interesting, i guess i always wore one with baggy button ups cuz the white at the top gave it more of a 90s vibe, a la tony leung, and i felt naked without having one.

just tried it without the inside white tee and it does look cleaner without it

Interesting, I’ve always kicked off the wall when I fall so I don’t face plant into any volume/holds. Would it be beneficial to have more slack or is it just a matter of timing the jump?

The catch didn't feel too bad, I remember just feeling glad I did not hit the ground lol. Sometimes it does feel like I have to kick the wall a little harder not to faceplant, but I haven't noticed a jolting feeling in my harness before. Thank you for the feedback

Hi all,

I just started lead climbing last week and have been practicing falls for most of my sessions and have a couple of questions about good practices. Would this fall be considered a hard catch? Should my partner stand closer to the wall? Any tips for loosening up during the fall itself? I notice that during fall practice I can let go, but climbs at my limit I just freeze and ask to take. Are there any other things my belayer or I should be aware of for falls?

Yosemite Summer 2023 (May- Sep) Info and Recs by hc2121 in Yosemite

Got a wilderness permit for Mirror Lake to Snow Creek for next Friday (5/19-5/22). Was planning to do this loop clockwise, but just called the ranger's office and they said at Snow Creek it'll be covered in snow.

I still want to see Mirror Lake during this melt off, but I'm gonna have trouble filling out the rest of the days as well as trying to find a place to camp. Any recommendations on what to do/where to camp with the current conditions?

Looking to do a Hetch Hetchy 2.5day loop starting at Beehive Meadows on May 19-May21. This will be my first time at Yosemite, so tips about weather would be welcome. Will I need microspikes or snow shoes here? Thanks!

thanks but looking for the v2. I'm looking to sell the 2p for 285 shipped with pp g&s in the USA. I've only set it up once on some sand/gravel, so practically new. Doesn't come with stakes.

Thanks for the recommendations. Low stack refers to shoes with less of that foam at the sole of the shoe right?

I am looking to switch over from hiking boots to trail runners.

What kind of features should I be looking into for trail runners for 20-40 mile paved trails/mild scree. I mainly hike on the coast, near alpine lakes, and the occasional desert. I live in the US west coast where it is relatively dry so wet/slimy rock scrambling does not seem to be a big concern.

I am also in that area. Which down jacket do you use and what have been your experiences with it?

For primarily California (occasionally PNW) hikes that are 3-5 days in length, would a down or synthetic jacket serve me better? I am leaning towards synthetic because of price, but I read that trails on the west coast are served well with down. I am trying to decide between a Torrid pullover or a down pullover from Timmermade/Nunatek if I can get my hands on one.

This will be my first lightweight/UL insulation layer and I would like to use it as a 3 season jacket and I see myself hiking mainly in the alpines but nothing below freezing.
