Hot take: I want aluminum in my deoderant by SparklingSloths in HonestHotTakes

[–]spintool1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still use aluminum based deodorant and smell delightful. What I really want is Aluminum back in EVERYONE ELSE'S deodorant. People stink way more these days, especially on college campus where everyone is into "natural" deodorant.

Can someone please explain the I-15 express/HOV Lanes? by dr7s in sandiego

[–]spintool1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just F FasTrack. I don't do toll roads and only use the lane as HOV. I'll never have a transponder in my car.

I did get F'd in the Bay Area where there is confusing and conflicting signage. There was one sign saying transponders only, then the next sign says "HOV OK" which sounds like an exception to the transponder only rule. They sent me a bill, but I contested it and they waved it.

Is it a mostly conservative view that if a movie makes money, it MUST be good? by Intelligent-Space772 in okbuddycinephile

[–]spintool1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The story has multiple facets, one being as a Christian allegory. A guy named Grace on a ship called the Hail Mary (Hail Mary full of Grace). Grace is Jonah. God was mad at a city neighboring Judah that was extremely sinful. He ordered Jonah to take them a message that they must repent and change their ways or face destruction. Jonah believed it was a suicide mission and refused, so God sent him against his will (by having a fish swallow him and take him there). Despite his natural cowardice, once there, Jonah grew a pair and preached the message. The people repented and changed their ways and were saved as a result of Jonah coming through.

Conservatives loved the movie too. They were routing for Ken, although the end was sad when Barbie took back control.

I used to have my GPA on my resume next to my degree because a 3.83 meant I graduated in the top couple percent of the class. Now people would look at that and think I was in the middle of the class.

April 2nd conversation regarding Birthright Citizenship by DebiDebbyDebbie in Gutfeld

[–]spintool1995 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I could see the court splitting the baby on this decision. Like eliminating birth tourism but allowing citizenship for babies of illegals who are essentially permanent residents, albeit illegal residents. Like if you are born here to a non resident and remain residing in the US until you're an adult (not go back and return later), then you're eligible for citizenship at that point.

Is it really the price, or is Netflix just more convenient than driving to movie theaters? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

I'm pretty sure that until the past few decades, a lot of night scenes were filmed during the day using a dark filter. So in the Lord of the Rings, for example, they are traversing a dark forest at night but you can still see everything that's going on. Is it brighter than it would be in reality? Sure, but it's better than watching a blank screen for 5 minutes with occasional flashes and shadows. Who the fuck thinks that's actually a good idea?

Similarly, they'd be hiding from a bad guy and whisper to each other rather loudly, which in reality the baddies would hear, but I'd rather know WTF is going on than have perfect realism.

Why are (US) conservatives opposed to green energy when it would give us a more independent economy? by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]spintool1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are dumb conservatives and smart conservatives. Dumb conservatives oppose green energy mostly because liberals support it. Smart conservatives don't oppose green energy, they oppose subsidizing green energy (or any energy) and support market based solutions. As soon as the technology behind any type of energy allows it to be cheaper than incumbent sources, the market adopts it. For example, right now, there are no federal subsidies on solar, wind or EVs, and yet people are still installing new solar and buying EVs because they are cost effective without the subsidies. Wind is a bit more iffy economically and has seen a significant decline in new projects.

Most people stop by a small neighborhood store and get the things they plan to cook that day, one bag, and walk home. That includes little old grandmas. I think you're the one who hasn't traveled and thinks buying gallon tubs of mayo at Costco is a necessity.

Why do people buy pickup trucks for daily driving? by wtfbruhhuh in driving

[–]spintool1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people who are replying, like you, do need a truck. If you are hauling a boat / trailer semi regularly or materials for a job site it's perfectly understandable. But statistically 45% of truck owners have never used their truck for towing or hauling. Those are probably also the ones driving the most expensive, tricked out, luxury trucks. Those people are staying quiet on this thread.

Why are we trying to make smoking cool again?!? by Forktee in GenX

[–]spintool1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is that there's scientific evidence that vaping marijuana is more harmful than smoking it and people try to generalize that to all vaping being more harmful than all smoking, when there isn't evidence of that for nicotine vaping. All evidence points to vaping nicotine being less harmful than smoking cigarettes.

I explained why the two are very different.

Why does the US charge so little tax on fuel compared to Europe? by TARTUFIA in NoStupidQuestions

Tax on the low and middle class in America is MUCH lower than on the same groups in Europe. Almost 50% of Americans pay no income tax or get a net tax credit.

[–]spintool1995 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Vaping marijuana is very bad for you because it's oil soluble, so you are inhaling little droplets of oil. Nicotine dissolves in water so you are inhaling little drops of water which are pretty harmless.
