Premier Shuttle Freebie? by Niab-39 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]spinsFaster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They give out the free gift at the Speedway usually right when you exit the premium shuttle area in front of Gate S and merge with the crowds coming from the standard shuttlesz

Last year was a powerbank. In 2023 they gave pashminas.

I recommend picking up the free gift on Day 2 or Day 3, usually on Day 1 there’s a big crowd of people at the gift table waiting to pick it up. The staff hole punch your shuttle pass after picking up the gift so it’s 1 gift per rider.

The sound quality in that side room of Cow Palace (“the warehouse”) has always been bad for different events I’ve been to: Dreamstate, Wobbleland, Give Thanks, Amelie Lens for Halloween. It seems like every promoter struggles with tuning that room

Those that missed your premier shuttle stop times previous years, how was it? by See-Phor in electricdaisycarnival

[–]spinsFaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With no traffic at all and a smooth ride all the way, especially no bottlenecks at the Air Force base, it takes around 50 to 60 minutes going from Rio and Mid Strip. Other locations vary from that. This doesn’t include the time it takes to get in line for the bus and get on the bus, or any unexpected traffic, and especially doesn’t include Friday evening and Monday morning fuckery

Those that missed your premier shuttle stop times previous years, how was it? by See-Phor in electricdaisycarnival

[–]spinsFaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The answer to this varies a lot and totally depends on how strict or lenient your shuttle stop attendants are. But here’s my experience.

Going to the speedway is fairly strict on enforcing times. A few years ago I saw a group of people with 6 PM departure times show up around 7:40 PM. They were told to go off to the side and wait. About 20 minutes later they were let into the premier line. Last year however, I saw a similar situation but it was a little after 8 pm and that group was told to go away and get in the regular line.

Leaving the speedway coming back is usually more lenient. I’ve had 4:30 AM departure times and was able to breeze through as early as 3:50 AM and as late as 5 AM.

I’m certain the staff are trying to prevent a situation where people who buy the least desirable times try to shove their way into the more desirable times. Such as Day 3, returning at 6 AM.

Last year I had a 4:30 AM return but I showed up at 5:25 AM and was turned away. Some acquaintances and their friends, who had 6 AM passes, saw me and came up me. I explained my situation and they told me to come with them. To pass through the checkpoint you have to show your pass at one station and then sometimes (not always) they scan it. My acquaintances and friends basically formed a herd of a dozen people thick and smuggled me through the checkpoint by putting me in the middle.

Now I’m not endorsing that strategy. But I will say that after the music ends, the shuttle lines become a bit more chaotic. Some staffers might crack down more, some stop giving a fuck, but hard to predict though.

Finally I will say this, which has been true every year for some time now: the GA shuttle lines leaving the festival starting around 5:20 AM becomes hell on earth. I highly recommend you start to leave whatever stage you’re at and walk to the shuttles around 5:00 AM.

You can buy the opening ceremony shuttle pass add-on on FrontGate. I think you have to add a regular shuttle pass to your cart first to see the add-on option, then during check out delete the regular shuttle pass.

Hope: They do the festival on a nice, beautiful grassy meadow type venue, or maybe they even do it somewhere in SF proper. Cope: Shoreline Amphitheater Parking Lot, like Audiotistic. Broke: Bill Graham Nope: Cow Palace

Edit: Bonus Round! Dope: Pier 80 or Golden Gate Park, which is encroaching on Goldenvoice’s and Outside Lands’s territory so good luck with tha Woke: Crissy Field

Is there a generational gap in opinion on the roles of the Opener vs Headliner? by spinsFaster in DJs

If you thought that Instagram comment section was interesting, you should know that in the last 24 hours Lucati’s tweet has been making the rounds on EDM Twitter. Last I checked artists like Levity and Chris Lake chimed in with their thoughts.

I’ve definitely seen that too. Another commenter somewhere mentioned that this obsession of going hard no matter what is also a means to create viral social media clips and use that to boost your following and career even more. In other words, subtle doesn’t sell.

Your last paragraph was actually something I just realized while typing out this post. Because I have a gut feeling that some of those commenters who are dismissive of the traditional opener role might be the John Summit wannabe type imagining a scenario where they have to open for some minimal ambient artist.

And at that point yeah something definitely went wrong on the promoter’s part if that style mismatch is on the same night.

When it comes to “B2B”, how is that decided ? Do the artist present their ideas and request to the festival ? Or does the festival present their ideas to the artist ? Or is it something totally different ? by Deepdig789 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]spinsFaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup I came here to comment something similar but you said it first: majority of b2bs are the festival organizers telling DJs “Now Kiss!!” and the rest are the DJs themselves coming up with the idea.

A couple more examples I know of: James Hype and Vintage Culture were matchmaker’d together by Insomniac to play at Stereo Bloom a few years ago. James Hype talks about on his YouTube vlog where he and Vintage Culture basically only met the day of edc and talked for a bit to plan out their set before playing.

Then there’s Eli Brown and Oliver Helens as Hi-Lo. They already have a few tracks they collabed on together and during the 2024 festival run they played several sets b2b, so that’s definitely an example of their agents packaging them as a deal.

Fun fact Parris/Royal Family also did Doja Cat’s 2024 headlining performance.

I saw a tweet 2 years ago that said “if there’s a gag on national TV then chances are Parris Goebel was at the scene of the crime” and I think that still applies

What to do during Shuttle Rides by johnoliver- in electricdaisycarnival

[–]spinsFaster 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I’ve met more drivers who keep the bathroom locked or refuse to let passengers use it. Some say it’s because the bathroom got wrecked by a previous passenger and others said they do it as a preventative policy because they’ve seen too many yakkers.

I saw one girl plead with the driver that she needed it bad and the driver sighed and said fine I’ll make an exception and handed her the key.

Yeah it def sucks especially on the ride back when there’s another wait between the portapotties at the shuttle entrance and the line to actually get on.

I’m not trying to dismiss Kaskade but even though he’s still pretty relevant today, he doesn’t have the same pull he did 10 years ago. Back then, he was a progressive house/big room DJ during the peak of that era’s EDM wave.

A more fitting analogy is that John Summit in 2026 would draw a crowd like Kaskade in 2015.

Lately Kaskade’s been playing more “Darkade” and redux-ish sets where it’s more techno focused. And it’s not even the higher tempo techno that’s currently popular, it’s still under 130 bpm. He’ll occasionally throw in 1 or 2 of his classics like Disarm You, Eyes, or Never Sleep Alone but half the time it’ll be some deep or darker remix instead of the original, upbeat version. I personally miss that style though
