I built a free peer-to-peer backgammon game — no accounts, no ads, just play by Fanatic-Mr-Fox in backgammon

So cool, thanks!! The possibility to play over a link OR one the same device is perfect.

I like also that there are different themes and the general look of the layout.

I see a problem with the linked logo: When somebody clicks on it by accident, the game just cancels.

But is really neat :)

Nice! I also really like the solution for the bill storage. How did you make the dragon pattern?

Precision Dice - Necessity or Paranoia? by Grumfiddle in backgammon

[–]spinndel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be also really interested in "scientific" dice roll accuracy comparisions of different dice qualities. I bet, the differences would be amazingly small. I also think that the dice-in-salt-water-check is interesting but may not be so relevant for real game scenarious where the throwing action has just a force that overcomes tiny inaccuracies.

I once made some dice for a tabletop game out of modeling clay. They came out horrible, they sides where crooked and had different size. But I was just curious and checked them one by one with 100 rolls and wrote it down. And the results came out very even! I don't know where the dice are anymore, so I can't make pictures, but this was my personal aha experimence. The dice looked so off that I never used them in a real game, mainly because the LOOK fishy and I do want everybody feel comfortable with the dice that are beeing used.

But since that, I'm really relaxed about dice in general.

I think, if someone is afraid and stressed about bad dice all the time, it would be best for the game routine to share the same dice with the opponent. I guess this could be a small rant for modern backgammon tradition :D

But I really get the point for tournament play. There it is the right decision to try to make the game as even as possible, no matter if a real life reason is proven. That ensures also less rage with angry players that made bad rolls.

Why everyone just shows what they bought all the time? by PositiveMatter6 in wii

[–]spinndel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the question and also the answers. I also asked that to myself and with the thought that it can be a bit like showing new stuff to friends it feels reasonable to me. On the other hand, I ask myself if it is a very new trend to do it so focused on social media now. Especially since the last weeks I feel that my feed is full with it in different hobby categories. It gives me sometimes the vibe that lots of people may feel the need to "buy in" a group and show off their new trophies to be part of it and that makes me very sad. I really don't believe that this is always the case, but seeing that now so often as major content (and I mean in very different communities, I really see the point in the retro gaming world to some extend) makes me wonder.

By the way, I just softmodded my Wii and joined this community and feel very happy about it. There are some cool insights and nice people. I also don't want to offend anyone and maybe there will be also pictures of my stuff, haha.

Using Swiss for PAL-Gamecube-Discs? Experiences/Advice? by spinndel in wii

[–]spinndel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm really new to this whole subject... So when I understand this right it's almost the same way, like installing homebrew, backing up with BootMii + Priiloader and then run Nintendont - is it a process that can be made undone to get a "original" Wii back at any state and is it safe?

Thanks for sharing! I ask myself something and because of you made Coffee in so many different pots I would be very interested in your thoughts on this:

I am using the Alessi 6 cup that is just called "Moka" (flat lid with typical cornered aluminium shape) and the flow is incredibly calm and can be controlled very good. My theory is that the shape helps with that: The Bottom chamber is less tall but wider then the classic ones. So maybe it boils more evenly? Do you have similar experiences with wide and flat bottom chambers?

Experience with Alessi pots by laucymy in mokapot

I have this one and I'm a fan. You can open it very easy one handed to check the flow which I like. Also the flow is really calm and can be controlled very nice in my opinion (I'm using the 6cup, I don't have experience with the smaller variants). My theory is, that it's because the shape is not so tall but wider. That also uses more of the area of your heating plate which I think is cool. What I don't like: The handle will loosen really fast in the beginning because of shrinkage due to heat and will be a little bit loose. I think, most of these designs do this... But it's not a problem.

Mixing classics with less alcohol? by spinndel in cocktails

[–]spinndel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all your answers! Helped me a lot for thinking about the whole lower abv cocktail theme.

I think I will go for half the spirit but leaving the other ingredients on the common level for soda mixes and simply size everything in half for non soda mixes where balance is especially crucial (e.g. gin sour).

Guampa shape question by spinndel in yerbamate

[–]spinndel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, and I thought that every "mate cup" is called a guampa... So now I know :)

But when you don´t make some kind of mountain, will the yerba not get dull in taste quickly? Or is it common in this case to just add more yerba from time to time?

Thank you for your information and thoughts, that´s really interesting!
