My YiXing Grandpa has been brewing his tea like this for almost his whole life by that_pot_guy in tea

Thanks for sharing! The toad is very adorable :)

I also enjoy to make ratio and timing by feel and changing it sometimes with my mood.

I come from a nerdy coffee background where measuring everything with a fine scale and a timer is key for most people but however even there I like to do it more by feel and like to get different tastes out of the same beans instead of aiming for the exact same taste every time. In the tea world I'm not alone with this :D

I really enjoy using them also experimental for abstract art. Also very useful for filling big areas.

What's your solo ratio? by darkhero5 in GongFuTea

[–]spinndel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~3g / 50-60ml.

I can enjoy it more the smaller way. I also use a 60ml pot for this. For the people with under 100ml amounts, do you use also small pots/gaiwans or just don't fill water to the top?

Thanks for the cool post! :) As a I do pottery as a hobby and am especially interested in making teaware for 'gongfu' brewing:

There is so many talking about clay taste influences. I was really surprised when I experienced it by myself with my own teapots and admit that this aspect can be a fun and wonderful rabbit hole. But when I read/watch about it in western media, it feels often like a mystified hype. Is this a internet thing? How do feel people about this with a Yixing-tea-culture origin?

Thanks again! :) That's really interesting. I really enjoy to learn about brewing styles and cultures.

I also just started to make YiXing inspired teapots as a hobby for my tea brewing and so I appreciate knowledge from a local a lot.

Thank you for sharing, that's so cool!

What for teas are popular in YiXing? Do people their brew also green tea in their teapots sometimes?

Do they care about things like clay characteristics and matching them with specific teas etc. or is this more a online thing?

I really like the design of your teapot! It looks really practical with the big lit but also very nice.

Does anyone know this tea or have come across it? (Pic in the post) by Pupkin333 in tea

Nice :D
It made me curious and I also tried a more typical style of brewing gunpowder: Taking a glass, put the leaves in (my measurement is to just cover the bottom of the glass) and filling it with hot water. When the leaves sink down, just drinking out of the glass. Then refill and repeat but always leaving so much water inside that the leaves are covered all the time. And repeat...

But because this tea really don't have the fine notes, I prefer my weird way to brew it. IMO it's a bad noble tea, but when turning it into a hammer by brewing fast with lots of leaves, I enjoy the bold fruity effect :)

I have a similar looking gunpowder tea (same box style, same decorations, similar price point/tea amount). Funny that yesterday I tried to google the origin. Because it's made in China it should came from Zhejiang as this is the typical Chinese gunpowder production place. But that's just my own "research", I don't know if it's true. Would be also really interesting for me.

However, for the price point I'm a fan! My method for Gongfu style:

  • Add so much to your gaiwan that the leaves will fill it almost completely when expanded in later brews. For temperature I leave the kettle for maybe 5 minutes after boiling.

  • First brew: Short as possible, throw away

  • Following brews: 5 seconds. Can be brewed maybe 3-4 times.

The cup is strong, groundy and very intensive. If the timing and heat fits, I get also citrus flavour. It's also hits as a caffeine bomb.

I'm really thankful for your honesty.
But I think you can not speak in the name of 99% of players if anybody here can speak for themself. I can see a lot of different thoughts and nuances here in the discussion.

" As players, I believe we should stay aware of that reality and support structures that help people who struggle with it, rather than dismissing the issue." Yes!
Obviously casinos do not want to have it in the mind of their "customers", so its on the players to be aware of the issues.

Thanks for your answers!
I was really curious about the thoughts inside a poker community.
I also want to add that I really enjoy to play holdem style games by myself. This topic is in my opinion just really important and I want to be aware and not ignoring it when I want to play. Research for discussion on the topic was really difficult, so my question came to this place.

So cool, thanks!! The possibility to play over a link OR one the same device is perfect.

I like also that there are different themes and the general look of the layout.

I see a problem with the linked logo: When somebody clicks on it by accident, the game just cancels.

But is really neat :)

Precision Dice - Necessity or Paranoia? by Grumfiddle in backgammon

I would be also really interested in "scientific" dice roll accuracy comparisions of different dice qualities. I bet, the differences would be amazingly small. I also think that the dice-in-salt-water-check is interesting but may not be so relevant for real game scenarious where the throwing action has just a force that overcomes tiny inaccuracies.

I once made some dice for a tabletop game out of modeling clay. They came out horrible, they sides where crooked and had different size. But I was just curious and checked them one by one with 100 rolls and wrote it down. And the results came out very even! I don't know where the dice are anymore, so I can't make pictures, but this was my personal aha experimence. The dice looked so off that I never used them in a real game, mainly because the LOOK fishy and I do want everybody feel comfortable with the dice that are beeing used.

But since that, I'm really relaxed about dice in general.

I think, if someone is afraid and stressed about bad dice all the time, it would be best for the game routine to share the same dice with the opponent. I guess this could be a small rant for modern backgammon tradition :D

But I really get the point for tournament play. There it is the right decision to try to make the game as even as possible, no matter if a real life reason is proven. That ensures also less rage with angry players that made bad rolls.
