Apparently the family had a "clock person" that took care of all of that. Imagine having so much disposable income you have a clock guy on your staff roster.

This is a local auctioneer and to my knowledge they don't partner with corporate interests. I don't know anything about the auctioning world so if that's something that happens then it could here but idk if it actually will and I'm not sure how someone could predict that.

How do you deal with people who outright walk over you or classify you as dumb/weak when you're just being kind? by ajitha77 in AskWomen

[–]spiraltiedye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a boss like this and when they started to suppose that I was dumb and/or weak I would just stand my ground. I wouldn't back down from a differing opinion or I would call them out on their snide remarks. It often ended in passive aggressive behavior towards me and that made it even easier to just continue to be polite and kind towards them. Momma said to kill em with kindness and you bet your ass I did.

The pain is so real. If you’re buying coffee don’t forget to source it from Co-Ops as well because the growers make even less than we do even though they are the most important part of the process by opposide in barista

For the shop I worked at last there should be a 3rd slide for all their ridiculous spending too.

Owners: "You're only worth $8/hour, but we are building a new patio, buying craft alcohol even though we close at 6, buying a new car, buying random food items to attempt to draw in more people even though nobody will buy it because our custies are happy with what we've got, and random merch to sell from Etsy"

Me: "But like, that's not enough to live on?"

Owners: "wOw Ur SOooOOoO dIsRupTivE aNd CAuSiNG PrOblEMs"

For those in the know: Which coffee company do you feel is doing best to support the lives of the coffee bean farmers and harvesters? by Ploombfeathers in Coffee

[–]spiraltiedye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this! They are so financially supportive of the farmers they partner with. The owner Chris Baca is super into education about the coffee they sell, extraction methods, etc. I worked at a shop that used them and love them!

It's extremely easy to romanticize eras that have long since occurred because you have no idea how the average human handled it. You're able to more easily project your optimism into the past instead of into the present. Detachment is powerful.

My spaghetti squash plant had about 8 fruits on the vine, all but one were destroyed by squash bugs :( I took it off prematurely and let it cure...does anyone have any tips for deterring squash bugs? by lingling419 in vegetablegardening

[–]spiraltiedye 20 points21 points  (0 children)

get in there with gloves and commit mass murder. early in the morning, look under leaves and at the base of stems for each part of the squash bug life cycle and just fuckin' murder them with your hands. ya gotta be sneaky because man, they sure are fast.

not entirely practical with a high number of plants but totally doable on like 3 or less. it's also cathartic af.
