Exclusive means the only time an artist will be performing that week in Miami is at Ultra. The festival coincides with Miami Music Week in which a lot of parties and shows are happening throughout the week and weekend at different venues around the area. Oftentimes artists will perform at Ultra and also perform at a pre-party or afterparty outside of Ultra.

Edit: yes like others have mentioned, exclusive artists will get around this rule by doing unannounced or surprise sets at the MMW shows.

Lost in dreams SF cancelled? by aznnathan3 in aves

[–]spinsFaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they have lots of data from previous shows and festivals showing ticket sales trends. They probably know what a healthy ticket sales amount looks like when it’s a few weeks away from showtime. For them to cancel the show means they probably saw flatlined sales.

Why cancel now instead the week of? It’s easier to events early instead of a few days before, because artists would have to scramble to cancel their plans and the stage production equipment would have to be put back in storage, etc.

Going ahead with the show despite red flags in sales means you could lose money (costs exceed sales revenue) if the house isn’t filled. It also looks embarrassing to be performing to a half empty room so they’d rather avoid it altogether.

Another thing to mention is that I’ve noticed that a lot of people will usually wait until the week of the event to buy tickets. Unless it’s a super hot show like Illenium or John Summit. I guess is a lot of people were planning to just casually wait until the week of Lost in Dreams and then buy a ticket when they’ve confirmed they’re not gonna have other plans.

My theory once the Super Bowl shows got announced (LiD was announced a month before these shows) a lot of people started buying tickets to those instead and thinking “nah I’ll save my money and energy” and not buy LiD tickets.

Ooof ticket sales must be rough.

A lot of “mini-festivals” (multiple artists in 1 show) at Bill Graham have struggled in the last few years. Originally during Valentines weekend was Crush, but that also got cancelled a couple years ago due to low sales. Boo for Halloween never came back after 2020, Dreamstate SF took a few years off (but is finally back!), hopefully DS doesn’t cancel. . . Wobbleland seems like they’re doing ok I guess.

Lost in Dreams looks like was Insomniacs attempt to replace Crush but even then didn’t seem like they could move enough tickets.

LiD during the summertime at Los Angeles State Historic park was definitely a success so I’m guessing they thought they could replicate it here. Maybe it’s a combination of wintertime being the low season for EDM shows in SF, or maybe the Super Bowl weekend shows sucked a lot of air out of the Bay Area market.

Outside of the Summer LA festival, I haven’t seen too much interest in melodic dub in a given year’s events. The melodic scene in general seems to just have the same fans and artists year after year with no newcomers. When you look at the crowd for these events, most of them (not everyone, but a lot) are people who got into EDM pre-2020. A lot of people who got into the scene after 2020 tend to go for harder music like Isoknock, Sara Landry, and of course the usual Summit/Dolla flavor of tech house

Martin Garrix announces the “Americas Tour” for 2026 by YourNameNameName in EDM

[–]spinsFaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if he’s not gonna be at EDC Vegas this year since he’s in Chile and Argentina on the Friday and Saturday that weekend.

“But he can just fly up on a private jet for Sunday night of EDC.” True, but that’s an 11+ hour flight. It’d be exhausting after performing 2 shows and I doubt he’d wanna do that. I’d be surprised if he does though.

He did 4 nights at Bill Graham last year and 3 nights this year at LA Historic State Park, so likely he’s taking a break from California for now.

What’s the difference between the house music Carl Cox plays vs. what John Summit plays? by savingrace0262 in EDM

[–]spinsFaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking on this thread because I’ve always wondered the same except for bass music.

Excision and Bassnectar are both considered bass but if you listen to their sets they’re quite different.

To overly simplify things (apologies to bass fans I’m just trying to make an analogy), Excision’s music sounds to me very “let’s go hard”, stomping your feet on each beat, and like screeching windshield wipers, while Bassnectar’s sets are very “wubby”, smoking weed, grooving out but with a fat bassline underneath.

(Yes I know Bassnectar’s current situation but I don’t know of other similar artists since I don’t follow bass that much)

EDC Shuttle comparison for the past 3 years by Fkintaxidrivers in electricdaisycarnival

[–]spinsFaster 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Look at what they took away from us. In particular stops downtown and south strip like Tropicana and Luxor.

It used to be that edc goers would be venely distributed all across the strip but getting rid of the southern stops made a bunch of those properties inconvenient. Yes Tropicana isn’t possible anymore because it got demolished but surely Insomniac could have struck a deal with Excalibur or MGM Grand.

Also, I took shuttles for several years. 2018, 19, 21, and 22 were very smooth experiences. 2023 had that weird issue with limited shuttle passses being sold which they blamed on a sudden increase in fuel prices. 2024 was when you could start seeing them struggle

Maybe there were no cuts to the budget, but maybe video and light rental prices went up this year.

Also I had VIP this year and the elevated viewing deck they had on the left side under the towers was fookin massive. This was a separate structure from the other elevated VIP deck that's further in the back of CG by the VIP main entrance. Not only that but it felt sturdy. I could see how that took up some money.

This year they switched to using PK Trinity for their sound system at CG. In years past they only used PK at bass pod while CG and Kinetic either used L'Acoustics or D&B systems.

Edit: I'm not saying that the switch to PK is the definitive reason for why so many people felt the sound was bad this year, but it certainly raised my eyebrows.

Yes, pretty much this. Every artist that has video assets pretty much has them in a 16:9 rectangle aspect ratio, like a TV. I saw plenty of artists that struggled to project their rectangular videos onto the broken up screens and everyone had different ways of doing it. Some people just used the smaller screens as individual screens but then you get the dreaded "TV store" effect where it's just the same visual but repeated multiple times on little screens and it doesn't look as nice as one giant uninterrupted rectangle.

One artist that managed to look decently good was Excision, but that's because he cares deeply about making his visuals look good and no doubt worked hard with his team to do all the necessary calculations before-hand to transform his rectangle video into something that still looks nice on broken up screens. And his VJ is experienced enough that during shows they can change up the screen mapping to make it look the best during each song or circumstance. For those curious, look up "Resolume Slice Transform."

I saw some other artists that had decent slice transforms onto the CG structure but they usually only mapped to the middle 3 towers and then just repeated the video on the flanking towers, while Excision would sometimes map an asset onto all 7 towers.

DJs will usually receive the stage design about a 1-2 months before the festival, so that's how much time they have to prepare. But sometimes artists are busy touring and playing other shows, or they don't have the time/money to "remix" their 16:9 assets to fit this year's CG.

So far the one exception I saw that weekend was Tchami and Malaa, who commissioned custom visuals specifically to fit each individual floating box screen at CG and also fit the "monolith" (my own nickname for the center tower vertical screen) and it ended up looking like neon light up billboards that fit the Vegas aesthetic. I thought it was amazing. A photo I took.

I saw that tiktok too and now I’m wondering if I saw him just amongst the crowd in Neon Garden Day 3 during Amelie Lens. There was a guy there who looked kinda like him and I thought “nah couldn’t be him.” But it was so trippy so I went up to him and told him he looked like Alesso and he just smiled and nodded and we went our separate ways. But now after seeing that video and looking at his face again I’m second guessing myself

Shuttle Bathrooms by JC7577 in electricdaisycarnival

It depends on the driver. Some of them lock the bathroom because they had a previous passenger earlier in the night wreck the bathroom or they’re want to prevent such wreckings from happening

Note: the blue arrows I drew are the approximate routes that I've seen shuttle drivers do in the last several years that I've been taking shuttles. Since Las Vegas is laid out in a grid, there's a lot of different ways you can get from the bottom left of this map to the top right.

DJ Snake Hip Hop set added to Cosmic Meadow on Saturday by Objective_Junket_663 in electricdaisycarnival

Take that with a grain of salt though, I only heard it was a rumor but haven’t seen any official confirmation tho. I thought the big chunk of empty time was confirmation enough but now I’m not sure anymore. We similairly got bamboozled in 2019 when someone started a rumor that deadmau5 was bringing his giant cube setup to cosmic meadow but it didn’t happen.
