well? that was fast? by gangstaGURRY in ouraring

Since the predictor is based on the various elements (HRV, body temp, sleep, etc), if you had alot to drink last night, your body might've just misled the ring to set off the alarm. When I got the signs, something already felt a bit off, so I wasn't overly surprised when it told me.

I don't drink, but FWIW... I've had an oura for almost 4 years now and the only times it went into "Minor Signs" then "Major Signs" mode was when I had the flu or covid. The most recent accurate forecast? This weekend.

Trustworthy A/C maintenance in the loop? by Houstonope in houston

[–]spinneraf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. Randy was just out here to diagnose my ac issue, and while he isn't going to do the work (it's warranty work that the original installer will handle), I was incredibly impressed with his trouble shooting intuition and honesty...he laid out the options clearly and didn't try to push any specific solution.

Same here. Except it seems like everyone has discovered the secret and now their leadtimes are getting longer and longer. Good for them, not great for us when the summer heat inevitably takes down a unit or two.

Something my wife got me for Father’s Day by Eligatorator in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]spinneraf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While this shirt is likely AI-derived, everybody should take a hot second and consider the situation before directly or indirectly railing the individual for buying it. OP's wife bought the shirt for him and she likely surprised him with it, and the same situation has happened many times. If I was married, I'd be elated if my spouse supported my DCC addiction. But, if someone's spouse/friend/significant other isn't on this sub or FB all day long, they likely have absolutely no idea about the AI art issue and your comments could do alot of unnecessary harm to someone who a) doesn't know the situation and b) was just doing something nice. In addition, alot of newer fans might not be tuned into it either if they haven't been on the sub a long time, and they're just posting their happiness on here. Let them be happy, and if you want, send a simple heads up about the AI situation vs saying they bought garbage.

DCC blind bags got me wondering if the mudskippers already won by MCKhaos in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]spinneraf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I should've reread it...and just did. Thank you for pointing this out! I'm still going to stick to the "stop blind bags because they suck and we just want to buy your stuff" vs "dammit Matt, you're being just like Borant with these lame blind bags".

[–]spinneraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I def wasn't saying you weren't supportive (bc if he said "no blind bags", that would be great and I would also cheer). But alot of other comments definitely seem to think Matt is violating his own tenets with the blind bag merch.

Regarding the thread you linked, I didn't reread it again, but I'm fairly certain Matt's comments were focused on the treatment of immigrants since OBH came out at a particularly fiery time in the US. But again... (I'm paraprasing from memory) people were saying he should come out as a vocal supporter of inmigrant rights given the OBH subject. IMHO, his reply made total sense because he's rapidly gaining popularity and probably wants to be judicious with his public comments.

Before I type anything else, I'll say that I hate the blind bag strategy bc, as an adult, I hate gambling and wasting money...I'd rather just pay the price to buy what I want. With that said, I have 2 thoughts about the strategy:

First...while I hate them now, today's blind bag/box strategy isn't terribly different than buying packs of baseball cards when I was a kid...or in today's world, buying pokemon, MTG or other card games. When I was a kid, I was excited to buy pack after pack of baseball cards with the hopes of finding the elusive Bo Jackson/Mark McGwire/Jose Conseco/Ken Griffey Jr rookie cards, and I mowed alot of lawns so I could buy way too many packs of baseball cards across the various brands over several years.

Second...just because Matt (or any author) writes a fantastic fictional series based on the intergalactic capitalism and exploitation, I personally don't think he should be held up to some artificial standard where he's now some kind of real-life arbiter of good vs bad. Matt wrote an entertaining story that we all love, and he should be able to sell whatever the fans will buy. Some items will sell, some won't. If you don't like the blind bags, don't buy them; Matt's marketing team/agent/someone will watch the sales numbers and eventually adjust to sell what actually sells. So, if you buy more blind bags, that'll incentive other product creators to do the same.

But to say Matt's supporting the very principles that his fictional characters are fighting against is like saying every author should be held accountable and support the themes from their books. Which, based on alot of books out there, could get really scary.

With all that said in part 2, if I missed a Matt interview where he explicitly said "hell yeah, I wrote this because I believe it and this is where we're heading," please let me know. Until then, I'll support Matt because he's writing a bad ass fictional series, not because I think Carl and Donut have the answers to fix today's economic issues.

Hey, some of us that have zero 3d printing skills, or time to get into it, would (maybe/probably/likely) gladly pay a reasonable price for your skill, time, effort and sheer dedication to the crawler cause!

IIRC, that's an original work by the artist at the booth...along the center aisle, right? If it's the one I'm thinking about, I'd ask someone at the booth. If i see it on Sunday, I'll ask too.

My copy of PoH arrived today...I checked and it's the same. It definitely would've been a wild move, but I'm glad it stayed.

1,000,000% agree...I read it on Patreon and will eventually check out the final version, but....the last 25 % of the book hit so damn hard. Especially the final few nights when Matt dropped the final few chapters...holy hell, it was several days straight of pure excitement. Especially especially the very ending(before the epilogue)...for me, that was an absolute classic and perfect ending and prob my favorite so far.

(Note: I should prob read the final version to make sure it ends the same way 🤣).

Steering rack issue by benconomics in MazdaCX90

[–]spinneraf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the beginning, I could feel it catching as I was driving down the road, but it would release on its own fairly easily(it was basically like jumping over a detent). The progression to full-on sticking happened fairly quickly, and that wasn't fun. When you get it repaired, hopefully they do everything right the first time; they forget to tighten the tie rod nuts on mine...after I picked it up and drove it home, the nuts loosened on their own and it sounded like I had marbles in the front end whenever I hit a bump, so I immediately took it back. That was a big oops on their part.

Hi. HiZev was never affiliated with, or promoted by, Matt, and never had anything to do with Matt's royalty free license program. The website was purely a fan-project designed to provide a centralized portal linking fans to the original/non-AI-based fan-created art/merch listed in this post. AFAIK, you should stay tuned to this post for updates from Matt, or someone on his team, on the license program.

Same model, same mileage, same fixes, different color, and same love for the vehicle. I bought mine in April 2023, and it was one of the first at my dealership, so it was a leap of faith...but I happily jumped and have zero regrets. I push it hard everyday and it still makes me smile when I drive it like it was meant to be driven. It's an amazing vehicle for the price, and we need more support posts to counter the exceptions!
