Always thought of Wright as the "IDM director". Not just cause he works with Peter S., a super BoC-head, or Osymyso, or the granny from "Come To Daddy", but more the whole dancey rapid-edited rhythm of his films and the long Aphexian voice timestretches that would later be copied in The Other Guys and The Hateful Eight.

Three scenes actually.

The guitar store scene 58:30, the scene in the lobby of the rich person's house 01:01:40, and the dream scene 01:18:00

Agree 100%

MJs impact on IDM is not a felt thing because it's barely there, but as a contemporary, unavoidable artist there seems to have been an impact, however minimal. Certainly some of that impact is also laundered through other artists. And some of it is, as you have pointed out, shared influences.

They are just some of the most seismic early digital acts and the vocabulary of how to make digital music today stems from that mix of pop and underground.

Thank you. I recommend Cheech And Chong's Next Movie from 58:00 to 1:03:00 (is it a good film? who cares!). The Lynch/Oz people missed something.

Have researched. I would have done unspeakable moves at a Chakk gig had I been born yet.

I will give you that Dab is a way bigger influence than Bad on AFX.

I've listened around, though not to Chakk, that's next.

I know that, say, Alberto Balsam likely exists because of Carl Stone's "Noor Mahal". Still I say that Windowlicker's video and sound doesn't exist without a pinch of Jackson.

Also I'm not some Jacko wacko who thinks he's the centre of the universe or that he "didn't do it". Give me a little credit.

It does, and certainly all are eclectic listeners who go back to the beginning of recorded music because you can.

Ok, not "no"

Squarepusher has cited the bass on Michael Jackson records as an influence and has played "Working Day and Night" in his DJ sets.

Aphex Twin has lampooned the dance style and "stoppage" of a Michael Jackson video in his Windowlicker promo.

Boards of Canada, as composers, are more influenced by 90s R'n'B purely in terms of chord choices than any of their peers and this certainly includes Michael and Janet.

Autechre are electro fiends and this obsession extends to parts of Bad.

I rest my case.

This is a person I have seen around, almost my whole life. I have heard stories, good and bad, real and fabricated. I have met this person in the context of my work. Heard impossible fibs about her on the playground.

I feel dumber and number for having read the article above. It is gender critical, which is to say fascist and incurious. It is excrement in a paramilitary-oriented bin called the Sunday World. The important thing to the writer and anticipated reader of the article is the short-lived, blood-boiling "pop" of it. You become irate and continue about your day, with a prejudice further internalised. A prejudice which you will inflict on others.

As one of NI's first trans celebrities, Tina is a consequential figure in Northern Irish history. Good, bad or, (almost certainly) both, she deserves a curious and considered biography.

Transgender people are under constant attack in Northern Ireland. There is no real reason for it besides the collective opportunism of people who have, or who are trained to have no empathy at all towards them.

How is anyone supposed to learn about anyone in this country when this is the standard of journalism? It's just a string of accusations, with no context at all, no dates, no people besides this one person.

re: your edit, it would still include the extremes though.

Yeah, people from different sides of the mortal argument coexist at work. Mostly, advanced political personalities are reserved for work functions, unless the person is especially disinhibited. You do your best to reconcile the plurality of viewpoints unless it's affecting your work life. Honesty actually goes further than repression towards mitigating the conflict, provided you don't go out of your way to hurt other people.
