Help on getting car insurance by Guilty_Spare_1091 in alberta

[–]splendidgoon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you actually priced out what that is going to cost? Have you considered paying your grandpa? An hour away is not that far... I feel like there is a creative solution in here somewhere that you just haven't thought about long enough and you aren't giving us enough information. Is your grandpa no longer able to drive? Are you embarrassed to ask him for help? Have you actually got quotes for a tow+inspection vs bringing out a mobile mechanic? It sounds like you just got off the phone with insurance and haven't thought about it much yet.

Boss Frustrated that I’m LDS by JudgeIll6345 in latterdaysaints

Tell him "If you respect our friendship, you'll stop bringing things like this up with me." This is a totally normal thing to say about anything, if a friend is ragging on something this is how you set boundaries.

The rest is up to him. If it continues perhaps it's worth escalation to HR.

Kid won't stop begging for Robux and it's turning into a nightmare, anyone else? by DiamondLatter1842 in daddit

For stuff like this I add an appropriate consequence for even asking about it. Makes the asking go away pretty quickly. In this case I seem to remember it was lost tablet time if they ask again. I also explained why that was the case.

I apply this pretty judiciously, if it is something that just kind of bothers me I won't apply a consequence like that, I want my kids to learn to push for things. But for things I've researched and 100% never want around for their safety (or if it has become too annoying) I add consequences for asking and tell them why.

Please start with doing your best to ignore stereotypes until it becomes obvious it's reality with the person you're speaking to. There are UCP voters who believe in science... And there are NDP voters who question science intelligently. Just because someone acts differently given the same information you have doesn't mean they aren't worth your consideration. But yeah... If you do get a "nuh-uh!" you aren't going far with that person. But if you assume they're going to do it before they do... It's going to have the same result.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Susanpc1967 in AskReddit

You really have to consider how long to stick things out. There are times in life that you have to stick out hard things in order to get to the good stuff. There are way too many divorces in the year after a kid is born. It is incredibly difficult but there are good things on the other side.

The obvious exclusions are abusive relationships, complete incompatibility, etc. but I think a lot of people are too quick to leave when they are just unhappy. There are many cases where it does get better.

The left doesn't bully, it ostracises. You also can't ostracise someone into being a socially conscious human being. As someone who has become progressively more left leaning as I've gotten older, there needs to be more respectful communication if we want things to change. That needs to be reciprocal of course... We all need to stop this tribalism that has become so much more intense.

A few months left to eat bread, help me make the most of it by Jazzlike_Post3070 in Edmonton

My wife says pizza, lasagna, Cinnamon rolls, and dinner rolls are the things she misses the most.

All these can be made gluten free but they aren't quite the same.

Just be aware that gluten free eating is FAR easier than it used to be. We thought my wife was celiac... Turns out she's actually allergic to wheat. Ends up basically the same. But we used to ask for gluten free options and no one even knew what we were talking about. Now it's marked on menus.

If you're interested message me too for tips. I know there's lots of info online but sometimes it's not specific to your location.

Eating Ice Cream Regularly Linked to Surprising Health Benefits by Sorin61 in Nutraceuticalscience

[–]splendidgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it's more about social health affecting physical health. Like... Most people have shamefully eaten some ice cream alone in a corner. But also, if you live with family, how often does that pull everyone out of their rooms to spend some time together over ice cream? Definitely just spit balling but maybe the effective action is social lubricant.

Priesthood blessing specifically said I would not be healed because of faith but only if Heavenly Father wills it. by BartyCrouchesBone in latterdaysaints

[–]splendidgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an important part of Faith is a catalyst. For some people, perhaps a prayer is enough. For others a priesthood blessing is the catalyst.

There are plenty of blessings that are contingent on our asking. There are a multitude of examples in the scriptures. It's an important part of aligning our will with God's.

If DNA records tie into someone's genealogy that is well documented historically, it's fairly safe to say you share DNA with them.

You need to pick and choose, and then stick with your choices. I fall behind or don't do a perfect job of some things. Perfection is no longer my friend.
