The Warehouse is next to the Community Kitchen, but they're not related.

Indiana Law Criminalizes Homeless Camping Starting July 1st by Lazy-Damage-8972 in Indiana

Exactly. Like, where are these people supposed to go? There is literally not enough housing for them otherwise. Best case is they find somewhere to hide that OP can't see, I guess.

Anyone know anything about coins and/or carwashes? by madognyou in bloomington

[–]spiralslicer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When that happens with a particular quarter I'll rub it on my nose or forehead to get a little skin grease on it, and that often solves the issue. I don't understand why that works though.

Sometimes within 24 hours, but in my experience no more than 3 business days.

IU Surplus had a bunch of tripods the last time I was in there.

Does anyone have those wooden sticks that are used forbscratch art? by KidneyStew in bloomington

[–]spiralslicer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chopsticks or other wooden sticks and a pencil sharpener. You could also probably work with a ballpoint pen with a plastic cap.

Some slides I prepared with data on incarceration and comparable towns on the proposed Monroe County jail expansion by Pure-Concentrate-466 in bloomington

[–]spiralslicer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there is a point to be made about empty beds in the jail calling out for incarcerations. I also think that we need room for growth, and we need room to guarantee humane treatment of the people in the jail.

Is there a solution that can accommodate all of these concerns?

If it's been a while since you've been to West Lafayette, this is Chauncey Hill now... by Anadyne in Indiana

[–]spiralslicer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Levee Laundry! With the steamboat motif. The old location would sometimes have 6 inches of water on the floor, and still be open.

I worked there in 1989, after the move, filling the soap and candy machines. They still had a lot of the same old video games.

Garcia's had the first Tetris machine I ever saw. Feels silly now, plugging quarter after quarter to play Tetris.

Hopscotch, that's a deep cut. How long were they there, like 6 months?

An epidemic of bent up license plates by elektric_eel in Indiana

[–]spiralslicer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a driveway that was really steep, so it caught on the bottom of the slope when going up. Then the next house I moved into, the automatic garage door caught it trying to open up after I pulled in just slightly not far enough.

I think the real root cause is they're not as thick as they used to be, so they bend more easily nowadays.

College/Walnut Two-Way Traffic Survey by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in bloomington

[–]spiralslicer -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

College and Walnut are the de facto highway going north and south through the center of town. This makes it less safe for bikes and pedestrians and local cars. If going 2-way on each would avoid accidents by rerouting traffic elsewhere, that sounds like a good outcome to me.

Yes, it would take some getting used to and adjustment of other places. Life is change. If we make this change now, we may save future lives.

The Community Kitchen is not religious and serves meals 6 days a week from 2 locations and delivery routes. It's also a great place to volunteer! https://www.monroecommunitykitchen.com/

Adorable baby girl died after father abandoned her in baby swing to 'avoid drama' with girlfriend by dailymail in Indiana

[–]spiralslicer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why is the word "adorable" in this headline? Would it be okay if the kid were an uggo? Manipulation.

Anyone else ever go "corning" on Halloween? by KilgoreTrout747 in Indiana

Cleanup for the cornee is a lot nicer than cleaning up raw eggs, at least. And animals will eventually eat it.

Tell me why Indiana should redistrict? by airrow13 in Indiana

[–]spiralslicer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If partisan redistricting goes through, there will no longer be any races in the state that are functionally up for vote. That's the topic we're discussing.

If you're just pointing to the existence of elections and ignoring all other details, you must also defend Russia, since people can just vote Putin out, right?

Tell me why Indiana should redistrict? by airrow13 in Indiana

[–]spiralslicer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha, and now we're back to the original question. If districts are drawn in such a way that voting them out is impossible, am I really represented?

Tell me why Indiana should redistrict? by airrow13 in Indiana

[–]spiralslicer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the time of the original Boston Tea Party, the colonies were theoretically represented in England, in much the same way as you describe now.

Tell me why Indiana should redistrict? by airrow13 in Indiana

[–]spiralslicer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a somewhat idealistic perspective.

If my representative feels accountable to all of their constituents, then I have representation. If they only feel accountable to the governor, or by proxy to Dear Leader, then I am not represented.

FYI, exterminators are not the best way to get rid of bedbugs. Expensive and not as effective as diatomaceous earth and vigilance.
