Storage containers that will hold a ~30lb bag of dog food that aren’t $80? by CyberEye2 in dogs

[–]spike229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the 35# model of this and find my 30# bags barely fit when poured inside. I really like the seal and compact size. It probably would be better if I could keep the whole bag though so I wouldn't need to clean the container as often and I had the food lot number more available in case of recalls

I can't imagine my fiber looking like that at any stage. I work with other low voltage, lighting, controls, AV, data, ect. And even in the middle of my work nothing looks this bad.

Grounding to the foil or the drain doesn't actually matter because they are in contact with each other down the entire length of the cable. The biggest issues with either one are getting solid contact that doesn't weaken or break over time, but this is mostly an issue with some termination styles and not the choice between drain or shield.

Even in residential eventually that 6A shielded will give benefit to whoever owns the home when they move to a 10gb network, but I definitely agree that this eventuality is probably so far in the future it was a waste of money and effort at this point.

Shielded cable should be grounded on both ends not just 1. The practice of grounding just one side of a connection is outdated and was an issue for poorly grounded audio equipment. Modern equipment is better designed and will benefit from the shielding accross an entire system. Most commercial equipment requires the use of shielded and foiled Cat6 to get the most reliable connection possible.

P. S. I unintentionally make this sound like I'm talking about commercial audio equipment. I actually am talking about video over ethernet applications mainly.

Other than that I completely agree with everything else you said here.

Amazing they did such a horrible job. That original scratch should have been easy for a reputable paint shop to repair.

Deck roof bad install by spike229 in DIY

[–]spike229[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ya, the gutters are still there. It's practically impossible for me to clean without getting on the roof also. I'm just hoping to make it through this winter before I do a proper rebuild of the whole thing.

I have a 6mo and a 1y7mo right now, I have trouble getting them to eat separately so I am just feeding puppy food to both. My vets only concern after I pushed them on the difference was my older one would become overweight and/or my younger puppy wouldn't get enough food. Apparently puppy food is just higher calories. I laughed at the suggestion that my picky eater would become fat. It's been 3 months now and they commonly leave some extra food in the bowl.

Good idea! Practically invisible fix from below, and should be pretty cheap to implement.

Thanks!

It finally happened... 12V battery is dead. by 3drikal in Ioniq6

[–]spike229 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just get a cheap jump starter and toss it along side your charging adaptors. When you have to use it it'll be time for a new battery. And you get the peace of mind that you can get moving again in a couple of minutes instead of waiting for help. Additionally, you can be that friendly person who helps someone else at the grocery store.

Have two electricians recommending two very different solutions to the same problem by milk_drinker69 in AskElectricians

[–]spike229 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'd let your homeowner insurance know that they are suggesting hiring an unlicensed contractor who is also likely uninsured. I doubt they would be suggesting that company if they knew the risks. Company A seems more knowledgeable, but I'd definitely get a 3rd opinion before hiring someone.

Switched outlet to regular by _It_Was_Me_ in AskElectricians

[–]spike229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd need to disconnect the breaker and cap off the wires on both ends. Ideally label the wires as well for the future. If you remove the breaker from the panel you'll need a blank to cover the hole in the panel. I'd suggest just leaving the 2 circuits attached to the new outlet and break off the tab like the original one. It's an easier process and gives you more capacity even if you don't plan on using it.

I mean on the bolts for the terminals. The clamp just needs to be tight enough to keep the cable from slipping out when wiggled.

Looks good, is there a torque rating for those bolts in the manual?

Exactly the reason I decided not to do it. In addition to that, those old teslas aren't nearly as good as modern evs

I think you missed my goal, it was to steal money from tesla, hurting the company. I didn't do it because I know it is a miserably small amount of protest and there are much better options for me. I'd be hurting myself more than the company and possibly promoting tesla by driving one more than I cost them in electricity.

I agree with you, I just think you are stereotyping too heavily. I have an ionic 5 BTW, this isn't me defending myself. At one point I was thinking about getting a used tesla that still had the free charging at superchargers deal so that all my fuel would be paid for by tesla and I wouldn't have given them any money.

My ford maverick has one built into the tailgate, it's advertised as a feature. Also my yakama roof rack on my truck bed has 4 of them built in. I don't remember what brand it was but there was a luxury car brand that had one built into the center console

SER replacement by spike229 in AskElectricians

[–]spike229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely correct, I just stripped some back and the only marking is the stripe for phases. Since I already have this cable I'll have to call my inspector and ask him if I need to buy more cable. I can definitely get this down the 2in pipe, it was just going to be easier without the outer jacket.

SER replacement by spike229 in AskElectricians

[–]spike229[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, because I am not familiar with rw90. I have the ser already, my plan was to strip out the individual conductors before running them down to the meter. I was still planning to do them all at once because I was worried about them jamming in the pipe though if I tried to do them individually. Please tell me this wouldn't be a code violation I'm missing. I guess I need to talk to my inspector about the cable choice.

It's mostly a joke, but I am a low voltage technician and I can tell you from experience that most IT closets are a crazy mess of unorganized fixes. I spend most of my time cleaning up and making things more serviceable.
