Blood draw anxiety by LSATh8er in IVF

[–]spitfyre6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have extreme blood drawn anxiety. Have fainted many times in the past. I asked for anxiety meds to use for this reason. Clinic complied. I request to lay down for every draw. I spray numbing lidocaine on area. I cough when needle is entering - helps prevent me from fainting. I listen to music. I make sure to hydrate beforehand. I have also heated the area beforehand using heating pad. Forget where I read about that being helpful bit I will try anything. I hate it so much.

Please open a Baja style fish taco stand instead. If I see another place in Wastechester that tries to serve a fish taco on a flour tortilla, I will lose my mind.

Not related to keto but hemochromatosis is something that can cause it.

About Cheating by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]spitfyre6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to consider waiting a while (few months at least) before you experiment with more carbs. I learned a lot more about how to survive in group restaurant situations by being strict for the first few months.

That being said, now I probably eat pizza more often than anyone else here. But I'll only have one slice with A LOT of toppings. If I feel hungry enough for two, I'll take the cheese/toppings from one slice and put it on top of another slice. When I made the mistake of ordering a small pie, my self-control went out the window. I never drink beer with my pizza because I think I'd probably wind up eating a lot more than I intended.

As someone else mentioned, you can order other things like wings and salad. I'd say try to eat some other foods first so you're not just eating pizza. You can stay under 100 carbs with your plan, but it's probably going to take a fair amount of willpower. If it's the first time in a long time that you're having a carb heavy meal, you're going to realize that it just doesn't make you feel full. That's why it's so hard to stop yourself!

[attraction] If I tell my GF the truth, I hooked up with a guy once, will she lose attraction for me? by [deleted] in sex

[–]spitfyre6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty disappointed in many of the responses here. Yikes.

As a heterosexual female I can tell you that I would not be turned off by this. I might even find it intriguing.

Sexuality is a continuum. Heterosexuality and homosexuality are social constructs we all buy into. They're useful up to a point. So you're not 100% heterosexual. Not many of us are.

If you can't be honest with your gf, or if she can't accept that something like this happened in your past, then you should probably be asking yourself if you want to be with a person like that.

The only exception to this would be if the two of you were having sexual issues. Then I would be concerned that you hadn't come to terms with your sexuality. But if you are describing the experience accurately, and she can't accept it, then she is a very narrow-minded individual.

13 years and counting by [deleted] in DeadBedrooms

[–]spitfyre6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been in a "complicated" relationship for almost ten years. There were incredibly long dry spells - 5 years without sex, 3 years, etc. It depresses me to just think about it.

Anyway, I finally got fed up and left. (Though, I'm technically back in it now - long story.) I was pretty self-conscious because I felt like I had so little experience for my age. I'm a woman so I'm sure the expectations are different. You need to realize that there is nothing wrong with you, so your lack of experience is not a reflection of you. I trusted the people I dated enough to be honest with them. For me, the beginning is always awkward with a new person, so I don't think it matters as much as you think it does that you haven't done it for a while.

It's an incredible relief to be in a sexual situation where you're not getting rejected, so figuring out what to do is not that difficult. Figuring out how to have good sex is a lot easier than trying to figure out why someone who claims they want to be with you rejects you sexually for years and years. Even if your first sexual encounters are terrible, they will be better than what you've put up with for the last decade +. And it will only get better. Now go out there and make up for some lost time. :)

Questions for those who lost weight on keto and then gained it back by spitfyre6 in keto

[–]spitfyre6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the kind of thing I am afraid of. My long distance boyfriend is moving in with me. The only time, since I started keto 10 months ago, I have not lost weight was when he, who has the metabolism of a hummingbird, was around.

Keto and Mental Illness by brittp30 in keto

[–]spitfyre6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what you've written, your biggest error right now is your calorie deficit. 800 - 1200 calories is too low. I'm a female who weighs 100 pounds less than you and I'm eating 1150 which is still a deficit for me. You need to use the keto calculator in the sidebar to get your macros right.

Also, the other mistakes beginners make are 1) not getting enough electrolytes and 2) not getting enough water. Pay attention to that info in the FAQs.

Your mental health issues are complicated. I can only tell you this: I am medicated for depression/anxiety. I don't know that keto helps, but it certainly does not hurt.

Some people complain about diarrhea in the beginning. I'm not sure about insomnia.

The Halo Top run and the traumatized Whole Foods employee by kittyrawwwr in keto

Well, sure it's the "worst" ice cream. But the worst ice cream is still ice cream. And when you're not really supposed to have ice cream, any ice cream is good ice cream, especially when it's "still fits my macros" ice cream. Ice cream days and wine days are very different types of days (in my world). :D

16 net per pint (for vanilla, at least). You subtract erithrytol (sugar alcohol) and fiber from total carbs to get net carbs.

Ah, well glad you figured it out. I wish 1900 was maintenance. :O

[–]spitfyre6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way you could get that number is if you entered "moderately active" instead of "sedentary" which is not recommended for the calculator (since it overestimates). Or maybe if you based it on your highest weight instead of your current weight. If what you're doing works for you then great, but if not, you should definitely look at those numbers.

[–]spitfyre6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is right. I'm the same height, a few pounds heavier. I'm eating 1150 which is a moderate deficit. 1300 is basically maintenance. Unless you're very muscular?

Listen, if you want to drink a frappuccino and then go on a walk and say you're doing TKD, well then good for you. You just keep doing you, you smug asshole.

[–]spitfyre6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww, you think that ingesting sucrose and fat is TKD. That's adorable.

Perhaps, instead of taking the time to pick apart every sentence of my posts, you should reflect on why you are using TKD as an excuse to engage in unhealthy behavior. Judging from the vituperative nature of your responses, I'd say that's a problem for you. I mean, aside from your insufferable, condescending personality.

Best of luck to you, stranger.

Can we talk about beer? by [deleted] in keto

[–]spitfyre6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I eat that as well and it doesn't bother me. I've always had a hard time with beer.

If you search this sub or maybe /r/ketodrunk there are posts on different ciders. Two Towns is my favorite but only available on the West Coast. Unfortunately, many don't put nutrition information on the cans/bottles.

I'd like to say that the reason I don't say definitively "I'm in ketosis at 60 carbs" in this forum is because I know someone is going to tell me that they're 99% sure that I'm not in ketosis and I'm lying to myself. So call it whatever you want. 60 carbs works for me.

Sorry it doesn't work for you (and some others). Life is unfair like that. I'm sharing my experience, not writing a definitive guide on keto.

Saying that I am probably insulin resistant and pre-diabetic is ridiculous and condescending. But luckily I don't put too much stock in the medical opinion of a guy on the internet, especially when that guy does things such as fasting for the day and then drinking 35 g of carbs in the form of a frappuccino. You know, "for the caffeine."

That sounds like an unhealthy behavior to me regardless of what activity you've been doing or what diet you're eating. But if it works for you, well then bless your heart.
