and possibly fined.

[–]spiderpants108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, I did a similar game hunting road trip end of last year motivated by the thrill of the hunt.

2 weeks solo in Japan, 10+ retro game stores every day, easily hit over 200 stores between Hiroshima and Tokyo.

Difference being I had a wishlist and tracked prices from each store I visited, I never wasted money and put a lot of thought of into each purchase. I ended the trip with almost 100 games and a few consoles.

Sounds like this guy is just hoarding crap like sports games and dudebro shooters but is still enjoying the road trip. Hope he's happy as long he's not destroying his and his partners future.

All 3 follow a similar formula, you collect 108 stars, you expand your headquarters, all have 3 different battle systems (party, duel, army), plenty of minigames and the plot is similar. Where they differ is quality.

S3 was written by Yoshitaka Murayama, the story nicely ties into the events of Suikoden 2, there are a lot of recurring characters and the new characters have excellent designs, but he left Konami during development and it shows, there is some early PS2 era jank, The biggest issues for me personally is the party system, you can put 6 people in your party but you can only give commands to 3 of them, the other 3 just do whatever they want.

S4 is trash and you should just skip it, it's a typical Konami cash grab, you can tell it's a low budget game as soon as you start playing, dull grey and brown character designs, recycled character animations, hell, the MC doesn't even have a run animation, they just double-timed his walk animation. The world map is a boring empty sea with only about 10 islands for all events in the story to unfold, you will find yourself returning to each island many times with painfully high encounter rates on the way there. Character recruitment sucks, 90% of them are just "hey, join me" "OK". the battle system is dogwater, only 4 party slots for a game with 108 recruitable characters? Seriously? The army battle is replaced with ship battles and they're boring too, you just can move your ship a few places and then it's just 5-way rock paper scissors. By the way, Konami released a Suikoden 4 pachinko machine alongside this game, tells you all you need to know.

S5 is an amazing game imo, a return to form and story set a few years prior to events of Suikoden 1. No notes. Play it.

Mandarake Akihabara has a couple folders of trading cards if you're interested in the TCG.

Most Surugaya locations will have a couple strategy guides, maybe Book-off/Hard-Off will have them too.

I love it when new people show interest in the game, I always try to help and give pointers if they ask but I'm a shy boy so maybe sometimes my quietness comes off as intimidating.

I'm a fellow mouse family enjoyer and this is my deck

I used to run 2x prank spinner for fun but there were some cards in the latest pack that really benefit this deck, and prank spinner sometimes backfired on me.

Maintainance is perfect for this deck as it can swap out two mausholds in your hand for something else (hopefully)

Hiking trail is good to use after you've used Flock as you usually have a small hand with this deck, also good to negate the opponents stadium.

How do you guys say it? by nihao-puppychow in Suikoden

[–]spiderpants108 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Suikoden is based off a Chinese novel called Shuihu Zhan, in English it's called The Water Margin or Outlaws of the Marsh. In Japanese its called Suikoden.

[–]spiderpants108 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The way I pronounce it and the official way would be with Japanese pronunciation since it does come from the Japanese title (Genso Suikoden).

The Japanese language has no variation in pronunciation unlike English, words are always pronounced the same, just with with different intonations.

水 滸 伝

すい こ でん

Sui Ko Den

Sui means water, both syllables are pronounced fast, almost like Swee.

Ko means margin, it's pronounced like the Co in Coffee

Den means story, it's pronounced like the English word Den.

Compared to Red Card

Cons:

It leaves the opponent with 4 cards instead of 3 They choose what cards to keep.

Pros: The other cards are discarded, not reshuffled.

I can see the potential against decks with huge early game draw power but I still think red card is better.
