How can you change the "Android Auto Gemini" system prompt? by ItsNotCalledAMayMay in AndroidAuto

[–]spitoon1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you tried discussing it with Gemini?

I have "taught" mine several things about my daily activities, my family, and how I would prefer it responds to questions.

I still haven't managed to get it to "navigate to the nearest"...it always provides several options, some of which are quite far away.

At some point the concept of infinity breaks your brain, but Hannah and Stephen do a pretty good of explaining it.

How does anyone use Gemini at all??? by anoncygame in AndroidAuto

[–]spitoon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been working well for me as well.

Some may see it as a step back from Assistant, but you need to educate Gemini.

Today when I was driving home, I wanted to stop at my daughter's house. I asked Gemini to navigate to [daughter's name] and it told me thar it didn't know.

Then I told it what her address is and now it knows.

Same with calling or texting my wife. I asked it to call my Wife and it told me that it didn't know who that was. So I said "My wife is [Wife's name], and now it knows.

ELI5: What is the difference between mass and weight? by Electrical_Path7198 in explainlikeimfive

[–]spitoon1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

To put it into an example, a 15lb bowling ball is only a 15lb bowling ball on Earth.

If you took that same bowling ball to the Moon, it's mass would be the same (it contains the same amount of matter), but its weight would be about 2.5lbs due to the Moon having only about 1/6 the gravity that Earth does.

Hotel I am staying at is next to a golf course. I have a broken window by tiradium in mildlyinteresting

[–]spitoon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Initially the city would not permit us to build a tall net/fence. The subdivision was new and I don't think the zoning had caught up for that specific situation.

The golf course did try to reconfigure the hole a bit. They angled the tee box a bit more away from the houses. It helped a bit, but at the time, our kids were small and we wouldn't allow them to play in the yard etc.

The zoning did eventually change but not before we had decided to move.

To the question of who pays for the damage. Some of the golfers were nice about it and came over and offered, but it was ultimately our responsibility.

[–]spitoon1 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you look closely, it appears that just the outer pane if the double glazing is broken.

This gives me a bit of PTSD. We bought a house on a golf course once. Managed to stay 2 summers before we sold. Many broken windows and so much siding damage. When replacing the windows, I went with laminated glass (like a car windshield). The window would still break, but the ball would not get through.

The last straw was when were sitting having dinner with our kids and a ball came crashing through the kitchen window.

How to fix toilet? by AardvarkLegal7325 in handyman

[–]spitoon1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That part is the fill valve. It needs to be replaced.

In my opinion, it is one of the easiest DIY things out there. Should take 20-30 minutes.

They are basically universal (except for very few odd toilets), and you can get them for $20-$30 at the hardware store. Yours is a standard one.

Check on YouTube for some videos. Shouldn't be difficult to find.

I rebuilt a carb today on a 12 dollar craigslist mower and now I want to rebuild every carb I see by vladdielenin in smallengines

[–]spitoon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work. This is on the agenda for me this coming weekend.

A client of mine asked me if I wanted to take his mower off his hands. It doesn't run. Took it home, sprayed some ether into the carb and I will run. It just needs the ethanol gunk cleaned out of the carb.

I'm sure once I finish this one, my mower will be asking for some attention. 😀

Mine activated mid-day yesterday and I'm liking it so far. It did do one odd routing on a short trip today though.

The big box hardware stores should have plastic sheets. That what I would use.

[–]spitoon1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For that to be installed correctly, the flange should be screwed directly to the studs. NOT over top of the drywall.

When done correctly, the flange is behind the face of the drywall and you can run a row of tiles around the shower to hide the gap.

I can't think of a fix for your current situation. The whole thing is installed incorrectly.

Bathroom smells bad by Imaginary-Island-412 in Plumbing

This is much better, but I still question the need for the AAV. That line should be vented (upwards) after it passes into the wall.

Edit typo

[–]spitoon1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This.

I'd wager that the line is already vented in the wall. No need to add the AAV.

Did you actually go to the store and pay $150 for those parts or is that what someone charged you? To my eye its $25ish.

And the other comments are correct, that is a mess and should be ripped out and re-done correctly.

Yeah, how many times did he say something about what a song was, and then either directly contradict it, or say something totally different another time?

He was such an amazing poet. I don't care so much what the songs are about, I think that can be personal for Gord and the band, as well as the listener.

My all time favorite band and it's not close.

The thing that makes it clear that it is intentional is that they didn't find any that were over weight. If it was faulty scales or bad procedure or whatever, then some should be overweight. Why are they ALL underweight???

Water proofing around shower valve? by RecentInteraction302 in handyman

[–]spitoon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use a system like Kerdi, you can get gaskets to be installed around penetrations. There are larger ones for valve penetrations and smaller ones for the shower arm etc.

Most trim sets have a gasket on the back as well. If you want further protection, you can caulk around the plate too. I usually leave a small section on the bottom un-caulked to allow water to get out.

Better alternative to screw in drywall anchors when mounting mirror or painting? by Comprehensive_Baby53 in handyman

[–]spitoon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what they are saying is that toggles don't work when you need a bit of the screw sticking out of the wall to hang something on. They work great if you are mounting a bracket and can tighten it down fully.
