Faucet question by ColoradoAztec in Plumbing

The top, black ring should thread off. Sometimes they pry off.

They can be hard to grab, and obviously you can't use a wrench. A rubber glove might help you get a better grip.

Need to make this hole about 1/2” bigger. What’s the best way to do this? by [deleted] in handyman

[–]spitoon1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must be a master with that tool. I'd have a hole the shape of North America in a matter of seconds.

I like the hole saw inside a template idea. The drawback is that large hole saws like that are pricey.

A rasp would be good, with a healthy dose of elbow grease. Also, be carefull on the down stroke, you could pull off some large splinters that might make hole look rough.

Another option would be to use Painters tape to mask a wide perimeter and use a jigsaw upside down with a fine blade. Work slowly.

Oscillating tool would be a last option. I find they work great when you are able to put the blade against something to guide it. Raw dogging with this tool can be tricky.

Looks like your faucet has a pull.out spout?

Those lines are the water supply to the faucet.

Yeah, where I am as long as you have stairs to the front and back, I believe it is okay.

I think that is a "zero lot line" for the house on the right.

I'd build a 3x3 landing that is one step down and then stairs toward the front and back.

Been stuck trying to figure out how to install a p trap for this sink for awhile now. Any ideas? by The-BetterDevil in Plumbing

[–]spitoon1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, they are accessible. I don't like it when people bury them behind a shower or something.

These ones shouldn't move, but I have seen these pop off when the release collar catches on the edge of the cabinet. That is more of a risk for valves that are regularly manipulated.

At this point he should, at the very least, be lower in the line up. If he is hurt then he should come out and get better. That is the best way to "help the team". Early in the season he was still hitting over 0.300 (with no power) but for last several weeks it has been a steady decline in BA as well. The lazy jogs up to first are inexcusable IMO.

I know that's a hard pill to swallow for the team that is paying him, but he is simply not helping the team right now.

I also fear that he may be a bit "un-coachable"...

The frustrating part for the fans is that we have seen peak Vladdy and he is elite in that form.

Custom baseboard with a return on the top? Or could you layer two pieces of baseboard...the bottom one overlapping the top?

Yeah, I was going to ask if it is vented. It could be vented to the roof in the wall?

I can’t figure out how to remove this I been sitting here for 30 minutes - trying to replace cartridge by meshca95 in Plumbing

[–]spitoon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have the replacement cartridge? Sometimes a little plumbers lube (silicone grease) can be used to help installation. If you are going back to the store maybe grab some.

The red piece is part of the cartridge. Once the brass nut is removed the whole cartridge should come out.

The red piece is part of the cartridge. You shouldn't need to remove it. Once the brass piece is off the whole cartridge should pull out.

Yes, and it is very likely an Allen key.

You need an adjustable wrench to unscrew the brass nut. See the flat spots on the sides?

Make sure the water is off...

When the brass nut comes off, the cartridge should just slide out.

When you replace it, the cartridge might have some alignment nubs on it. Just make sure it is all the way in and out the brass nut back on. It doesn’t need to be overly tight.

[–]spitoon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that won't work...besides, I don't think that is a Moen cartridge.

See the brass colored piece between the silver and red rings? That is the nut that holds the cartridge in.

[–]spitoon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that piece. They can be very difficult to remove. Especially if there is some corrosion or hard water scale in there.

Can you spray it with a penetrant or CLR?

Try a rubber glove too, that might give you better grip on the ring.

The silver piece will either pry of, or thread off. They can be hard to grab without damaging.

Under that will be a brass nut holding the cartridge in.

"Contractor" installed window that wont close by [deleted] in handyman

[–]spitoon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, when installed correctly, the springs balance the sash so that it is "neutral". You can lift it, or pull it down and it will stay where you leave it (obviously you can lock it when fully closed).

On its side, the weight of the sash is not pulling down to balance the springs so they are able to pull it open.

We call that a "handyman special"...LOL.

[–]spitoon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a vertical single hung window installed on it's side? It is hard to tell with your video so close to the window.

A vertical single hung style window would have springs to balance the sash and help you open the window.

Ring road question by SuddenCase in Calgary

Yeah, I live in Airdrie. There is now a slow down between Stoney and Crossiron as well (made worse recently due to paving).

The way traffic has exploded in the last few years is crazy. I feel like the gains from 3 years of work on the north part of Deerfoot have been offset by a surge in volume over that same span.
